I'm getting really tired of this bullshit with the "freeloader" comments. This site is FREE. Kestas made it free and he intends for it to stay free. Some people can help out with donation, and some people can help out with time by developing codes or modding, but it is not required. Please stop waiving the "I donated and why didn't you" bullshit. Just because you gave donation does not make you a more valuable member of the site by default. We appreciate the donation, but every user's rights on this site is the same regardless of whether they donated or not.

Yeah, the freeloader stuff has bothered me a little. I haven't been part of the site long, and when I said I was willing to donate, I was told something to the effect of, "Thanks for the offer, but save it til there's something important we need."

So the fact that there's no little dot next to my name doesn't mean I'm leeching off the generosity of others.

NigeeBaby, I'd like to apologize for not donating to the site. I hope one day I can find a way to give back to the site a little bit =(

But returning to the initial point, I don't get it, SD. You're still here, so... please clarify why you're upset. If it's that you were banned, then appealed and were un-banned, then what you're proving is that the system works. It's set up with multiple mods who, because they're all different people, apply the rules according to their own judgement. Since this naturally will lead to some subjective application of the rules, players have the ability to appeal to admins up to and including Kestas. In your case, your appeal succeeded. So justice has prevailed, right?

In all seriousness though, donating is not the only way people contribute to the site. Alderian does the ghostratings, MadMarx organizes high class games, Lando holds his gunboat tournaments, various players volunteer time to School of War games as professors. There really is no requirement or obligation for anyone to give to the site. Now that isn't to say we don't appreciate donations, everyone is welcome to donate if they want to and Kestas even gives medals to show appreciation for those contributions. But this is ultimately a free site, designed for people to play a fun game for free.

@Jmo don't act as you hadn't a clue what I'm talking about. You had all explanations and you didn't want to take action. Other times you had no need of explanations to take actions when you realy wanted to take actions.

Draug, do you solemnly swear to abide by this rule yourself for as long you are a member of this forum? REALLY? Because if you don't we're going to bring up this thread someday ;-) I think we can all recall a few times you have raised a few issues about mods yourself.

I think it is okay for SD to raise issues for discussion. The mods do a great job, but no system is perfect and sometimes it is good to talk things over, so long as it is constructive and not abusive.

@Split, I have handled two cases regarding you, action was taken in both. One action you saw, the other you did not. We do not publicize punishments as a rule. If you don't believe the other moderators and I that the situations were resolved then talk to Kestas. He actually does look into those matters. If you don't trust or want to talk to Kestas then I don't know what to tell you.

Guys the mods are Human! Of course they are trying to be as fair as possible, but with imperfect humans there will always be some inconsistencies or "favorites".

With that said, it's not hard to get on their good side. Just speak with respect, use proper channels, and present yourself as humble and appreciative of their dedication to the site. There, now you can all become favorites.

@spyman - I haven't bitched about the mods in some time and have no intention to. Now that I know there is a means of appeals and trust a couple of the admins to be fair about it (as well as KEstas) you won't see me bitch about them in anything except jest here.

And Gen. Lee has it right. Just like with police and judges, show respect and get a better result. Show respect when you don't have to and get respect and mercy when you need it.

I feel no need of bothering the site owner about such things. You had two same cases and you said you haven't taken actions against one and have take actions against the other. So I believe some people are above the rules and I've expressed the feeling here. Is that all right?

That's not at all correct. Each case has different circumstances, which are taken into account if and/or when the mods take action regarding a case. Personally, I like that the mods aren't hard and strict regarding the rules and allow for exceptions when circumstances warrant.

@ split, I believe you're referring to the two times you reported a potential rule violation. The first time you were asked by 2 mods several times for clarification because they (I didn't handle that case) didn't understand what you were referring to. By the time the matter was explained the game was over.

In the second situation the problem was explained and the player in question was contacted and stopped the potential rule abuse.

After this you asked if we felt the rule was viable or enforceable, and I replied saying that the team had a backlog of cases at the moment, but in a weeks time I'd be glad to have a forum conversation with gunboat'ers to figure out how the particular situation you reported should be addressed.

In addition, the first time was in a tournament game and the decision fell to the tournament director. Moderators do not interfere with tournaments unless there is multiaccounting without the consent of the TD.
