What is rich?
Rich I believe is a relative term. What do people here consider rich?

@ssorenn - Rich people are *all* leveraged. They don't leave cash just lying around. Do you really think Donald Trump has tons of cash sitting in the bank (not that I am at all impressed with him, I'm not)? No, the truly rich have it tied up in the market and as collateral on expensive property and such.

We actually hope that is most peoples rich. Hope

Dream number? That would have to be independently wealthy material.
I don't know a great deal about what it takes to be independently wealthy, but ~20,000,000 would probably be a good starting point. If anyone has any input on what it takes to be independently wealthy, I'd love to hear.

To answer the question:

It's all relative, of course, but around my area, I'd consider anything over $1,000,000 a year would be considered rich.
ssorenn (0 DX)

At 8 million invested moderately , you can assume a 6% annual growth leaves you with $480,000 pre tax and around 280-300 post pending on where you live

meh....I don't know what rich means. You have many terms here "Wealth" "well to do" "rich"...but I don't know that everyone agrees on the terms.

Rich is like good pornography: I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.

I'm not rich. Nowhere near rich. I'll let you know when I get there.

All these other answers are bullshiite.

Thursday night troll ..... no, I want to know what night you think is the best night to troll, I think it's Thursday, the 2nd Thursday of the month ...... but what day do you think it should be.
Is it :-
2nd Thursday of every month
3rd Monday of every month
5th Sunday after every lunar eclipse
The day that Jesus had all the babies killed
Which one?
"Lot's of friends, the good opinion of the people around you."

"Everyone has a number in their head, that if they could amass that wealth they would consider themselves rich. What's that #?"

Quite honestly I don't have such a number in my head. For me it's more bill's paid, family's healthy, a house that meets all our needs, a nice neighborhood.

Also I'm an English teacher, so I kind of like it when my students come up with creative ways to answer a question. It isn't so much side-stepping but giving a different perspective. We could all post a number, but what would that matter. There have been people that probably exceeded every number so far posted and were miserable. To what end are we posting numbers?
krellin (80 DX)
14 Feb 14 UTC
Nigee, just like pornography, I can't define the best night to troll, but I know it when I'm there.

It's obvious when the dance monkeys are frothing at their keyboards, and the Libtards and shouting their Libnial, and I'm sitting here snickering, covered in cheeto-dust (cheetle, i know) while the kids watch netflix.

"That's rich coming from you"

I saw some young healthy kids in huge inflatable inner tubes floating down the river in Sumatra, smiling, laughing and playing as they went.
The backdrop was the rainforest, across was the river was the Bukit Lawang orangutang sanctuary, this was Autumn 1996.
Sadly in 2003 a flash flood killed many of the people in Bukit Lawang, I think back to those young children I saw that day and wonder how many, if any, of them survived.
http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Bukit+Lawang+Sumatra&qpvt=Bukit+Lawang+Sumatra&FORM=IGRE#view=detail&id=C045F247AF8D5FF689FF2F36FB194A00D9CE89AF&selectedIndex=275

My idea of richness and wealth changed that day ....... and when someone asks that question 'how rich are you" and I think about the things I've done and the beautiful things I have seen in my life and my family and friends and I think, if I died today I would die a rich man.
Income and wealth won't make you rich ........ you have to feel rich to be rich. Too many people with lots of money are unhappy.
I and my siblings are due to inherit a substantial property portfolio from my father, it has caused so much division, jealousy, unhappiness in my family and in my life I dread the day it happens. With any luck I will be financially secure into my old age but with my family fighting over the scraps of my dead fathers estate will I be rich?
Bill Gates is not passing all his wealth to his children, why would he not do that, doesn't he want them to be rich ... maybe he does, that's exactly why he is doing it

Nigee -- question (serious, even): While I understand the desire, even instinct, to have close relations to family, the fact of the matter is they are just "other people" who happen to have some genetic link to you.

Perhaps you would be rich is you found happiness in the people you wish to be happy with, who you *can* be happy with, instead of pinning your happiness on people "forced" into your life by family, instead of those put there by choice.

Do you think you can let go of your family?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
14 Feb 14 UTC
Krellin - I have a big family, some are closer than others. But I have brothers and sisters that respect me, will do anything for me, will support me through tick and thin.
When I look back at how I grew up although money was tight I was surrounded by people that loved me and cared for me and about me ....... sadly not everyone has that in their life and their childhood has affected their world view in a negative way,
At the time I was growing up I was desperately unhappy about the material things I did not have in my life ....... but as I have got older being able to reflect on what I did have has made me grateful about how lucky I was.
So when I say family I'm not being trite, they are a great source of power and love for me, without them I don't think I could spend my whole life taking the mickey out of weirdos which would be a damn shame.
When you are down, where do you go to recharge?

A rich person is the one who doesn't want more money then he has already. It is a matter of approach and is subjective to each and every one of us.

A strong and loving family is never split up by fights over wills. Either it will remain largely unaffected or the loving closeness was never more than an illusion. Either your family will pleasantly surprise you, or reality becomes clearer. You can lose nothing but a lie.
I think chocolate cake is usually quite rich.

I have been playing here for some time, and I'm a little upset with the way the randomizer works. I have started in 25 games and have not once been chosen to play as Turkey. I have been Turkey once when I joined midgame. I would like to play a game from start to finish as Turkey, but it has yet to happen. Can somebody explain how the algorithms work exactly and why I have yet to be Turkey yet have been Russia now 6 times.

One of many liberal paradox's, I call this one Putin33's Dilemma:

USA must intervene in all humanitarian war disasters (CAR, Syria, S. Sudan, etc.) -- but if USA intervenes in war, the USA is committing war crimes in the act of war itself (Drones kill!).
