To answer your question, it would have been less racially charged had you used "goon" or "hitman" (although it would have been equally inaccurate)... words gain meaning through their use and "thug" in the USA clearly has racist connotations.

With respect to Richard Sherman, I don't understand all the vitriol. Sherman uses trash talk like Ali did - he successfully gets in opponent's heads and throws them off their game. In his postgame interview, he is clearly in control of the situation - he doesn't use profanity and looks into the camera the whole time. There is really no basis to call him a "thug": high school salutatorian, Stanford graduate, started his masters degree, never been suspended or fined by the NFL. He plays aggressive press coverage but he's not a dirty player. He has also been the best corner in he NFL over the past two years by basically any metric and is a leader of the league's best defense.

1. I think spent the last 100 posts or so saying I didn't mean anything racist and don't understand how that term is racist in this context so...really, what else do you want me to say? That I understand it can be racist? I don't, not in THIS context--as Draug pointed out, the word refers back to an Indian origin...so I fail to see how that's a derogatory term for blacks. Show me otherwise, and I'll reconsider.

2. Again, to me, thug = goon = hitman. I've said repeatedly that's the context *I* used that word in, so either give me a reason why that context isn't valid or else accept the context I used that word in and leave me be.
