vdiplomacy login problems
Apparently my username doesn't seem to exist on vdiplomacy. I have tried contacting the mods about this but I have received no response months later. Does anyone here know what I can do, or if I am allowed to create another account identical to this one on vdip?

Private game needing players
Hey guys me and my friends are trying to host a private game of diplomacy because we have a 24 hour train ride. Our skill levels are mixed with many of the players only playing their third or fourth game while a couple of us have been playing for years. If anyone is willing to join gameID=181450 let me know and I'll give you the password. The only stipulation is you need to be able to chat on kik messenger. Thank you!

How do you end a drawn game when 1 player doesn't vote to draw.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=180889#gamePanel
I am playing France, the Italian player won't vote draw. Nobody has moved positions for maybe 4, 5 or 6 moves. It's a pain to keep entering the same set of orders, it is obviously a draw. What to do?

@"Your logic is again flawed. Following you logic, the solution to thievery is to either make all thieves rich so they won't be motivated to steal OR to make everyone poor so they have no one to steal from (Clinton for President?)"

So yeah, you'll be made poor by having jobs go overseas, and those people working the jobs will be raised to a level of wealth they had never known. Equal to your poor.

This is just trickle down economics which the right-wing has been preaching for decades (because it enriches the company owners and financial industry which lends to them) of course you can oppose globalisation, but you will inevitably lose; or you can oppose a certain kind of globalisation and try to make it a more fair global comminity, and you will struggle to see change over a generation or two.

But you are an asshole if you think migrants coming to america are thieves, and you don't think your founding fathers were thieves. The land stolen from Mexico, from native tribes, the people stolen and enslaved from Africa, the genius visa which steal education from every nation on the world. For its wntire history the US has been built upon stealing.

That is called capitalism, and you're only rallying against it now because it is hurting you.

("which left wing policies of past presidents would you like to see repealed?"

Gun control, welfare, affirmative action, increased taxes, refusal to enforce immigration laws, pandering, etc. )

Gun control? can you be more specific? It sounds like you think its hard to get a gun or something. Having an opinion that maybe we could sell a few less AR-15's does not equate to it being policy. If you haven't noticed, there is no gun control legislation at all. The gun lobby is essentially untouchable because its always trying to stay 3 steps ahead of even the most reasoned argument.

Welfare was created decades ago homey. so again, what the fuck are you talking about. The last few Presidents have not created welfare, it was already there.

Also Pandering isn't a policy. If you wanna talk about pandering, go ahead and explain to me how special interest anti abortion groups and big oil are not "pandering" to the right. (is that specific enough for you?)

Finally, lets put this to rest; nobody gives a damn about building some stupid wall. Stop trying to make fetch happen.
brainbomb (290 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
Also can you point out which tax policies over the last 4 presidencies have had the worst effects on the deficit and the economy?

Strangely I think you might actually believe the shit you are saying.

Congress is responsible for administering taxation, and passing policies. It goes to a President's desk. End of story. President's don't simply just enact tax hikes, this is not 1657.

"of course you can oppose globalisation, but you will inevitably lose; or you can oppose a certain kind of globalisation and try to make it a more fair global comminity, and you will struggle to see change over a generation or two."

I oppose globalization because it is against America's interests, and those who oppose it will now win under the leadership of Trump.

"But you are an asshole if you think migrants coming to america are thieves"

Yeah, stop stuffing words in my mouth. I am making a comparison between two illegal activities. By your own logic, again, you would have been comparing illegal immigrants to illicit drugs. By the way, I'm not against migrants; I'm against ILLEGAL migrants.

"I oppose globalization because it is against America's interests, and those who oppose it will now win under the leadership of Trump"

okay explain to me why globalization is bad for Americans. lets start there. that's such a blanket statement and I don't even understand what you mean when you speak of "globalization". It makes it sound like you think trade with other countries is bad...

American isolationism worked out great leon. until it didn't. and it wont. you cant hide behind walls, guns, bigotry, and cut ties with the world. It isn't gonna work, we cant scale back to pre World War I economic policy.

@leon
1. orathaic and I, we're not the same person.

2. I referred to a fantasy story, but I don't think Trump's wall is not any less fantastic than Westeros' wall.

3. My logic goes as follow. If you just keep trimming the twigs of the tree, but keep letting water and sun to nurish the tree, you'll never get rid of the tree. Want to solve illegal migration? try to find the root of the problem.

There's a difference between thiefs and illicit drugs, for the illicit drugs there are both, sellers and buyers, and both parts get what they want, it's a mutual deal based on agreement. Instead, no one agrees to be stolen.

The problem is not that laboral situation is bad in Mexico, and even worse in other central american countries. The problem is that, in many cases, there's no laboral situation at all, all there is is violence and misery. So, people will keep flowing massively. They don't mind to be killed by mexican mafias that extort them brutally, or by the already brutal border patrol; there won't be wall nor border patrol brutality to stop them, cos they come from the very hell. And as long as there are gringos ready to hire them, they'll keep seing US as the only way out of hell.

I don't say that you'd do bad reinforcing security, what I say is, that unless you pretend to invade Mexico and establish apartheids worse than Nazi ghettos (probably that's what you'd really like), no security measure will be anough, ALONE, to solve the problem.

I also am against illegal alien migration so a wall is fine with me.
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
I am for enforcement of the law and keeping the border secure, but a wall is not even marginally cost efficient, so it will never be okay with me.
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
If America wants to solve the cartel problem, a wall won't do it at all, by the way. There has to be some great degree of cooperation with Mexico and other governments of Central and South America, where a wall largely takes that sort of cooperation off the table.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

@leon: " By the way, I'm not against migrants; I'm against ILLEGAL migrants."

So you want all your migrants to have documents? Tell me which of the first settlers had documents? When they ignored any treaties that the British King had made with native tribes and expanded Westward, which documents did they use?

Are you aware that your entire nation is built upon undocumented migration? That the rules are made up to keep power in the hands of the powerful??
orathaic (1009 D(B))
26 Jul 16 UTC
And TrPadro has it when he talks about co-operation. The regional agreements needed to support and stabilise your neighbours, not a war on poverty, or a war on illegal migration, and deal to help address the root causes.

A global solution to the current migration crisis is desirable, but european countries are doing little better than Trump... Puttin up fences in Hungary to block entry into the EU (which may be illegal) and focrong migrants into boats where they will sink... Terrible stuff. Especially when the arms being used in Syria are being made abroad. Who are the biggest manufactures and exporters of arms??
ND (879 D)

lol are you comparing the current migration crisis to european colonization over five hundred years ago? That's dumb.

I also am against 'illegal alien migration', you know. Indeed, I think migration shouldn't be illegal at all. You are free to go anywhere you wanna go aren't you?
orathaic (1009 D(B))
26 Jul 16 UTC
@ND, so tell me. Why are some migrants legal and others illegal? If they 'steal' the land by killing the inhabitants is that better? More 'legal' because those who would reject their authority are dead? Tell me, what is your guiding principle?
brainbomb (290 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
So illegal immigration is very high on your list of concerns as a voter... tell me again what it is like to fear for your life. I suspect youve never fled in terror from a cartel or wandered across a desert.

Meanwhile back to the grown ups talking.
brainbomb (290 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
theres a much better way to combat illegal immigration that comes from a supply demand of drugs for example.

simply make pot legal. boom. cartels have no one to sell too because hard working citizens can open dispensaries. amazing concept...

simply replace the source

Undocumented immigration is a pretty substantial problem here that allows corporations and massive institutions in certain areas around the country to hire cheap labor, knowing they are illegal and can't do anything about it, and effectively enslave them in a similarly shitty life in the United States, the only difference being that they can send an envelope back to their families with a few bills in it. If you actually care about the plight of the displaced or whatever bleeding heart story you want, then you should absolutely support tightening immigration policy substantially and making citizenship more accessible, simultaenously cutting down on "illegal immigrants" and removing a major immoral business practice from their arsenal. Undocumented immigration is problematic on both ends and does little to remove the victim from their dangerous situation; rather, it simply puts them in a different type of dangerous situation that, like their old life, is extremely difficult to run away from. Citizenship is a real solution.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Jul 16 UTC
Brainbomb, you're underestimating the influence of the cartels. Besides, we can't unilaterally fix Mexico, just like we can't just magically fix the Middle East. We need to better our own system.
brainbomb (290 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
I watched a documentary about the drug trade a few years ago. It was called Breaking Bad. Its probably still out there on Netflix. but basically it was a great example of whats really happening in terms of smuggling and manufacturing. The cartels feed us our drugs. Our country is the most drug addicted on the planet. We should be concerned less about the sources and more about why people need to be so fucked up all the time.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I'm not saying you shouldn't try and help with that, but the cartels sell way, way more than marijuana and they sell to way, way more than just the United States, though we are typically their outlet around the world. As things stand, we are a long way from total legalization and thus a long way from truly damaging the cartels.

If you're into documentaries, watch Food, Inc. and pay close attention to the sections on Tyson, Perdue, and IBP and their hiring practices around the border.

"So you want all your migrants to have documents? Tell me which of the first settlers had documents? When they ignored any treaties that the British King had made with native tribes and expanded Westward, which documents did they use? "

And do you know what happened when Europeans came to the Americas? It utterly destroyed Native American society, and illegal migration will do the same to USA.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Jul 16 UTC
Leon, we aren't at risk of being outgunned by immigrants nor are we at risk of contracting massive diseases leading to a pandemic because of those immigrants. Ora's comparison between European colonization and current migration is utter shit, which, by extension, means that yours is as well.
leon1122 (190 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
You know, one of the most deciding factors in the success of European settlers was the rapid increase of their population. The same is true for Latinos in the US, especially for recent arrivals.
leon1122 (190 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
Have you watched the recent riots by advocates for illegal immigration at Trump rallies? Did you watch them vandalize cars and beat attendees? And you think they aren't a danger?
principians (881 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
"nor are we at risk of contracting massive diseases leading to a pandemic because of those immigrants"
Considering the vaccination deniers, I wouldn't be so sure... in Mexico the Health Secretary enforces vaccination, but don't know what happens in Nicaragua.
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
"You know, one of the most deciding factors in the success of European settlers was the rapid increase of their population. "
As well as the drastic decrease in Native population due to European disease that we are immune to. In fact, that's most of it.
TrPrado (461 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC

Also, protesting Trump isn't the same as advocating people to immigrate illegally.
leon1122 (190 D)
26 Jul 16 UTC
The stability of a country is dependent on its constituents. The US has been quite stable compared to its neighbors to the south, but allowing people from those countries to enter unchecked will make the US the same as Latin American countries.
