This is probably irrelevant to most of you, but my second daughter just came into the world. Where do I go to share this news? Webdip.
In any event, she's healthy and I am one happy papa.

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

@kately no stop it I don't want God's help to stop smoking. I can totally handle it. If you want to pray for me please, you and all the other good Christians combine your prayers and ask God to show me the way. We all know that prayer works super well so if everybody gets on board I just know he'll allow me to witness His holiness and become a true believer.
Yellowjacket, God helps those who helps themselves. So go buy a pack of nicorette and we can sing praises to the Most High for manifesting himself in the form of gum.

not 100% biblical but the bible says A (man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps : Proverbs 16:9) the key there is you have to be moving you have to be taking steps (The steps of the righteous man are ordered by the Lord. Psalms 37:23 ) its up to you to take the steps.

Please stop praying to me. I don't give a shit about you.

Thanks,

"Dear Jesus.

Please show yourself to me that I might bask in your glory and be saved. I do not want to go to hell. I want to live righteously. Please hear my solemn prayer. I need salvation.

Dear Jesus I also want to quit smoking. But I'm not praying for that. Please, I know you're busy, so I can do this on my own, sweet Jesus. What I really care about is eternal salvation. Show me your word!"

Well done! I will continue prayi. (And before anyone wonders, yes, I actually see the irony for once. Nevertheless, well done!) I wouldn't look too hard for the beard, though. He's normally a little too invisible for that.

I love how this thread is filled with threats of an infinite kind of torture never experienced on earth, and were all numb from its overuse and some people who say enjoyably say it even call themselves good people.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

amonkeyperson - the kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by two slaves who are left by their master with 100 D each before he goes away on a long journey. The first slave bets the points on several games and increases it to 200 D. The second slave did nothing and posted in the forum all day. When the master returns, how will he punish the second slave.

I tell you the truth, any tree that does not bear fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Day 2:

Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner, and I fear for the eternal damnation of my immortal soul. Please let me believe in you so that I may be saved, and know you in the kingdom of heaven.

Dear Jesus, I've gone two days without smoking. It's hard, but I want to continue to do it on my own to show you I can be strong in the right path. I know you're very busy, but please show me your truth!

Yellowjacket (835 D(B))

That is a worldly concern. My immortal soul is more important, and I need help to save it.
amonkeyperson (100 D)

Thuci- I would say that violates god being all good but you would argue that anything god does is good, even things we may think are bad. So there's no point in discussing that.
amonkeyperson (100 D)

Why not just be a good person? If there isn't a God then you just look like idiot and there's no heaven, if there is a God, he'll love you for being a good person and won't care if you believe in his existence or not. You and I both know that it's more important to be a good person than believe in something, right?

Yeah, I'm that vain. Go to hell.

Sincerely,
God, aka bo_sox48

Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
26 Mar 14 UTC
You don't need God to be a good person. Believing in God can help some people be good and righteous (while making plenty of others the opposite...), but the religious people that claim you NEED God to be a good, righteous person, i.e. those who proselytize, are some of the most narrow-minded people on the planet.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Underage Drinking
Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

Woody Allen, child molestor[?], given a lifetime achievement award.
So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
