Why is Terrorism the only time people feel a visceral response?
I noticed recently there was an incident where a man crashed his car into multiple people injuring many and killing someone. But because it was not terrorism, people did not seem motivated in the same manner against alcoholism as they would have if he were a terrorist. If he had indeed been from any Muslim country at all, and also under the influence of alcohol, one has to wonder if people would just automatically assume it was a terror plot.

American reporter arrested for asking questions to Trump HHS Secretary
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/business/media/reporter-arrested-tom-price.html

Freedom of the press is an integral part of the 1st amendment. Just wondering how rightwing media handled or ignored this story about Dan Heyman, the reporter that was arrested for asking persistent questions to Tom Price, HHS Secretary.

The charges might be ludicrous, but if he actually gave a damn about getting answers to his questions, he wouldn't be trying to push through security guards and yelling while running past government offices.
Hauta (1618 D(S))
22 May 17 UTC
The charge was for "willful disruption of state government processes". If he tried to push through security guards, wouldn't the charge be assault? Seems like a rather exotic charge...just sayin'.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
22 May 17 UTC
I don't know what he did or didn't do, but it is obvious that he was yelling down the hall during a government session at two people who had security. Security told him to bug off and he didn't. Charging him with anything is stupid, but that's not how you get answers from someone to your questions.

So, if it happened fer realz, it'd be a problem, right? Also, if it's not real, what punishment should the NYTimes suffer? After all, we don't want newspapers just making shit up. One more thing, if Obama's HHS secretary did this to a hard hitting journalist, any problem? Thoughts?

Trump administration just solved the "press problem":
http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/21/media/saudi-arabia-tillerson-press-conference/index.html?category=media

They banned American journalists from covering Tillerson's press conference. Only foreign journalists allowed. Where are the conservative free speech guys on this forum? Crickets?
ND (879 D)
23 May 17 UTC
That's fine. The American journalists are 90% or more aligned with the Democratic Party. They have a monopoly on information and basically run the Democratic Party so either Trump needs to disallow CNN, NYT, MSNBC, etc from having press passes to his administration and include more alternative sources like Breitbart, Blaze, etc or just discontinue press briefings to American journalists and hand out a daily press statement to them.

They are a raving bunch of liars and disinformation propagandists for the Democrats. Time to do something different.
Hauta (1618 D(S))
23 May 17 UTC
ND, but trump didn't even let in American media from the right. You don't care if conservative media is disallowed access but Tass is allowed?
DammmmDaniel (100 D)
23 May 17 UTC
I fail to see how these sources help your situation Hauta for every conservative news outlet there are 4-5 liberal ones...... All I am trying to say is that pulling a source from a liberal network having us tell you it shouldn't be validated then pulling 4 more stories from 4 more liberal news networks really isn't solidifying your point. Can you not understand the frustration of having almost all of the media after your skin? I very well understand that most of the time Trump makes less than ideal choices. But for every time he is wrong the media crucifies him. You cannot deny that.

Anti-Trump person: gives opinion, citing an article from the New York Times, which is highly respected among anyone that isn't clueless, though it sometimes leans left, especially so when the leader of the right is constantly attacking its very existence.

Trump drone: THE NEW YORK TIMES IS TOO LIBERAL, I NEED SOMETHING CONSERVATIVE TO READ OR ELSE I CAN'T FUNCTION.

Anti-Trump person: provides other credible sources, including one from an openly conservative site.

Trump drone: NO I STILL NEED MORE CONSERVATIVE FEED ME SEYMOUR FEED ME

@bo

the problem was the OP

"Freedom of the press is an integral part of the 1st amendment. Just wondering how rightwing media handled or ignored this story about Dan Heyman, the reporter that was arrested for asking persistent questions to Tom Price, HHS Secretary."

this post draws a straight line between Dan Heyman asking questions, and the government arrested him for doing so.

except he was arrested for barging past security.

there is freedom of press in public areas, but in places restricted from the public, you must be cleared before you can enter. furthermore, some places where you are legally allowed to be, have a different standard of conduct, of which if you violate it, you will be expelled from the building.

the fact that he was arrested seems excessive, i'll be the first to admit, and Trump wanting to redefine libel law is a horrifying political prospect, but for this situation, there is only smoke, and no fire.

the charges:

"Heyman was jailed on the charge of willful disruption of state government processes"

they're not attacking what he did, but the context in which he was acting. arrest seems too much, but apparently they had already been “forced to remove him a couple of times from the area,”

all in all the washington post perhaps is more to the left, but they've given us facts the facts here. they'll interpret them one way, but frankly this is an extreme non-issue.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/05/10/west-virginia-journalist-arrested-after-asking-hhs-secretary-tom-price-a-question/?utm_term=.f668cc3dfcd0

@DammmmDaniel, I don't deny that the MSM crucifies Trump, although "crucifies" is an odd choice of words of course -- Trump is no Jesus. Many of his wounds are self-inflicted as you alluded to.

If the issue is subjective, then it sure does seem unfair why one side is so favored. But if the issue is *objective*, there needs to be ONE TRUTH. And that is where I have a real problem with the right wing.

Example: Remember that Paul Ryan story a few days ago where someone said that they though Trump was being paid by the Russians and these top Republicans all had a laugh over it and then Ryan said something like, "No one talks about this conversation, ok?". Well, when Ryan was first confronted with the story, he flat out denied it. Then the reporter said that they have the transcript -- So, Ryan no longer denied the story but he did say that the transcript was wrong. Then the reporter said, "well, we have the audio too" -- So, Ryan said, "Oh, that was a joke [what we said on audio]". It's that kind of dishonesty that infuriates me.

Now, you can hate Hillary all you want, but her lies are so much more discrete than this example.
Hauta (1618 D(S))
23 May 17 UTC
@DammmmDaniel, another example just occurred. Fox News has finally retracted the Seth Rich story. So, for days they peddle a lie in the face of MSM opposition, and then after the damage is done (by misinforming the right wing), they retract the story. What a disservice to the nation!

On how PPSC scoring does not encourage players to throw games
In our recent discussion (threadID=1432961), many mods and fellow pillars of the community claimed that when you have two Great Powers in a game that have between 12 and 16 supply centers, one of these Great Powers has a (D) points-incentive to throw the game. I disagreed and this puzzled my fellow users, but only Lethologica took the bait when I explained my position. Here it is again:
