I have a question.
I'm new to this game. My friends said it was really good so now i'm playing it. My only question is when you join an active game, and decide you want to leave, how do youi leave the game? I don't see any button that says leave or anything like that.

A question
Please don't flame or attack anyone else in this thread. Let's keep it happy, ok?

My friends and I have been playing on this site for many months now and we are still loving this game. Many of you have repeatedly played with each other, so hopefully this question will be relevant to some of you.

so this game (http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=13235) was a Gunboat game... so that means there was no talking.

what I want to point out to you is Russia... if you go through the game, you'll see he went down to 2, then came back up to finish in 2nd place with 11... now many of you newbies might think to yourself... "how impressive"... or "this guy is a great player".

but you'd be very very very wrong... this guy sucks. why? because this game is a WTA game... which means for getting "2nd place" he got a hopping big "LOSER" next to his name just as if he'd been eliminated... in fact, if one did not know that he was such a bad player, one might think he was a French multi intentionally throwing the game to the French.

now, I dont want to take away from the great play that France conducted throughout, he had some phenomenal moves (including that support for Lvp to Wal), nor that Italy NMR'd and CD'd in the end which was a very douchebaggy thing to do... but the Russian player was in a class of A**hole all his own...

now instead of railing and railing and railing... i'm going to let some of the other vets tell you nice boys and girls why he played so badly... so you dont think i'm doing this JUST to be vindictive... there is a real lesson to be learned here... on how to play this game better...

while we are waiting for our other vets to talk about Russia's idiocy, you are more than welcome to make fun of Draugnar all you like. =)
Akroma (967 D)

from what I would assume, looking at the way he kept attacking you in st.petersburg despite the turkish advance, I would say that at some point you somehow pissed him off, and that because of that france who was against you had a good arguement to make him do his bidding

don't call him an asshole. it's a game of diplomacy, and if you somehow offended him enough to no longer care about victory but rather care about making sure you lose, then it was probably your own fault.
Babak (26982 D(B))

its a gunboat game Akroma... and i disagree.. i dont think it was a piss-off thing... i think it was just him not having a clue how to play the game thing.
djbent (2572 D(S))

but Akroma, it was a Gunboat game. no talking. no convincing.

Well, I really apreciate Russian´s play, it make it a lot easier to get a win :-)
I guess Dingle going CD (he has problems, he also leave our TMG Masters game) don´t change the faith of the game, as at that point he can´t build units as I own her home SCs.
There is a point in the game, when Italy got a build on Venice and Russia move a fleet to Baltic, whn I thought: "this is it, we are going to a draw, and decide to prepare a staleline against Italy". But then Russia attack Italy and this give me the chance I need to get Italy out of position.
I have to say Babak impressed me with his defensive play: Tenacious, clever and always changing his moves, he gives me some lessons (I also did some tricky moves, but with the superiority of troops I have, he should have been out a lot earlier).
About Draugnar, I really don´t understand what is he doing, if he decide to avoid a solo, I guess he could have done so, just sending some fleets up north or supporting Eng or Italy.
Let him explain her play.

It was Draugnar. I'm putting my money on him getting pissed off. ;P hah, just playin.

thank you rdrivera... I was quite proud of my play in this game... and getting a survive in this was plenty for me... even in the last move, you should have used paris to go to gas, held with mar, and moved down to MAO... i was afraid you'd do that and eliminate me, but you didnt ;)

you had 2 REALLY impressive playes as wlel... one was the support to lvp to wal which I mentioned... if you had not done that, I would have had a build that turn and this game would have been completely different... amazing turning point, and very good play there... the other was the turn i didnt defend kiel I think...

it was a pleasure playing with you, and you really did deserve a good result... you played very well.

Between England and Italy, I was down to two and expected to die. At that point, my goal ceased to be about winning and became revenge. But I couldn't tell Babak when I figured out he was England as that would break the gunboat rules. I was just as glad to see rdr win as it would punish my opponents, little did I know when I started that those opponents would also take a hit to their GR, an added bonus for them.

Now, I ask, when presented with the idea of doing nothing and sitting, hoping that your former enemies can hold back the ne enemy at the gate, or going and getting a little revenge even though you know you can't win, which would you do? there was no way any of them would have allowed me in on a draw if I had sat on my ass doing nothing, so I was going to lose either way. I believe you should try to win, then draw, then survive, then influence. I couldn't win. There is no way they'd let me in a draw. So I got a survive AND I influenced to make certain my enemies couldn't do it again.

If this had been a real war, I would have happily become a vassal state to france like Austria was to Germany in WWII. Babak is just bitter that he got screwed and lucky he got to have 1 SC instead of being totally eliminated.

Thanks Babak, coming from you it´s a big compliment.
I am proud of my play too, that support was great (I guess right you will bounce walles to avoid a convoy), and I did some good moves against Italy too..
In fact, in last year I choose not to eliminate you as with Italy CD I don´t need more SCs and you really don´t deserve a defeat on this game.

In short, I guess next time you'll think twice about attacking someone into oblivion then expecting them to help out when you in trouble...

note to self: avoid playing with draugnar, he still has to grow up.
Babak (26982 D(B))
02 Oct 09 UTC
no dip-fool... after you got to nwy, there was no way for you to be eliminated... in fact, if you pay attention to the moves, you'll see that I intentionally let you back into nwy then swe ...

the reason you are an absolute idiot is because you think you didnt have a shot at the draw... you DID> in fact, you could have even gotten yourself to the point of eliminating ME and still being in the draw... but you are such an idiot that you dont even see that, even now.

you are SUCH a fool Draugnar... if I was next to you, I would shake you silly.

How you gonna do that? I only play anonymous, tourney, and League games.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Oct 09 UTC
@Draugnar
I can´t agree with you thinking. It was a gunboat, so how you are so sure you won´t be in a draw?
If you have stopped to attack Italy when you put a fllet on Baltic and build another fleet on north, you could be in a 4 or 3 - way draw, as I won´t have any way to fight against you three (I have decided to elimate England and leave Italy if needed as I will be in a better defensive position).
If you are needed to avoid a solo, you can easily get one spot in a draw, at least it´s what I think.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Oct 09 UTC
So I'm supposed to build a fleet, but I can't take any SCs to do that. Interesting concept, building without the supporting SCs...
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Oct 09 UTC
Come on Draugnar, you are better than that. When you got Den you choose to build an army on Mos, I remember that I was really happy (and surprised) with that.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Oct 09 UTC
My motivations (after nearly being eliminated):

See to it my enemies don't get a win (check)
See to it my enemies don't get a draw (check)
See to it my enemies get eliminated (fail, but tried)

Optional bonus goals:
Make amazing comeback (check)
Beat big power to 18 (fail, but try)

By my count, I completed three of five goals. And I had a bit of fun in the process. what it comes down to is motivation. I don't give a fuck about winning most of the time. I play to have fun. winning acn be fun, but I'd rather lose a game against a better opponent (and I don't deny being a lousy player, hell I got lucky to move up to the C-leagues) than win against a bunch of NMRs/CDs.

rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Oct 09 UTC
Ok, I give up.
I can´t agree with your motivations, but this is a free internet world I guess, and you can play the way you want, even a bad one.
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Oct 09 UTC
How about this motivation?

It's a fucking game. I play games to have fun. I had fun. I don't need to stress over if my fun means I or someone else loses. Don't want to play with me? Don't join any fucking anonymous games, play in any tournies I'm in, or be in the C-leagues this fall. Otherwise, you might end up playing with me.
Crazyter (1335 D(G))
02 Oct 09 UTC
I'll testify to anything to get you to join!!!

Seriously, I think Draugnar is one of the best tacticians I've seen. And he's real good on strategy too. But his strongest suit of all is deception.

P.S. I'm done rresponding to Babak's insults. He's the rat bastard who stabbed me under the guise of a Key Lepanto, so his opinion of me means more to my shit in the toilet than it does to me.

Anonymous\No Messaging Game
If one was to be playing in a Anonymous\No Messaging game, is it fair to assume that there would be no support hold\move actions with other counties as that would entail coordinating orders with another country in which there is “no messaging”, right?

Points - draws and wins
So, it seems like a win is much better than a draw, but a 17-17 draw has essentially the same point payout as a win. I had a slight idea about this. It may have been proposed before, but I am curious what people think. Whenever a pot is made, 25%(or some percent) of it is put aside as a lump sum. In a draw, that lump sum isn't paid out. In the event of a win, the lump sum goes to the winner, as well as the points per supply center or winner take all amount normally awarded.
