Non-live "Live" gunboat game...
I am looking for a few players to play a non-live gunboat as if it were live. The honor system rules follow.

email reminders
Email reminders of deadlines would be good. I just started a game on here for the first time in 3 years and missed the deadline for the first move.

Really? Becuase if someone can't keep track of a 24 hour turn an email will help them out? Just sayin...play higher caliber games with higher caliber people who can, you know...TELL TIME...

I'd get a lot of emails, which I don't want.

One would presume that the emails would be optional.

I probably wouldn't use it either, but I'd think it could be useful for those who play games with longer phases.

Go and develop it yourself! But no new features are needed, we love the site as it is. Go fuck off with ideas, noone likes innovators here. Keep your ideas to yourself, we love living in the past!

It doesn't matter if it's optional, it's still new what we hate around here. I don't care it wouldn't affect me at all, it just useless to add to the site, since it's perfect already.

@krellin: thank you for being the first commenter in this thread and shoing the perfect example what I'm talking about. You just made my point.

My pleasure....I commented on this specifically because of your idiotic thread...duhhh....

Not to mention that it is a pointless silly idea.

Seriously....you can't keep track of turn phases without an email reminder? Youthink someone should give valuable FREE time to develop this code?

Why don't YOU take your free time, learn to code and do it? No...it's easier to bitch and complain and demand that others do it.

Go cash your welfare check and let us know when you are willing to pay a developer to do this.

AND THIS THREAD IS IN THE WRONG PLACE.
Doesn't your computer have a calendar program with an alarm feature?

Boys! Don't make me pull this website over and beat your asses with a DipStick! :-)

Seriously, the email feature has been discussed before. It is in consideration along with about 1000 other things.

@Mintz, welcome back, as you can see the forum is still the same as when you left. We do have some new features like world games and classic med games. Another new feature is the mute feature, by clicking on a players profile and pressing the speaker there you hide all their forum posts. You can undo this in the settings page if done by mistake.

@Mintz

This actually used to be a feature. I believe it was removed because it was placing too much strain on the server. We have a new server now, so maybe this is no longer an issue. I'd recommend you check out the Dev Forums to see if anyone has info. If not, you may want to email kestas directly to see how easy it would be to reimplement.

For what it's worth. Came back to this site for the first time in 3 years late last night (UK time). Signed up for a game which only 5 players registered before me. Went to bed, woke up, went to work had a very busy day. Came home, went out immediately to view a house we might be buying, came back home fed my son, did some drawing with him, then put him to bed. Then logged on to this site to find that I'd missed the deadline. Came on this forum to make a positive suggested and got bitched at by wankers. Thanks.

If I'd had an email reminder I might have found time to post my first move during lunch today. As it is I missed the deadline and now spoiled the game for the other 6 players. I don't see why someone would think this a stupid suggestion.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Well, I must say if you signed up for a game within the last 24 hours, then that really was on you. In general I'm for things that help avoiding missed phases, but you signed up for a game knowing your busy schedule the next day and knwoing only one more person needed to signup behind you for it to start and complain about it here? Sorry, not much sympathy from me for that bonehead stunt.

well, if you could check your email why couldn't you check the site??

That's not a busy schedule. That's called real life.
Fortress Door (1837 D)

well, if your real life is that busy all the time I would suggest going for 2 + day phases

"well, if you could check your email why couldn't you check the site??"

Well I woud have if I'd had a reminder to do so.

Mmm I'm curious to know if you have a reminder to check your email, then....
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Funny, I just make it a habit to check the site every morning and log a processing time in my Android for each of my games with a 15 minute warning if I haven't put in orders yet. Then I check again and lunch and at the end of the day.

Mintz - We are all busy. I'm a software developer with a family and a home, same as you on those last two. But I don't whine because I couldn't be bothered to remember my own calendar.
Mintz (177 D)
08 Oct 12 UTC
BreathofVega - Well my phone goes DING and a box pops up on my screen when an email comes in so in a sense - yes.

The thing is even if you think I'm an idiot for not checking the site. It would help people playing with idiots who forget to check the site from ending up in games where opponents go into CD so I don't know why you're bitching at the suggestion.
Fortress Door (1837 D)

I just think it is a waste of time to program at this moment. Interesting idea. Worth the time and effort of Kestas. No
Mintz (177 D)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Draugnar - well done you. You've obviously developed a habit of checking the site but there's always the possibility that you might forget isn't there. As I said I logged on for the first time in 3 years so it wasn't exactly at the top of my mind. I'm sure i'm not alone in missing a turn for forgetting to check the site. One person's mistake messes up a game for seven people.

@ Mintz: Do you have Microsoft Outlook?
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Oct 12 UTC
M intz - This is pretty much a one man show coding wise. He gets some help from a few volunteers here and there (like SleepCap/Oli) but Kestas is still the owner and the one responsible for keeping the site running smoothly. He is paid nothing as all the money that comes in from donations go towards the hardware and bandwidth that keeps it on the net.
BreathOfVega (597 D)
08 Oct 12 UTC
Mintz, seriously, if you rely too much on a reminder (and when I say "too much" I mean "enough to make you say that you missed your first phase just because nobody reminded you that you had just signed up for that game"), the solution isn't the reminder at all in my opinion, it's your organization we're talking and I do not want to offend you by sticking my nose in it.

If your phone did not go DING, you wouldn't forget to check your email, would you?

Your idea is interesting (and old), but saying "without a reminder I skip my turn becouse I forget to check the site" doesn't really help to take it seriously.

The Great Debate II: Thucy, dub, 2WL,dD_ShockTrooper vs.My Fellow Krellinists?
It seems as if we have a new wave of vocal and talented akrellinist thinkers, who certainly seem as willing as I to type on the matter, albeit from the other end--so, care to debate, say, 2-4 akrellinists vs. the same # of Krellinists, on a thread w/ a neutral moderator, we each give an opening statement in succession (say, 500-1000 words or less), one rebuttal per person, and then open it up for questions, side with the most +1s for their comments "wins?"
