Would I get banned if I supported a teammate in an Anonymous/no-chat game?
just wondering I'm in a tactical spot to do so but it seems super suspect and unfair almost

Congratulations to Team Cascadia on winning the 2016 WebDip World Cup! It has been a long and interesting tournament (but much shorter than it's predecessor) with its share of bumps along the way. I would like to thank Yoyoyozo especially for helping me out along the way, as well as everyone else for participating and making the tournament run as smoothly as it did.

Thank you again to all the teams and players who made this happen. I can't update the tournament site from mobile, but I should have the final standings fixed by evening.

Whew thank god, I talked a WHOLE LOT of shit before this tournament started about how dominant we were going to be and how we were the "Mount Rushmore of Online Diplomacy" so was not looking forward to the riducule that would have followed if we came up short.

Fun fact: Both the 2016 and 2017 champions from the World Diplomacy Championships (FTF stuff) were also Cascadians.

The takeaway being if you want to get good at this game, move to the Pacific NW.
Congratulations, I guess :-P.

Well done Congrats, Cascadia.

Also congratulations Dixie on being the first losers. A title I chastised opponents for seeking after I shall now wear proudly.
But for real:

❆ Great job to Goldie and Yoyo for organizing and running this tournament. That was a very large and thankless service to the entire community here. Quite an undertaking, and you guys did a great job.

❆ Thank you to all of the interesting and talented people I got to play with in my first foray into the Public Press realm. My two tournament games were some of the more interesting diplomacy games I've played, just based on lucking out and getting to play against great competition.

❆ Thanks to ghug and Village Idiot who simultaneously recruited me to join the greatest Diplomacy team ever assembled. I don't know how the other teams operated, but Team Cascadia worked together and kept up a healthy dialogue throughout the year-long tournament. And that was a fun dynamic.

❆ All hail Cascadia!

Was a lot of very exciting games we participted in with amazing competition, but I'd like to point out a few highlights from Team Cascadia's journey in this tournament.

Massive respect for MadMarx in the Full Press 2 finals game who by all rights should have gotten anywhere near 18 having started a very bold solo run back in 1908 and still managed to take on a board of very impressive players by himself for nine years getting all the way up to the 17 mark before the stalemate took him down. That man is a tank!

Anybody who has ever had any interest in playing a Public Press game should study the Group C game - http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=183887 where Balki put on an absolute clinic on how to do well. I especially enjoyed the verbal sparring between Balki and Goffy. His second game was equally entertaining with Conq, Goldie, and Gen Lee all stuffed into the same corner. That was just delightful mayhem.

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about the Full Press 1 game i got to participate in, such a fun group of players. Socr Diss pretends he didn't enjoy it, but he secretly loved it.

I know not everybody embraced it, but I absolutely loved the meta-ness of this tournament and completely immersed myself into all of it. Highly recommend this tournament next year to anybody who hasn't yet participated in it, it's a blast. Tremendous applause for those who ran this and whoever came up with this idea to begin with.

I'm going to thoroughly miss all our behind the scenes talks with my Cascadian brothers. It's going to make it very hard to revert back to wanting to rip their hearts out and bask in their blood. Now i have to go completely re-invent myself because we know each others secrets FAR too intimately now.
I guess it was pretty fun.... you know me too well VI!

The world cup was really great, and I only joined at the end. Hopefully I'll join from the very beginning next time

Congratulations Team Cascadia!

Big thanks to Goldfinger for organizing a great tournament, and to Yoyo for directing the finals.

It was tons of fun playing and strategizing with the MidAtlantic crew :)

I learned a lot from my first PP which could be applied in the second. Big kudos to all who survived… unfortunately it only carried us to third place in the tournament. The metagaming was unevenly balanced since the regular webdip users figured out who everyone else was (I think) while newbies like me had no clue who was on which team. Still an interesting game on its own merits!

You did well, Germany. I'm actually pretty amused because you played this game much like the Germany from the last world cup did. I was getting deja vu multiple times through this game

Doesn't hurt being familiar with the competition but there was also some advantages to being an unknown. In meta environments the unknowns can more easily fly under the radar.

Congratulations to Team Cascadia!

Over the next few days, I'll be giving out point rewards as follows:
500 D to members of Cascadia
100 D to members of the other teams in the finals.

So far, I've gotten through Mid-Atlantic and Cascadia. I'll try to get the others done tomorrow.

Would anyone be interested in a -whoever wins grills- steaks diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all have a potluck some amount of roasted veggies on a grill, and some ribeyes. We go to a ftf party, then get naked.

Stakes Diplomacy Game
Would anyone be interested in a tent stakes diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all chicken-wire together some tarps into a tent sitting in the backyard of a trusted party, and fasten it to the ground with tent stakes. The pay-out is that if you solo, everybody else has to sleep out in it at the end of the game, with Krellin visiting the tent to wake y'all up every morning.

I just had a thought on a game where you can't support any of your moves (including support holds). I was thinking this would encourage alliances more and just make for an interesting game

Has there been an actual WW1 simulation/approximation of Diplomacy?
Meaning orders & outcomes that best represent the events of WW1, which I assume would result in some sort of draw in the end, beginning either 1901 or 1914? I'm sure it's been done, but I'm a curious newbie.

Would anyone be interested in a cash stakes diplomacy game? The notion is that we'd all wire some amount of money to a trusted party, who would pay it out according to DSS at the end of the game.

What do you all think about Faustian stories?
Diplomacy is a great playground for turning on friends for personal advantage, and I'm pretty sure everybody might compromise their held virtues for a little harmless gain in most places of their lives. Do you all think Faustian narratives are on point the more we all trod into the great 21st century, or is the devil obsolete and unversed in the digital age?

Leaving the grey arrow
Is there any bigger asshole than the guy who's doomed to defeat and puts in his moves with a grey arrow so that everyone has to wait a day or more each phase? Of course everyone goes out of town sometimes or is unable to get to the site for some reason, but someone who does it faithfully every turn should be banned. It's the behavior of a crybaby.
