Some of these have really gone on quite long. No matchup should take more than a week, barring pauses.

what do you think guys, wouldnt it be better to get the player with the most SC based on both games instead of doing 3 rounds to find the player moving to the next round (at least for the next tournament)?

No. It changes how you're playing if you have a secondary goal that isn't winning. With the tiebreaker, you still have to win a game. Saying it's simply a matter of the random assignment is underselling the necessity for skill.

well you always would go for a win as it would mean a maximum of SCs. thus if you do not go for a win the other might have an advantage. if you re france you also go for a win or at least for as many SCs as possible. dont see the difference here to the current aim.
winning with france is definetely requiring more skills than with france and thus if you get in a final random match with 2 equally good players the one with france is getting a disadvantage

I'd rather draw France in a tiebreaker. France has won plenty of tiebreakers. It's not as simply biased as you're making it out to be.

Take the scenario where player A has won game one as Austria. Player B tried to fight along the stalemate line, foregoing England entirely, and ended up with only nine centers. Now, in the other game, Player A no longer needs to fight to win. They can simply go collect easily attainable centers. As long as they get ten before B gets 18, which is pretty easy, they win. Player B's strategy becomes winning with a ridiculous number of extra centers or taking centers from A while avoiding getting 18 too early. None of these are strategies you'd see in a normal 1v1.

Speaking as someone who keeps having to play tiebreakers, I like the third game rule.

Yes, there should be no question about needing an actual game for the tie-breaker, as ghug pointed out. The problem I have with the tie-breaker game is that France wins as a result of a draw. In my opinion, it's actually really easy for France to draw. Just focus north, and ignore Tunis for the most part. If you're not committing fleets south into Italy, it becomes fairly simple to secure Berlin, Munich and StP. In my opinion, in event of a draw in game 3, it should go to another randomly placed game 4. That way people actually need to win the tie-breaker.

Agreed fully with PF there. Honestly if Austria can't find a way to win quickly and somehow still prevents the inevitable French grind to 18, that's a more impressive feat in my mind.

@bo, In my 3rd game mof the set where I was eliminated from the tourney would have been a 17/17 draw, but instead of playing it out I, as Austria, just held to end the game. It would have been a draw had I not conceded, knowing that a draw as Austria in game 3 = a loss of the round.

I agree with ghug and PF, though. France wins the long game, Austria wins the short game. Seems like that's how it goes.

While I agree that another tiebreaker game would be more balanced, I limited it to three so that there is a limit on the amount of time a round can take. A lot of the sets are already on a much slower pace than I anticipated, and if some of these sets did go to the 4th game the tournament would take much, much longer than I want it to.

France winning draws isn't ideal, but it's the best way we can resolve it while keeping time in mind.
