Evolution
You must integrate with Aliens and create a new hybrid. You gain knowledge of how to speak to them and develop mind control. You are weak vs Militaristic factions. You win by Transcendental Evolution. And effectively create a master race of intellectuals.

Scientific
You win by inventing and researching. If you build 3 Scientific Wonders you win. You must research beyond Tier 3 Science. You suffer weaknesses vs. Reclaimers and Evolution. You are also susceptible to data breach.

Commerce
You win by becoming the most powerful Economy and building 2 Space Stations. You suffer weaknesses vs Militaristic and Religious groups. You gain boosts to credits early and can bribe enemies more effectively.
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
Reclaimers
Reclaimers win by converting 6 dead planets into livable places using Terraform. Reclaimers are weak against Religious and Commercial nations. You start with a Recycler on the ship which converts space junk into food, credits, or fuel.

Religious
You are excellent at keeping your people alive. You can cure diseases you encounter and gain bonuses if you face aliens. You win by converting 3 Factions to your faith. But beware some lifeforms already hold deeply held religious beliefs.

Military
You must conquer 3 Factions. You gain significant bonuses to battles. You also start with a free military Technology. Factions following Science fear you and some Aliens will Auto attack you.

Good luck.

I think a nuke would depressurize the cafeteria, right?
LeonWalras (865 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC

Should probably have the replicators work up another couple of cafeteria nukes. One may not be enough to fully depresurize.
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
**the computer crackles and sparks fly.**

The Replicators could make a Nuke, but *__/==##/= ERROR takes Uranium and Missles to Deliver payload. A Nuclear Detonation within the cafeteria would \#"%##### ERROR. Ship would be destroyed. A nuke can be replicated as a Primary Slot only if resources permit.

Are the space suits heat resistant?
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
To a reasonable level. A suit can withstand extremes of 250 Farenheit or 112.111 Celcius. Also more relevant is the ability to withstand -250 Farenheit (Typical temperatures in cold space)
Floodgates (2004 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
So there is currently a fire raging in a cafeteria and we need to find a way to put it out?

Does the cafeteria have airtight doors? Is the cafeteria bordering the exterior of the ship?
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
##GM NOTE The Cafeteria has a bay of windows looking out into space. To demonstrate difficulty of tasks I roll a %. In this instance the complexity of the damage is an 86% which is actually very high. There is not an easily accessible depressurization chamber near cafeteria. The nearest Airlock is the brig a full deck below.

(Moving forward I will not share my % rolls until after the fact but I wanted to demonstrate how my adjudication system works)

There is a ventilation shaft which combines venting gasses from the kitchen and converts it into H20 using the ships Recycler.

There is also a way to detatch that entire section if the ship removing Residential block B and capping your future population at 450.

These are options noted by the ships main computer.
DemonRHK (100 D(B))
08 Jun 16 UTC
##CALL GM: Are there static options or can we come up with any insane ideas?

What other major areas would be affected by venting the two decks?
brainbomb (290 D)

I am detecting that venting to depressurize would affect kitchen and 3 residential halls currently housing 46 civilians.
DemonRHK (100 D(B))
08 Jun 16 UTC
Ok then, computer, assuming the ship is equipped with an air scrubber, what's the possibility of reversing the ventilation system to flood the cafeteria with carbon dioxide?
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
The ship could refill the room with CO2 and cycle oxygen out. Sea-%/#***&&//Critical to survival of civilians on B deck. Please Do Not activate co\***&&&&###!_%£_ ERROR If you comply there should be few issues. Current readings show B deck is already trying to put fires out on its own. The loose heating coil outside is causing failures locally in counter-measures.
Floodgates (2004 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
We can cycle the oxygen out, wait for the temperature in the cafeteria to decrease to below 250 F. At that point we could then send in a team wearing the space suits to repair the loose heating coil.
brainbomb (290 D)
08 Jun 16 UTC
##GM NOTE much like in past sim games in order to enact policies you introduce proposals in this manner:

"Proposal #

(add content of exact wording of the proposed idea; councillors then vote to approve or reject ideas. You have until June 18 to select an affinity plan and resolve current crisis)

A proposal passes only with a majority vote of active players.
brainbomb (290 D)

Councillors are advised to nominate a ship captain and a scribe who submits enacted legislation into the data banks.

Status report: fires are still currently burning?

I feel as though the time sensitivity precludes voting on proposals... this is why we, as a crew and as a computer, have trained for emergency preparedness. Right?

a) does the ship have automated responses to emergencies such as this?
b) does the crew have training for how to deal with emergencies like this?

A couple more questions:

c) what is the temperature of the fires, and can the computer generate a prediction of fire temperatures into the near future? I'd like to determine if our space suits can handle the heat, so that...
d) can we evacaute all crew, then send in a trained emergency response team to deal with the fire? If not the fire itself, they could secure all essential inventory and then let the system flush a cycle of CO2 or vacuum through.
teacon7 (306 D)
09 Jun 16 UTC
To elaborate on an example from above, the starship enterprise does not have a democratic decision-making process. There are ranks and commanders for a reason. I'm all for respecting and protecting the liberties due to each according to their created nature, BUT in a naval situation, a clearly defined chain of command seems to work better in cases like this. I.e., if there's a fire, Picard would ask questions, get input, then make the call and apologize later. So: not to try to instituted a hierarchy or tyranny here, but what's the command structure? Counselors and proposals and votes to put out a fire?

(As much as I'd love to join this, actually quite upset that I can't, i will be moving this month and with my recent promotion will have literally 0 hours of commitment. Thank you BB for keeping the sims going. Looking forward to jumping onto Sim 4 when things settle. If you haven't played I really suggest trying this out BB seems to have this pretty much planned out and I am excited to see where he goes.)

@Agent Teacon7 - We, a group of agents, have recently captured this Space-X ship and escaped from earth. There are clearly other humans on board, but we are probably quite inexperienced in regards to running such a vessel.

Additionally, our leader has just been fused into a computer! We will need to sort our command structure out soon, for now though we are leaderless.

##GM NOTE by the way. this is the intro phase remember ANYONE can join the game still up until June 15.

C&£_%#ilor Teacon7;

We have counter mea_%÷÷$ to ERROR fires. Computer cannot execute command without a defined command structure. Voice command activation code jmo71055 was banned: Multi/Sarg. Logs erased. Captain brainbomb left no command structure in place.

&*****/&\%_/=%/

It seems in order for commands to execute the computer needs a majority of crew on bridge to agree until a captain is elected who has executive order once per phase. Until then I should tell you despite the damage I am still brainbomb. I am sort of **&\/"%!÷=/ Different however.

There are 4 cyborgs on the ship that can space walk to fix the external coil. A human space walk may be more in order. If a human with any sense of how to assess visual damage could see it... perhaps □♡♢♧♤{¡♧♢》♢♧♡♧♡♢♢♡♢♡♢♡■¤>}<|^~°○^•¤^○□○□|《《》¤¤▪●《●<■■♤♡♢♡♡♡♤♡♡♡♡♡♤♤♤♤♤♤♤♤♧♧♤》|<□● ERROR. FATAL PROGRAM MALFUNCTION.

REBOOTING.

teacon7 (306 D)
09 Jun 16 UTC
Well...

The coil should be fixed. Do we have anyone that can fix it? Will they be appropriately suited, tethered, tooled, etc, for the job?

IMO, a crew hierarchy should consist of:
first tier:
1. Captain
2. XO / first mate
second tier:
3. science officer
4. engineering officer
5. ship doctor
6. military officer
?. ______ related to our selected victory pathway

We can/should still vote on proposals democratically. The command hierarchy is in place in the event that there is a time-sensitive situation which cannot wait for a democratic majority. In time sensitive situations (where one or more players aren't online/are lurking and therefore not contributing), the captain has authority to make emergency calls. The person sitting as captain may change from time to time, depending on our ability, real-life availability, etc. The captain must be held to account, of course.

What temperature is the fire? Can the computer predict a model of how hot the fire could potentially get if/when we use space suits to protect ourselves while putting it out?

WebDiplomacy policy on restarting a game
I'm sure this type of topic has happened before. One of the players in "Friendly Mediterranean Variation" managed to 'ready' without any units being ordered. All units were held. Major screw up. Hurts the balance of the game. We are still kind of discussing the ramifications and what to do about the moves... but is it possible to either fix the moves for him? or restart the game with everyone playing the same countries?

It's the year 2030. Diplomacy has finally taken its rightful place as one of the "big four" global sports, along with soccer, twenty20 cricket, and ultimate frisbee. The first million dollar tournament opens with hordes of screaming fans straining to glimpse you as you stroll to the game board, your walk-on music reverberating through the arena...

Wanted: Thoughtful Discussion
I'm working on a project where I have to document the process of having a discussion with someone whose views I disagree with. The point of the assignment is to examine my own biases, and find ways to address them. So, since I consider myself liberal in most social and economic policy, I'm looking for an open-minded conservative to debate and discuss politics with. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.
