I have a player that will be out for a month of the tournament, but would like to continue after that. Would anyone be willing to take over his games until he comes back? Otherwise I will have to replace him. Let me know, here or email me to [email protected]. Thanks!

Seeing suspicious behavior in game title 'Anone game' gameID=54780 looks like a Russian/German alliance in an anonymous game with no messaging... can the mods check this out and reassure me. Thanks.

longest games
Hi, I'm a player in Wittlesbach Interruption and we are on Spring 1916. Since I've started playing online Diplomacy I've noticed most games end around 1907 give or take a year. We're at 1916 and the leading player has only 11 SC. We are also on our third leader in this game. Anyone else play a very long game?

Regular reports of cheaters in games posted on the forum
Here's a little bit of advice for all the new / inexperienced guys out there. If you do your homework before or at the start of a game, you don't have to worry about joining these types of games becoming a problem. What I mean by "doing your homework" is to check the profile of the guys with whom you're playing (so long as it isn't an anonymous game). Here are some things on what to look for:

did the zero SC survive get fixed or do you have to have a unit to get it?
I just took a nations last SC for the win, but they got eliminated. I physically took it in the spring forcing a disband so I'm guessing you either have to have a unit to get the survive or the problem was fixed.

Good games to all in Group C.Shot myself in the foot in game #one where I ordered both MAO and Mar to Spain.Everyone jumped all over me quickly.Down hill all the way.
@ all in Group C-Did you all know that the same player was France in first two games and adjust your strategy in second because of my quick exit in game 1 over to game 2 knowing that whoever was France in both would have little chance of advancement in tourney.
On a side note when I left for work the day the tourney started there where still two players to join each game and when I came back all players in all three games had ready to go to next phase entered. If they where smart and studied the board they would know that one player was France in two games and Italy in the other. Not knowing the players true name but his postion in each game.I think this would be an advantage to smart players who know there postion and could remember the outcome of each game and adjust there play to try and advance.
I wish that tourneys like this could have almost a live game feature where they don't start till set time instead of when last player joins. This would at least give the players that have jobs and lifes a chance to go about there routine and know when the games where set to start and be around or have internet access so that there postion in a group of games wouldn't be given away.

I honestly didn't try to figure out who was playing what country, and the first week went so fast that it was impossible to try and figure out when orders were placed. I tried to stagger when I joined games, and when I finalized orders, so my countries wouldn't be obvious. I guess I'd have to ask you guys if I pulled it off.

When I saw Eng open to the Channel in Game 2, I figured a strong move against Rus in the fall would show my desire to ally with him. I really didn't want to help him too much against you though, because we were having success in the east, and I feared a stab if he gained the MAO too quickly The stab came anyway, but he couldn't take the Iberian first to get the units he needed to really stick it to me.

There were four days to join the games. I figured that would allow people enough time, but I think giving players at least a days notice before games are created would be a good idea.

I am up for starting round 2 around New Years. And I also staggered when I submitted orders in a faint hope of confusing someone other than myself, and I doubt I succeeded.

Congrats doofman on the group A solo. jcbryan, If only RUH had supported BUR-MUN on the last one!!!

Anyhow, my sincere apologies for the NMR that caused Germany to lose MUN. BUt even then it was impossible for Austria to solo until Italy started throwing him dots left right and center, which I felt was thoroughly unsporting. This is frustrating because this game was going to be my one big chance of confirming myself in the next round. Well...I hope Barn3tt has a good enough explanation because right now I am seething.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
And if it wasn't clear from above, let me express how thoroughly dismayed I am by how the last 5 turns (all of which occured within the last 2 hours) were played by Italy. This is quite a bummer for someone who enjoys good WTA games...I can't understand what could be strategic about throwing a solo in this tourney unless you knew the identities of the players involved.
doofman (201 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Yeah thanks Ava and well Played everyone
I was surprised by Barnett, I was about to draw and then decided to take Venice and see what happened, if it shook everything up and allowed me through Germany or something.. But then that happened so :)
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Ava, this is your own doing. What was your goal? If it was a four way then, why on earth would you keep hammering away at me. I offered you supports in a sign of peace. Austria was the only player to not click draw and his only route of expansion was through me. I knew that and kept pulling back to try and defend myself, but you kept trying to land in Tuscany. What I knew that I couldn't do was fight both of you at once. I wanted a 4-way, but was determined that it would not end in a 3-way as that would threaten my progression in the tourney. I destroyed my army in Con and expected you to support me as a sign of friendship, but you kept hammering away. I never felt like I could trust you not to eliminate me in the end.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
Well let's be clear here. I was attacking you only because it was a stalemate and didn't matter anyway. When you destroyed CON, was I supposed to go all lovey dovey on you? I panicked and wet my pants thinking you were some crazy noob who didn't understand WTA...so no of course I was going to try and attack you harder. Even after that ROM and NAP were the 17th and 18th for Austria...even if you had sat there and let my fleets take over I'd have come in and supported your units there until we forced Austria to draw. Lame logic, Barn.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
It wasn't a stalemate. It did matter. It tied up all my armies save Con. There's no way I could defend against both of you.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
Sure, but there was a way in which you could concede and yet hold the final remaining centers for the solo and thus be a part of the 4wd. By closing your mind off to this possibility you failed to play this game to its potential. And may I remind you that we enjoyed peace until you moved your fleets against me after finishing off Turkey. There's no reason you couldn't have gone after Austria instead!
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
Allow me to experience complete failure of understanding here, but how exactly can you even suggest that *your* throwing a perfectly avoidable solo to doofman, and guaranteed survival in a 4wd is *my* doing?
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
I had a long standing alliance with Austria. My move on you was half-hearted with 2-3 of 7 units. The rest were guarding against an Austrian solo. Perhaps I should have had them just sit, but I feared that that would cause Austria to turn on me. You sent 5 fleets and two armies at me. If this game was not within the context of a 3 game series, I would have certainly gone for the draw. You pushed for a 3-way rather than settling for an easy 4-way. Sorry, Ava...
TBroadley (178 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
I can start Round 2 (assuming I'm in it) at any time, trip.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Why was my survival guaranteed? What moves of yours demonstrated any guarantee? How many times have you cut a small power out of a draw? I've done it a lot.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
@Barn - To be clear, I wasn't pushing for the 3 way at any point. I was initially defending against you, and later bringing the armada as a contest of strength, but it wasn't really doing anything. If you'd just let VEN sit and supported it with TUS I'd have simply stopped convoying. It seems that the convoy attempts of MAR-TUS caused you to believe i was going for a 3 way and made you feel the need to throw not one, not two, but SIX SCs to Austria. Let me ask you...even if I succeeded with this convoy, how was I supposed to make you go down even one unit...given that you had me stalemated otherwise. I don't get it.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
For pete's sake Barn, you were at 7 SCs you were hardly a 'small' power. Maybe you were small after throwing six of those away...but until then I'd say I was simply poking my dick around where I saw holes. We were on opposite alliances...what was I supposed to do? Send you lovebirds?
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Once 3 of four players clicked draw we were no longer on opposite alliances.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Yes, I was at 7, but a very precarious 7- Because I pulled my forces over to you, my 3 centers in Turkey were doomed. How could I hold those? Venice was lost and Tunis would have fallen to you. As the game progressed, I'd be left with Naples and Rome.
doofman (201 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
Well it was interesting.. I was getting frustrated with the stalemate lines drawn up and I was about to draw seeing no way forward with your battles or mine with Germany and France.. I expected to take Venice and then have Italy turn all it's forces on me where I would have immediately agreed to the 4wd.. However I can understand Barnett's behaviour to a degree, I think it was more born out of frustration at your moves throughout the game Ava.. But yeah it did result in a walkover pretty much for me in the end.. Whoever was Germany, well fought out in the end too
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
It is hard to explain in fullness until the other games are concluded.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
08 Dec 10 UTC
Well Naples and Rome were important and I'd have supported them...wth barn you of all people know that a draw with 1 center is as good as a draw with two or a draw with seventeen.
Barn3tt (41969 D)
08 Dec 10 UTC
OK, so next time we're in a game facing a large power, I'll hammer away at you until you're reduced to two and expect your full cooperation. :) lol
