What is TA and what is SOW?

The SoW is the "School of War", a game where we pair new players with experienced players as a learning experience. Each newer player gets paired with an experienced player who can help them with their press, tactics and strategy. In the SoW, we have:

* 7 players (typically players who know the rules, but want to improve their game)
* 7 "Teaching Assistants (TAs)", one per player (experienced players who mentor the players).
* 1-3 "professors" - who follow the game and write commentary on the forum.

The students can exchange their press with their TAs, but the professors only have access to the global press (like any spectator).

It's a great series, and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their play.

From very recent experience I absolutely recommend this; I've played Dip for many decades, but I learned a lot in my time under Fairfax's tutelage. Well worth doing, but be prepared to put the effort in.

What's the likely game timer for full press SoW? I am interested in being a student (although I am definitely happy to be passed over if you have less experienced students - I've played a lot of gunboat, but it's been nearly a decade since I last played a serious full press game).

Is the game timer likely to be 2 days again? I'd prefer 60 or 72 if possible, especially if my TA ends up not being in Australian time zone, but as above I may not be relevant anyway if you have enough interest.

how new do you have to be to play in this? + what's the time per phase, i'd prefer 2(+) days

Gonnor I have a very complex and patented algorithm for deciding who is eligible to join. However, I'll risk some of my intellectual property secrets to discuss with you your case.

The SOW focuses on the ultimate form of the game:
Full Press
Winner Takes All

Now, you may have joined in 2010 but the join date means little to nothing.
The question is whether you fit in the category of someone who understands all the rules and is willing to put in the committment to take their game to the next level. At first glance your win rate and such put you at an experience level that might make you better suited as a TA, but if you look at your history it's mostly either
Variant Maps (ick)
Gunboat
PPSC (ick)

So while you may boast a 9% win rate, when it comes to Classic FP WTA, it's by far much lower (in fact I believe you've only ever played 3, and one was a live game). Combined with your high RR and ability to contribute to threads, I'd have no problem with you joining the next SOW.

alright, some nice innovative algrorithm. I know the rules and know how to play the game but still not enough to get to the next level. I would love to learn more to step up my game.

Uhh, would someone be willing to TA me with something? I am about to make a move in a game i am in and i am not quite sure if it's going to work out entirely correctly would love someone to clarify a rules question for me!
