I used to play on playdip... Then I realized it was so much better over here :)

Another great feature on playdip is that you can choose retreat and build phases that are much shorter than the diplomacy phases; I find that much more in the spirit of the original Diplomacy game.

I have to completely disagree with redhouse on the messaging system. I used to play over there, before I joined web dip, and the reason I switched was because their messaging system drove me crazy.

I don't really like the map. But it is cool to have it listed how many armies and fleets the other powers have

The ONLY advantage on the messaging system I liked there was sending one message to multiple players at once. Being limited to 3 games for free was pretty wonky too.

I started over there. The huge difference between the two is the quickness of order resolution. At Playdip it takes 3 minutes or more which is huge for live games, so live gunboats over here are way better.

What is nice about Playdip's live games is that you can specify them for a number of hours live, after which they revert to whatever time schedule you like. This makes the 15minute turns doable (the only choice BTW) without scheduling your entire day for a live game.

Oh, and they do frown on making cheating accusations on the forum, but they don't handle it quite as strictly as here.

This thread makes me laughed out loud.
We all seem to have tried different diplomacy sites, and for one reason or another, we have converged here. I think only Vdip has us beat on the number of features, but as far as the messaging system, the way we enter movements, the ability to play back season by season, and oh yeah, the stiff competition, this site is king.
But I'm probably biased. :)
