Getting a second undergrad degree in a mostly unrelated subject
I think I may end up doing this 2-4 years from now, and I just wonder how common it is.

Also, a potentially stupid related question - how possible is it to get into a grad school in a subject you did not study in undergrad? Can you just take courses a la carte to meet the pre-reqs and/or beg them to let you give it a shot? All my research on grad school doesn't turn up much on what kind of students are accepted into the programs.

New here: How do I join a new game?
I've been looking around the site and I'd like to join a game. When I click on the "Games" link I do see a bunch of games. Some are in progress already. Some have "join for x". I'd really appreciate detailed instructions, step by step, click by click. Details are important to me.

I'd prefer not to be russia or italy.

18 Feb 15 UTC
The SoW should have student who currently understand the working of the game, and want to hone their skill. Newbs should not be allowed, unless vetted by someone else. RR shouldn't apply, but amount of games played on site should. This allows you to get people in game that want to add later value to site.

In terms of TAing, I've had most experience of Turkey (IIRC), but happy to do anyone bar Italy and Austria

What's the cut-off for games played?

I, or at least I think I do, know how the game works and any part that I might not know, I can pick up pretty quickly.

abgemacht (1076 D(G))

SS, you going to TA for Austria?
ssorenn (0 DX)
18 Feb 15 UTC
I would consider Italy. But it would also be based on who I might TA. Last time I tried this, he person did not want to listen and I got quite frustrated. I won't stick the time in if the player doesn't want to listen.
Daviidnavidad (100 D)
18 Feb 15 UTC
I would gladly play
rmf (100 D)
18 Feb 15 UTC
Ok, let's see what I'd prefer.... Austria? I'm TERRIBLE with Austria. I always get invariably crushed. I just can't deal with all those fronts simultaneously. Italy? I am always at a loss of what to do with Italy. How do I pick an enemy? And when I do, how do I fight them effectively? I always end up going after Turkey with a Lepanto, because that's the only effective offensive I ever manage to set up.
Yeah, Italy or Austria, no particular order.
I would love to TA if that's all right. Though I would probably be best with Turkey, France or England as I have the most and best experience with them.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

So far the players are:
1. Draffin
2. rmf
3. Tru Ninja

Who else? :)

Haha dyager is being a little hyperbolic - If my press was a work of art, it would have convinced him to do what I wanted; dyager was a bit too smart for me however and blocked my every move :)
Really glad to be the Adjunct Prof for this SoW game. Always wanted to be a part of this endeavour. I have a feeling I am going to learn as much out of this exercise as I will help some of the students learn! Looking forward to it :)
@Tru, you missed YoYo.
Yoyoyozo (65 D)
18 Feb 15 UTC
He's scared that I'm going to beat him:

1. Draffin
2. rmf
3. Tru Ninja
4. Yoyoyozo
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))
18 Feb 15 UTC
O ya. Him too.

I'd be willing to join thus one. Either as co-prof (primary) or western nation TA.
I believe it is:

Players:
1. Draffin
2. rmf
3. TruNinja (aren't you a little experienced to play?)
4. Yoyoyozo
5. Daviidnavidad

TAs:

1. Octavious
2. Pete U
3. mendax
4. dyager_nh
5. ssorenn
6. VashtaNeurotic

if I am not msitaken

I would be interested in joining, I would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about any country really and to have someone dissect my strategies sounds too appealing to turn down. My RR is fairly low but that is mainly because I had games in action when college started and couldn't finish them (as I didn't have a computer). I do have a computer now and this term I definitely have the time.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

@sammich and david:

Understand I'm not the TD or anyone else in charge, but having proffed, acted as director, and TA, I personally think the two of you pose a risk with the high number of CDs on your profile. If one of you is going to play, you'll likely have to really put forth a lot of effort to join a high-profile game that takes half a year of commitment plus EoGs.

Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
18 Feb 15 UTC
thank you everyone for the incredible amount of interest and excitement over this! It looks like we'll have more than enough TAs which is a indicator of just how great this community is, especially its regular members.

it's not necessarily first come first serve, and in addition as mentioned above we often make a separate study group session if we have a whole nother board of students and enough TAs in general, so I highly encourage anyone who's interested to make that known still, especially for students which we have yet to meet our quota.

Ssorenn as always makes an incredibly useful point. while I characterize them as new in my introductory message, they are traditionally players who are those which have understood the game and played it before nontrivially and are looking to hone their skills to the next level. In draffins case I grilled him and ATC on his seriousness before he posted to the thread.

I was the victim of the student who did not take it seriously last semester, and Deathllama graciously took over an extremely wounded Turkey and played it to the end with respect and sportsmanship. however, we should not be put in that position in the first place and thus why I mention that it is not necessarily first come first serve and that there will be some sort of gating and/or checks.

@Vash- I know I have a low RR but I have finished far more games than I have CD'd the serious hit to my RR came when I CD'd multiple games when leaving for college. In the past week of being back on the site full-time I have improved my RR by 5%. I have 31 finished games.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
18 Feb 15 UTC
I would understand however if the group feels that I should wait for my RR to improve.

I'd really appreciate being able to play in this system. While we were forced to end the Study Group game because of people dropping out, I'd like to try again. Are there any players who would fit better in the Study Group (and who are reliable)?
Aereaux (139 D)
18 Feb 15 UTC
What is the difference between the main game and the Study Group?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
18 Feb 15 UTC
Study group usually has a few experienced players in the game. No TAs. No regular Prof commentary.
