Could the Axis have won WWII?
What do you think? Personally I think militarily the axis had no chance in with the historical alliances, but I think if the Axis could have taken different diplomatic steps I think it could have been possible.

I can't fathom how one would measure reliability without taking into account someone's fondness for quitting and missing turn. What makes a player reliable then?

don't argue with jamiet. he will juat take his ball home and leave.
How about you read the posts up above then come back down and discuss the ideas. Or you can continue to be a dickhead and talk out your ass

Anyway if you CD at the point of elimination, it does effect the length of the game, because if you "ready" your final disband quickly you can help the game progress. It's a courtesy you owe the other players.

My ass is usually better at talking anyway. Seriously though the number one thing I want from opponents is reliability. If your internet is spotty it is helpful to know beforehand that you are going to be frustrating to play with. If you are an early quitter I'd like be be able to avoid that annoyance too

jamiet just loves to wag his finger, doesn't he. wag, wag, wag!
Jamiet, if you play live games you'd know that rarely do turns go less than 5 minutes, especially in late games
And, again, if you read shirk I suggest that if someone had internet problems two years ago that hardly should effect reliability today.
ishirkmywork (1401 D)

i suppose any wins you had two years ago should be erased as well

RR will always frustrate those with less than desirable RR. That said, there might be something to be said for weighing live games less than longer games or possibly having a separate number (though that might make things less clear).

Possibly, weighing shorter time span games less than long ones. Not to help those with low RR. Simply to make RR more informative. I agree that missing an occasional turn in a live game, or even over sleeping in a 12 hour game, does not show the same level of distain as CDing.

Regardless, having the current system of RR is so much better than nothing.

This conversation pops up every couple months. Nothing ever happens because of it. I'm going to be stuck consistently around 85% RR because I have 14 CD's on my record. 12 of those were before 2011, the other 2 were both lives games that happened in the last year, but no matter how many moves I don't miss, or games I finish, my RR won't go above 86%. It shouldn't take me over 6 months to gain 1% back without missing any turns, but there's not much point continuing to beat the horse that's been dead for so long. It's just how the system is, and I've adjusted around it and find some good games with great players that are willing to bump down and play someone with 85%. Just have to know where to look I guess.

(Without getting too deep into this and just addressing one specific point)

"Or you HAVE been eliminated and you'd like to save 15 minutes of your life that means nothing to a particular game... "

@SantaKrellin:
Yes, you're saving 15 minutes of your life... but wasting 15 minutes of the other players' lives while they watch you use the whole clock when you could easily just ready up. The choice is up to you. Which you rather have: 15 minutes of your life, or a few more RR points? Life is full of choices, each of which has an opportunity cost. You can choose to be a dick to the remaining players by leaving when you've lost, and in return the site will be a dick to you and perhaps keep you out of some games in the future. If you make this choice often, your RR will drop and you will feel the site becoming more proactive in protecting more reliable players from having to play with you. I don't see a problem with this.
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=187880#gamePanel

This is what a quitter looks like

As I have said, if you think that all five minutes isn't used, you obviously don't play live games
yomammaxxl (266 D)
02 Jan 17 UTC
All five minutes are regularly used for diplomacy phases, but often are not used for retreat and build phases (the phases comprising 2/3 of your 15 minutes). In my experience, these phases a normally only dragged out by players who have lost. I'd imagine that many players like to avoid these delays, and therefore like to avoid players who make that choice. RR might be helpful for such players, and if you feel yours is lower than you would like it to be, the system seems to be working at least somewhat correctly.
I think your experience is not the norm, and if it was why doesn't RR note the players who never hit "Ready" at all, How much more do they delay those games? I just played a game with two units for two hours, I eeked out a draw, I impacted the game sufficiently that my decision to stick with it helped put together a great, fun game for all. What is my RR right now? The exact same percentage it was before. Why? Because I CDd a lot when my internet would periodically go down a number of years ago.

But should LIVE games count the same towards RR as those with longer turn durations? Any one of us could suffer an interruption to a live game that would go unnoticed if the turn length were even a few hours longer.

If you can't commit to a live game, than don't play it. Even if it's a live game your still ruining other players' games.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

Santa while I don't agree with your choices regarding leaving live games I do agree that the system does quite unfairly weigh the CDs and NMRs. I started playing back in 2014. Most of my CDs and NMRs happened around that time. That's not to say I don't get pissy and CD now or NMR because life. But I am positive if the RR were weighted with the past being worth less than the present than I would have a significantly high RR. I think my RR and likely that if many players is inaccuarate and unrepresentative of their actual play traits.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

So I've played a LOT of live games, probably more than anyone else who has posted in this thread. The issue IMO with the RR system is that in the past, we didn't have it, so in live games, it did pretty much become custom for a lot of players, when they were eliminated, to just leave.

Hitting ready every day or two for a regular game to make sure you did your due diligence isn't a big deal. Hitting ready every 5-10 minutes for a live game for the next hour while you wait your eventual defeat is.

So you leave. You have two scattered SCs, what's the big deal?

Except then they implemented RR, so now it hurts you. And they don't go away.

I have 54 CDs. Two of these happened a year or so ago at the beginning of 2016. One happened in 2015. All others are from 2014 or before, with a much higher weight toward like 2011/2012 when I had spotty internet in college.

Almost all of my NMRs happened in one of three games: the live World Dip game that was a mess for everyone involved, a SRG that is unranked, and a live game I played around Christmas that I forgot about immediately after joining.

Yet my RR is 88%. It has been since RR was implemented.

There seems to be no way to improve RR, and it especially hits live game players and those who have been here for a long time.

We need some sort of forgiveness for old games or weighting to not count live games as much.
Deeply_Dippy (458 D)
03 Jan 17 UTC
Seems fairly straight-forward to me. Either exclude Live games from RR or disregard them (good or bad) after a set period.
