What about metagaming when loosely defined as treating someone you played with before differently than someone you never played before?

If that is ok to a certain degree, what is the general rule of thumb? What about in the extremes of automatic alliances/attacks, based more on past games than the situation in the current game?

premeditated alliances are frowned upon, but you can't discount past experience. as long as you don't allign with the same people in every game you play with them, you're fine.

Also, a few more questions:

Why allow foul language in the forums?

Is playing for a draw, rather than a win, acceptable?

In anonymous games, are you allowed to mention usernames in anyway?

If you're not a fan of betting for rank then just ignore the points system. Almost everyone else does :p. As podium says, metagaming and using more than one account will get you booted. The only other thing worth mentioning is the unusual tradition of the site that if you end up in a game with someone called Octavious you are duty bound to let him win. Having done so you get awarded with up to 1000 bonus points and a 100% reduction in your webdip membership fee!

Personally, I think that the number of things people should 'never' be allowed to do should include 'shoving your own opinions down someone's throat and presenting them as undisputed and indisputable fact', but that's just me

Stupidity is much more destructive than profanity. I am fine if someone disagrees with me, but at least make logical arguments and listen to what I have to say.

I'd also like to point out that you're free to take the effort to set up a potty-mouth-free version of the site, as the software is GNUed.

wow... darwyn, draug... you guys need to pipe down. He's right about elitists. If you guys want more quality players to play, you need to not push them away when they ask questions. There are much calmer ways to handle new players, and if you keep replying the way you do, all you'll end up with is trolls all over the message boards just riling you guys up.

bb82, there isn't any harm in playing a game or two. If you run out of points, you will get refilled, automatically. The point system isn't really viewed as important on this site as much as the 'ghost rating'. More info on ghost rating can be provided, if you like (in the form of a url), but the quick version is that a mod/player (TheGhostMaker) has an algorithm that ranks all the players based on the level of competition similar to the system used in chess. So your rank depends on who you play and how you do more than the simple poker chip method that the point system provides.

True, fk, very true. And the fact that I'm at work on 2 hours sleep (was playing WoW all last night and well into the morning) probably has me a little extra sensitive.

I know what diplomacy is and I have a decent idea on the interface. So I don't need to 'try' a game.

What I needed to do was find out what kind of players are in this community. The forum will tell much about a community and will speak volumes as to the site in general, hence some of my questions. But all my minor questions/concerns became voided as soon as I got a whiff of the general stench of this community.

While I do agree that almost anything can be said in games, especially through private messages, I strongly disagree with allowing filth in the forums. It is only destructive to the community at large and seems to have created a pool of players that are wanting in more than one category, a community where trolls thrive.

Overall this is a dwindling community, thanks for letting me know the underlining cause. While I can’t predict the future, I can say with relative certainty that I won’t be playing here. Thanks again. Freedom of speech my tush :P.

Dwindling community? There's about the same amount of games going on here as at the start of the year on the join list. And the forums are just as used. I see no dwindling.
