Is Communism a form of religious belief?
Is Communism a form of religious belief, where instead of seeing God’s hand at work in all things, one sees the class struggle? When historical events are re-interpreted from a Communist viewpoint in a discussion with non-Communists, is the effect the same as when believers re-interpret historical events as divine intervention, in a discussion with atheists?

Wisdom or Rubbish? A Thread for Evaluating Famous One-Line Nuggets of Advice.
Post your favorite--or most hated--one-line maxim or saying or quote or *insert another synonym here.*

The next person to post will then say what they think of your posted saying, ie, Wisdom or Rubbish and why, and post their own little one-liner. Repeat until hell freezes over (or we get bored...or we devolve into a name-calling contest...whichever comes first...ha, as if it's a question which will come first...)

Rank falling dramatically
So, one day my rank said that I was in the top 62% and I was considered a member... but then randomly it fell to the top 92% and now I'm a casual player. I didn't draw, win, lose, survive, or resign any games in between this period. Why did this happen?

Draws in PPSC
I was wondering to myself why the pot is split evenly in a PPSC draw. I thought it would make more sense, and make things more interesting, if the draw ended the game and dealt out the points each player is currently "worth" in the game.

NFL Pick 'em--PLAYOFF EDITION...12 TEAMS, 1 GOAL...IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN!
The Chargers are the last team standing in that crazy race for the 6th seed in the AFC. Aaron Rodgers rained all over Da Bears' parade, leading the Pack to victory and setting up another classic Niners/Packers clash...only this time, at Lambeau Field. A typical Cowboys/Eagles clash ended in the typical Cowboy way...but it was Orton throwing the season-ending pick this time. The NFC: SEA, CAR, PHI, GB, SF, NO. The AFC: DEN, NE, CIN, IND, KC, SD. The Playoffs...PICK 'EM!

The players themselves have compared the NFL to slavery, this isn't new. Nor are comparisons between this sport and cockfighting or dogfighting. That the people are treated like chattel doesn't mean I think they should be, is the whole point Obi. You disagree. You think beating the shit out of people and then dumping them when their bodies can't take it anymore without any kind of health support is just fine and dandy, because you're "having fun" watching people get injured. And it's ok because they signed a contract.

Seems to me the blacks aren't doing too badly in the NFL either.

From http://www.tidesport.org/RGRC/2012/2012_NFL_RGRC.pdf:

Half of the 12 teams making the 2011/2012 playoffs had either an African-American head coach or general manager. The two head coaches were Marvin Lewis of the Cincinnati Bengals and Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The four general managers were Jerry Reese of the NY Giants, Rick Smith of the Houston Texans, Ozzie Newsome of the Baltimore Ravens, and Martin Mayhew of the Detroit Lions. Jerry Reese, who had become the first African-American general manager to win a Super Bowl when the New York Giants won in 2008, celebrated another Super Bowl win with the New York Giants victory in 2012.

And if fans killing each other is a problem for you--

HOW *DARE* you be a baseball fan! :O I mean, what about that incident at Dodger Stadium where a fan was brutally beaten and killed?!

But you ARE a baseball fan...so...?
Putin33 (111 D)

NHL is barbaric, yes. Because they make the rules deliberately for more contact and more physicality. The arenas are smaller and fighting is legal. That isn't the case in international hockey.

Here's the thing: If the existing sports were made too safe, people would lose interest and their attention would be drawn to other, more dangerous things. "Jackass" for example, which is more dangerous and feasible as a set of do-it-yourself projects.

Football needs to improve it's safety record, but it's a far cry from gladiatorial combat, it's not actually slavery, and it's better to incrementally adjust it than to discard it and have people inventing new ways to get themselves injured in their backyards.
Putin33 (111 D)

You're joking.

Soccer is the only sport where fans charge the field to attack players (Egypt), busses get shot up (Togo); riots lead to disqualifications from world tournaments (Senegal); stampedes lead to mass casualties (Liverpool/Juventus), and where monkey chants and swastikas routinely make an appearance, to such an extent that players walk off the field (most of Europe).

I've personally attended two international football games. One was an Asia cup game in China where the Chinese crowd booed the Japanese national anthem, and afterwards rioted and shouted anti-Japanese slogans when the Japanese team won on a handball goal.

The other was the US-Mexico match, where I had objects and beer thrown at me by Mexican fans, whilst the American fans engaged in chants about "Tijuana whores", and fans nearby yelled racial slurs.

I'm sure anybody who has attended a US-Mexico game in Azteca can tell you of the treatment of US fans and players by the fans there.

International soccer is the worst when it comes to inspiring irrational hatred.

You didn't say it had to bring different countries together. You said people. If you are a Chelsea or ManU fan, you are brought together with other Chelsea or ManU fans regardless of skin color or religion or any other difference.

Except not really, because teams have rival supporter firms that often do not get along for either geographical or political reasons. And many such firms are openly hostile to people of certain skin colors. For example, Chelsea's Headhunters or the Barcelona Boixos group.

"Nearly everyone in the UK is united in their dislike of Leeds, for example."

I'm not there but I'd guess the people in the UK think about LUFC these days about as much as they think about Everton - which is to say, not at all.

Yes I know you're a fraud and liar. You don't have to keep admitting this. I doubt you wrote a paper for anything. I doubt you even graduated. I very much doubt you're a software engineer or whatever you purport to be.

Gratz dude. I hope to save enough to go back part time in the summer semester and am looking into test outs as many of the classes I have taken thus far have been a breeze with open book finals and all. If the test outs are a matter of buying the book and then taking the final, I should have no problem testing out of a lot of classes and that is way cheaper than the $600 per credit hour (3-4 CH per class) that results in a full time semester costing upwards of $6000 even after my "career continuation" scholarship ($1667 per semester, 20K total over four years).

"I've personally attended two international football games. One was an Asia cup game in China where the Chinese crowd booed the Japanese national anthem,"

--Yeah...you know, Putin, for some reason, I think there's some bad blood between those countries...in other breaking news, Arabs tend not to applaud when they hear Israel's national anthem...or America's...or Britain's...and those countries aren't always a fan of Arabian nations' anthems, either...gee, I WONDER WHY...

"and afterwards rioted and shouted anti-Japanese slogans when the Japanese team won on a handball goal."

--So it's the sports fault fans got out of hand? And, again, you know, odd as it sounds, I just think Japan and China might have something of a history to them...maybe something happened oh, 75 or so years ago and people are still pissed about it...why, I bet there are things going on NOW that has them pissed--nah! It's just the barbarity of sport!

"The other was the US-Mexico match, where I had objects and beer thrown at me by Mexican fans, whilst the American fans engaged in chants about "Tijuana whores", and fans nearby yelled racial slurs."

1. So you're saying you went to a typical US-Mexico game?
2. You know, I think there's something of a history between THOSE countries, too!
3. I mean, Los Angeles is just such an English-sounding name for a city, right?
4. Now that part involving TJ was completely out of line...I mean, TJ's the happiest place on Earth! Krusty the Clown said so himself! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL7eSCu2wrk
5. Sounds like your problems were caused more by, oh, national rivalries AND people getting good and drunk...are you going to get on a soapbox and preach to us about temperance now? 'Cause I have to say...the 18th Amendment? Yeah...not coming back...
