Gun control
Webdip has changed so much, back in the day after a mass shooting we'd have a thread within a minute, argue for days and then nothing would get done. Now we just leap straight to doing nothing. I miss the old times.

Lol. I'd buy "we need them in case of a zombie breakout" over combating government oppression. Your gun isn't going to work against tanks and planes, sorry.

@ Demonoverlord

" Sure, you can kill people without guns... But can you kill 50 people within minutes without guns? No."

The 2004 bombings in Madrid, 2005 bombings in New Delhi, 2003 bombings in Istanbul, 2005 bombings in London, 9/11 in New York, the various aeroplane incidents of recent years, and the many bombings in Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan suggest otherwise.

How many failed bombing attacks have their been? Countless. Bombs are not as reliable as guns.

I abhor violence in all forms but this debate has already become about muslim extremists in the republican media.

The manner in which this guy took 50 lives is being whitewashed with bigotry and anti gay hatred. Meanwhile you got Texas republicans calling the shooting a reap-what-you sow backlash against gay people. Its essentially becoming a sad grasp at straws lesson in consrrvative confusion over what to be a bigot about since they obviously cant outright condemn guns.

How many gun attacks on this scale have there been? Very few. A bomb attack requires one action. A gun attack requires the attacker to make each murder a separate event. Even the most twisted souls struggle to do that. This chap, the Scandinavian Nazi... I can't think of any others off hand who have stomached killing on this scale.

"Hardly, the protests which preceded the occupation of Boston in the late 1760s were riots (you know, the context of the 2nd Amendment). These were protests."

The "riot" that preceded the Boston Massacre were far less violent and destructive than the ones that are touted as normal protest by liberals nowadays.

"Your tough talking isn't fooling anybody. Who claim you're against government "tyranny" but use the rhetoric of authoritarianism in calling any protest a "riot" in order to suppress it."

A riot is a riot. The rioters weren't even against the government. They were just making use of the chaos to vent by destroying cars and such.

"At what point would you consider it a gun-owner's constitutional duty to murder President Obama?"

Not necessarily Obama but whenever the government openly flaunts the constitution. Tell me, do you think that was not the original intent of the second amendment?

"Lol. I'd buy "we need them in case of a zombie breakout" over combating government oppression. Your gun isn't going to work against tanks and planes, sorry."

Guerrilla warfare worked well enough in other parts of the world, and they didn't even have such widespread access to guns.

Durga (3609 D)

@Octavious waaay harder to make/have access to bombs than a gun. There's way more gun violence than bombings. It is also easier to stop because it requires a lot more planning. And as Putin said, they're also more likely to fail.

The movie theater shooting? sandy hook? the dozen and a half school shootings? the 20 dozen mall shootings? VA tech? Octavious have you ever actually watched the news? Its a bi monthly thing in the US to have a shooting with over 20-30 fatalities bro.

Bombs are bad, so are guns. No one is denying that bombs cause deaths and this is horrible. The point is we should try and lower as many causalities as possible. Bombs are already illegal. Time for guns to join them.
Putin33 (111 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
The automatic nature of the weapon used belies the notion that each killing was a "separate event".There have been countless mass killings with guns in the past 8 years. It long ago ceased being a novel event.
Putin33 (111 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
"And you have brainbomb already turning the tragedy into a platform for an anti-Republican rant..."

It is frustrating when this continues to happen and we continue to have these teary eyed memorials and yet nothing can be done because the gun lobby controls the Republican Party. There are those who simply want people to memorialize, be sad for a day, and go on ignoring the problem of gun violence.

You're just brainwashed by the liberal media to ignore the glaring truth and take in the "popular" opinion. Can you say that any of what you just quoted is false? The shooter's father said that his son hated gays. Had this not been a Muslim, everyone would have been talking about the homophobic South, gay rights to live apart from fear, and such. And yes, liberals have indeed reaped what they sowed. They allowed Muslims in full well knowing that they hate gays and tend towards violence.

Octavious (2701 D)

" Octavious have you ever actually watched the news? Its a bi monthly thing in the US to have a shooting with over 20-30 fatalities bro."

A blatant lie. Why don't you list all the shootings with over 20-30 fatalities over the last five years? Bi-monthly, so there will be at least 100. You may copy paste for ease.
brainbomb (290 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
So you think that since they were gay they deserved to die? The Texas pastor I was referring too said this was Gods way of "reap what you sow".

What are you responding to leon? agreeing with the shooter for killing gay people or agreeing with the conservative media that the killer was an evil muslim?
Putin33 (111 D)

Nonsense. They ransacked customs officials and other government official homes. They tar and feathered people. They forced magistrates to seek safety at the local military fortress or travel under police protection.

It's hilarious that libertarians nowadays worship at the alter of 18th century mob violence.

More gross misrepresentation of statistics from brainbomb. Mass shootings do occur bimonthly, but they're defined as having 4 or more deaths, not 20-30. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Liberals wouldn't exist if they told the truth.

"It is frustrating when this continues to happen and we continue to have these teary eyed memorials and yet nothing can be done"

I agree absolutely. We can all clearly see that Muslims are over-represented among mass shooters, yet nothing is being done about it. We must elect Trump, who will stop with this politically correct, afraid-to-offend, open borders BS.

The latter.

"Nonsense. They ransacked customs officials and other government official homes. They tar and feathered people. They forced magistrates to seek safety at the local military fortress or travel under police protection."

Tars and feathers were not present when the protesters were shot. I also believe that tarring and feathering was an abhorrent practice.

"This time it happened to be a "fundamentalist extremists" but that is NOT the real problem. The real problem is that you must change your gun legislation and tell the NRA to f--k off!"

This time? And the time before that? And the time before that? Most of the large-scale mass shootings in recent months and years have been caused by Muslims. Here's something for you. http://www.vashtie.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/elephant-in-the-room.jpg

Tarring and feathering routinely occurred in the 1760s, which is what I was talking about. It's rather tedious to have a conversation with you.

Glad to admit it was an abhorrent practice. Now we can move on to acknowledge that what the American "patriot" mobs did back then was far worse than anything any protest has ever done since.

True, but not every religion normalizes violence against them.

"Not even close. I enjoy how you're all about the truth until it inconveniently gets in the way of your anti-Muslim animus."

Though this site tries to paint a liberal narrative, it's data still shows that jihadists cause 1/3 of mass shooting casualties.. They obviously don't make up 1/3 of the population. http://econbrowser.com/archives/2015/12/mass-shooting-casualties-by-religion-of-perpetrator-muslim-vs-non-muslim

Tarring and feather were indeed widespread before the massacre, but those particular protesters were only taunting the soldiers when they were shot. I also don't believe that the British government was particularly oppressive at the time, and I think the US would have been better off going the Canada route.

NEW ENGLAND PLAYER WANTED FOR WWI TEAM GAME!
England has gone into civil disorder so we need a new English player. This is a team game where the allies (Britain, France and Russia) fight the axis (Germany, Austria and Turkey).. England has missed a couple of phases but is still in a good position. The game ID is 179879. It is called "World War One team game". The password for the game is "shellshock". Once you have joined have a look at the other thread on the forum called "WWI team game" to get familiar with the rules.

New World War I team game - played as 2 teams. Starting soon!
I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I'm not sure if it's been done before. Apologies if it's already been done. I've created a game called "WWI team game" and the idea is that we will recreate world war one by playing the game as 2 teams; the triple alliance consisting of Austria, Germany and turkey and the triple entente consisting of England, France and Russia.
