What is cultural (mis)appropriation?
Some one told me today that it is racist for white people to wear dreadlocks and that it is an example of cultural appropriation? What is the difference between cultural appropriation (bad) and cultural exchange (good)?

You have escaped yon dungeon.
Now the kingdom is in peril. An imposter has taken over the governors mansion and flooded the countryside with flesh eating rabbits. Anyone caught out after dark is getting shredded by these chupacabras. After several days of going from place to place you find yourself hiding inside a burger king. outside there are rabbits. thousands of them. what do you do.

All the corruption of Mexican politics is well symbolized in Nieto. Meanwhile Sharif is turning Pakistani politics almost into satire. Imran Khan, who had been hope and a rising star, is hard to take seriously, despite being the best, but not the majority, of what Pakistan's opposition has to offer.

Bashar al-Assad in Syria!!! How could I forget him? Maybe he was too obvious after all those civilians he has murdered to stay in power. Anyhow he is also in one of the top positions on the list.

"@peter: if that's all you know about Duterte you should do a little reasearch. He makes Donald Trump look like Bernie Sanders."

You are right there. I will keep a close eye on this guy. My excuse to not be more uptodate on this one, is that he is newly elected and the Swedish media has not said so much about him yet.

I feel badly for Nawaz Sharif. The military is trying to sabotage him at every turn. The PTI is basically taking orders from the generals to undermine him. Pakistan's growth numbers look good despite all the security problems.

What's so bad about Duterte? From what I can find about him, he seems to have significantly reduced crime, sometimes through dubious means. The key is that he establishes fear within criminals, which is something we need in the US. Here, criminals don't have fear of serious reprisal. They only need to face some prison time in a prison system that some even voluntarily enter. It's a joke. Criminals have it better than the homeless people, enjoying TV and sanitary one-person cells at the expense of taxpayers' money, and they're frequently paroled far ahead of their time.

I don't know enough about Duterte, so I'll just post this comment in the article you posted:

this man saved the life of a baby hostage in exchange for himself in 1989 hostage incident
this man kills drug lords
this man kills corrupt police officers
this man talks to different rebel faction leaders on Philippine soil to avoid war
this man drives taxi at midnight incognito to see to it his citizen are safe from harm
and countless others..
this man promotes harmony between Muslims and Christian in his city
etc...etc...etc..

He said he meant to say it. And it wasn't a joke. He's disgusting. Also:
http://x.rappler.com/x/neuroeconomist/1460148355879-Is-Davao-City-still-the-murder-capital-of-the-Phil
"From 2010 to 2015, there were a total of 1,032 recorded murders, the highest in all 15 cities. Its average yearly murder rate is fourth in rank. And despite enjoying a decline in overall crime from 2014 to 2015, murder and homicide cases continue to increase. "
Murder murder murder. Duterte can't stop iiiittttt. It's expanding in his former cityyyyy. (This section is close to the bottom. Murder rates in Davao City are increasing)
leon1122 (190 D)
11 May 16 UTC
"Social stability was crucial for the progress of the city. Under Rodrigo Duterte's tenure as mayor from 2001 to 2010, the city maintained its stability. The crime rate dropped between 1995 and 2008."

"Davao City is constantly described by its residents and the national media as arguably among one of the safest cities in the Philippines"

TrPrado (461 D)

Obviously he's popular. No one's arguing he's not. He won. And general crime rate dropped, while the rate of citizens killing each other has risen. Not as safe as perceived, and Duterte isn't a great person.
TrPrado (461 D)
11 May 16 UTC
This belief that Duterte can fix the corruption in the Philippines is nothing new. It's the same reason Vicente Fox won the Mexican presidency in 2000. The PRI was corrupt beyond all doubt, and the PAN vowed to fix it. 12 years later, the PAN presidents did very little to change anything effectively. This is the same thing. Nothing will change under Duterte except an increased tolerance of the death penalty in the Philippines (or a dramatic shift away from its popularity in reaction to how little he actually accomplishes).
TrPrado (461 D)

So the real question is whether or not it's worth having someone in charge who said he wished he had raped a hostage victim.
leon1122 (190 D)
11 May 16 UTC
If the murder rate were really so high, the perceived safety would have dropped, and he would not have been elected. I question who exactly is being murdered. Could it be Duterte murdering the criminals.

It's not what he says that matters, it's what he actually does. I doubt he will rape anyone.
TrPrado (461 D)
11 May 16 UTC
That's what's happening though. It could have to do with rates of other crimes dropping, or Duterte telling everyone they're safe. Statistically, it's increasing if you check the numbers. But it's almost anomalic with an overall drop in crime. It is the most heinous of crimes though, so it is kind of strange that someone who claims his policies makes everyone surely safer can help in every way except the most serious crime.

"It's not what he says that matters, it's what he actually does. I doubt he will rape anyone."

He kisses his female supporters. He once, while speaking at a wedding, insinuated that he was offering to have sex with every woman attending. He's a creep.

Murder is a crime. Execution figures where the death penalty is legal is not going to figure into the murder rate.
Litter Picker (100 D)
11 May 16 UTC
Extrajudicial executions should certainly figure into the murder rate.

LP: He's acted as judge, jury and executioner in the past and has said that he will kill people and then pardon himself. What he did as mayor expanded to the national level is a frightening prospect.
leon1122 (190 D)
11 May 16 UTC
@trip It seems to me that he's a good judge. Extreme circumstances call for extreme measure.
TrPrado (461 D)
12 May 16 UTC
And extreme measures happen to fail in what they intend most heavily to accomplish :)
TrPrado (461 D)

Also, LP, those wouldn't factor in because those killings ended in 2008, whereas this increase statistic has been 2010-2015.
Al Swearengen (0 DX)

It's worth noting that the compiler of this list has included something like 20% Jews/Russians. Hardly seems fair to me.

This list is racist.
Putin33 (111 D)

Russophobic racism is Peterlunds speciality. It comes as no surprise that he made this post on Victory Day, in true Volkish style.

"Also, LP, those wouldn't factor in because those killings ended in 2008, whereas this increase statistic has been 2010-2015."

Look at that; the killings end, and murder goes up.
steephie22 (182 D(S))

He's got a point. If the government is ever caught murdering an innocent person by accident, due to the simple fact that they don't need that much evidence, that will cause complete chaos, but he's got a point.

[Suggestion] Only one winner option
I know that the formula of this website is stable and rarely sees major changes. That being said, I'd like to suggest to implement an option by which the option to draw is eliminated, and ultimately there can be only one winner.

Where to buy a gaming computer?
So, I've got some money put aside for a new computer. In the past I've just gotten a cheap dell or had some help buying parts and putting one together. At this point I'd like to buy a pre-built one for a decent price that will do well playing games. Does such exist? What do I need to look for?

Thanks!
