On The Forum
As some of you may know, I have been a strong proponent of a one forum system. After some careful reflection, though, I've decided separate forums are better. I have a proposal that would allow for the separation of topics without the segregation of the community that many fear. I realize this is a sensitive topic, so I would appreciate serious criticism only. I have taken the liberty of making a mock-up of my proposed forum here: http://i.imgur.com/rgcdsO2.png

? I don't see anyone implying anyone has cheated. But seriously, what's not to understand about Lusthog? No voting draw unless units are lined up along an actual stalemate line.

Which means it's *impossible* to force a unit through. Not "unlikely", not "you'd have to be very lucky to break through", actually impossible according to game mechanics, given a certain set of orders on both sides.

If there's not a stalemate line, there's not a stalemate line. Nobody is forced to eliminate themselves, at all. If you want to not be eliminated, be on the stalemate line.
kasimax (243 D)

ssorenn, chumbles, nobody is accusing you of cheating. what the lusthog rules try to prevent is that once three powers are at, say 8 centers each, that they immediately take out the others and then draw.
thorfi (1023 D)
06 Jun 15 UTC
And looking at that map, I'm with 2WL, that could easily be a French solo sitting right there, and I'm not even certain Russia and Germany could definitely prevent it.

no one asked you----thats why with press there are things that you are unaware of
goldfinger0303 (3157 DMod)

I am not the creator of the lusthog variant, so those familiar with it should let me know if I'm interpreting this wrong. Basically I lumped Germany with Russia and saw if France could take any centers. He could. Then I lumped Germany with France and saw I'd France could take any centers. He could. If in either of these situations France couldn't gain anything, I would be OK with a draw.

For those who play lusthog, is this not how the rules should be interpreted?

so, in this instance either Germany has to commit suicide or let France win....what if the German abstains from helping either....

France cant take Trieste without German help
dyager_nh (619 D)

I think they are implying Germany would HAVE to make a piss poor move like let France into Trieste or move there himself which is absurd.

To expect one country to work with another against his own SCs interest seems too literal an interpretation. If Venice was owned by a French army then I 100% agree.

There was a stalemate line provided Germany decides he wants to hold it which it seems he did.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))

the game should not have ended. Dont join games that you don't understand or don't want to play. It was pointed out by multiple people including the Tournament Director. Pretty disgraceful is an understatement.

I think you're all missing the point. The burden for this doesn't fall on Germany, but France. No, Germany should not have to forfeit his own SC's o break a stalemate. But had France stabbed Germany, the solo was his.
ckroberts (3548 D)
06 Jun 15 UTC
I am on my phone so I can't look carefully and might be wrong, but I don't think I could have stabbed Germany and won. I don't think I could have held Sweden and Denmark, which would have gone disown, which means Russian victory. There was definitely not a stalemate around Trieste though, which is what I misread.

+1 goldfinger. German SCs open for the taking does not a stalemate line make. The Italian region and Albania are eminently crackable by France whilst also locking down the North.

Ssorenn: *shrug* Yes, nobody asked me. I'm just chiming in because I'm nosy. Press has nothing to do with it. A stalemate line is a stalemate line based on unit positions and orders alone. That board is not aligned along a stalemate line. That's all there is to it.

Firstly, could someone please remove me from the roster for the next game. I'll be without points for at least a few more weeks, and I'm mobile today so I can't do it myself.

I created the Lusthog varient more for gunboat than press. The two main reasons were to prevent players from using the draw vote as a way to signal, and to force games to be played to the end, instead of having mid-game draws because no one is in an enviable position.
ckroberts (3548 D)
08 Jun 15 UTC
I am traveling for a bit so I cannot respond thoroughly, but, do people think we need to reconsider the rules in the Mountain? Lusthog sounds so good in theory, but it practice it has caused some problems. I don't know what system would best replace it, though, to avoid getting to three-way draws every time.

Also, what is a good punishment for the way game 2 ended? Do we know if it's possible to restart a game?
ssorenn (0 DX)
08 Jun 15 UTC
this CK guy obviously likes bondage or something, he wants punishment.....i for one dont think the lusthog rules apply well to full press and i also don't think it was that much of a travesty(the last game) the German finally chose not to be on anyone's side and he was the swing vote to solo for either France or myself
ssorenn - you must have missed my memo. It was not Germany choosing sides that was preventing the game from drawing. On either side he was on, there were ways to break the stalemate. If he chose no sides at all, there were ways to break the stalemate. So whatever rhetoric you think you're hearing against Germany, please stop hearing it.
ssorenn (0 DX)
08 Jun 15 UTC
where were the breaks in the line?
Rome? Holland?
If Germany were truly trying to be a neutral party, there was almost no way he could throw the game to you if France had acted first and decisively enough.
ssorenn (0 DX)
08 Jun 15 UTC
Germany and i had been talking about that for a year and a half, and what does those two SC net France--15 thats it, and if Germany was pissed enough he could throw the game to me....so i dont agree
Now, you can say "whoah now, France would never do that! Because Kiel/Sweden were vulnerable".

Fine. Then Germany is on France's side, and Trieste/Albania were open for the taking. No matter what side you put Germany on, there was no stalemate.
