What do you think? Personally I think militarily the axis had no chance in with the historical alliances, but I think if the Axis could have taken different diplomatic steps I think it could have been possible.

Most Useless Game Option
The site developers have done a great job on this site - and this is no slight on them. In view of the new 1v1 games, one option looks pretty funny for those games - "Hidden Draw Votes." Any others people have noticed?

Here is the sign-up thread for chapter XXVI of the popular forum game of "Mafia". I will be the lead GM with support from my co-GM, your good buddy Chaqa.

@Brainbomb: Yes. Players must post at least once in the thread during the night phase. This rule is intended to stop people Guakking.

Peterlund's tool will come in particularly useful for this.

What will the penalty be if anyone forgets to post N1? Thats 25 people presumably. What will you do if 11/25 fail to post N1, N2 and N3... would you modkill 11 ppl?

GM NOTES:

1. If someone does not meet the "must post" rule either at night or during the day, and they have not contacted Chaqa or myself to notify us that there is a problem, or to request a replacement, they will be modkilled, yes.

2. There are 26 players. If at the first EoN, 11 of them have "forgotten" to post and haven't asked for a replacement or notified us of a problem, then 11 people would be modkilled, yes.

I have repeatedly posted in this thread to draw attention to the rules. If people get modkilled because they are lazy or forgetful that is their problem.

I will also be PMing every player tomorrow, as previously noted with a reminder of the start time, and a link to the rules. Nobody has any excuse not to be aware of the rules.

Jamie, rather than being so dismissive and assholish like you unfortunately always are, how about you consider:

a) asking someone to substitute into a position late in a game is asking them to read the entire game and answer more for things their predecessor did than things they actually did.
b) a few games ago, I was substituted late into the game for reedeer after he went to the hospital. A day before, a VT was modkilled. I subbed into a more important role. It was inherently unfair to me and for some reason town didn't catch on that I was subbed in for mafia instead of town because mafia would have gone down to 1 if reedeer were modkilled, whereas town would have simply been short a VT.
c) taking over a position later in a game generally leads to lowered participation because nobody wants to read 80 pages before even getting to post.

Answer how, particularly with regard to my first two points, it makes sense to allow subs to join a game so late instead of modkilling.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
@Bo_Sox48: You should have considered your question more carefully. As you originally wrote it, it did indeed make no sense, like I said. I now see what you mean. I actually assumed you were being flippant and silly. Note that what you said was, I quote:

"Can we enact a policy that anyone who does *not* specifically request to be replaced be automatically modkilled following, say, D2?"

Literally interpreted, that would mean that if, following D2, there were still, let's say, 20 players alive, all 20 of them would have the choice of asking for a replacement (even if they wanted to continue) or being modkilled.

That would of course be silly, so I thought you were being silly.

Now that you've articulated your question properly, my view is that if someone requests a replacement after D2, the substitute will be assured that they do not have to take up the role - and indeed should only do so if they really want to. If none of the subs want to come on board at a late stage, that's okay, and a modkill will result.

Is that okay?

For point a, yes. How about point b?

If/when brainbomb threatens to quit mafia and/or webDiplomacy, can you automatically modkill him?

GM NOTES:
@ Bo_Sox: To avoid that situation I will do everything I can to treat the replacement of a VT with the same seriousness as the replacement of a PR.

I do take your point on board (and apologise for originally thinking you were being flippant). I will see if my co-GM Chaqa has an opinion on this matter.

@ Brainbomb: I don't understand why you are asking the same question again with a different number. Of course, the answer is the same. Let me make it as clear for you as I can:

If 26 players fail to post N1 (in the event of a no-lynch, etc), and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 26 players will be modkilled.

If 25 players fail to post N1, and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 25 players will be modkilled.

If 24 players fail to post N1, and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 24 players will be modkilled.

If 23 players fail to post N1, and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 23 players will be modkilled.

If 22 players fail to post N1, and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 22 players will be modkilled.

If 21 players fail to post N1, and none of them has requested a replacement or informed the mods of a problem, then 21 players will be modkilled.

....etc.

Jamiet99uk (865 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
It's ok, I just hope it's clear. I mean let's be honest, if NOBODY posts in the thread AT ALL during N1 then there is clearly a serious problem with the game.
ND (879 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
wait we have to post at night now?
yes....have you not been reading any of the GM updates>
ND (879 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
I've looked at this thread a few times since sign up but I haven't really read it or anything.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
01 Jan 17 UTC
A lot of people probably aren't reading this thread. A note by PM of rule changes is quite helpful.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
@ND: I suggest you check the rules. I've posted the link several times.

There are a few changes - mainly the fact that the "must post / must vote" requirement for this game includes a requirement to post at least twice during the day, at least once during each night, and as usual a vote each day.

The other notable change is the rule about conceding the game - this wasn't my innovation, it was introduced at the instruction of the Mafia Oversight Council.

You will note I have also added a reference to the "do not +1 other players' posts" rule which has been accepted as a rule for some time, but was not actually mentioned in the rules previously.
ND (879 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
Yeah GM needs to post a list of all his GM updates for me. And in the game post. Requiring a night post is a pretty big deal actually.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
@Bo_Sox: Yes, I agree. Everyone will receive a PM tomorrow (or later today, technically, as it's 2am here now) reminding them of the game start time and directing them to the updated rules.
ND (879 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
@Jamie: Yeah not everyone reads the sign up threads thoroughly after signing up. I don't. I am actually a bit concerned by these 'rules' like it is strategic sometimes not to post at night and to vote-unvote. You are actually limiting play styles and options players have. That type of micro-level management GM style is something I deplore.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
01 Jan 17 UTC
@ ND: I did previously post a list.

The three things I've referenced above are the only updated *rules* content of any note. There were also a couple of typos which I've corrected, and I've added a note to explain that "octothorpe" means "hash symbol" because nobody outside the USA really uses the term "octothorpe" - certainly before I started playing Mafia I had no idea that word existed.

1v1 ladder?
With the addition of 1v1 formats to this site, I thought we should have a formal ladder where people can challenge each other for bragging rights. There is one on Vdip. If there is enough interest, I'll just hijack their rules and setup and make it a thread here.
