An excellent question. In that case practically nothing would occur. The Doppelganger "gains" the target's powers. The traitor effectively has no powers to be gained other than immunity from the nightkill.

@Vashta: You can be certain that the Squawking Parrot and the Potato Slicer will not actually be in the game. I have stated this already. They were put in as a joke. I'm not mean enough to actually put such silly roles in the actual game.

do we have to read our role pm's before the start of the game? or can we, for example, play for 10 hours, then read it, and then continue the game with the new information?

@jamie - I guess a corollary to my other question... does doppelganging the traitor meant that the doppelganger loses the ability to use the mafQT, or lose the ability to vote on the NK? That would add an element of danger to the doppel ability..

Also, I'm sad that the potatoslicer/parrot might not be in the game. :( I think they should be.... :D

No one is under any obligation to read their role PM, however, be careful with that strategy as someone could note a change in behavior.

@Jamiet - Does Mafia (and traitor) know each mafia role D1 or just his teammates but not the roles?

Information, looking for fake claims, making fake claims, breadcrumb hints, the normal stuff.

@jamiet - ^ what Kak said. It's for information. If I roll town, it helps me evaluate PR claims. If I roll scum, it helps me fake PR claims. Either way, the players as a whole spend more time arguing about the claim, and less time second-guessing the GM's messages, because the generic messages being sent are in a standard format. If you don't want to pre-write PM's, I'd totally understand - that's a lot of work. You're usually a pretty thorough guy, so I actually figure you've got them sitting in a google doc somewhere already written up, which is why I asked. Carry on :)

I do not have template PM's written for every action that could be taken by every role, since some of the roles are not actually in the game. To satisfy your request would involve writing up "fake" template GM messages for roles which are not in the game - I'm not sure I have time for that.
