Hey guys
As you may have noticed, over the past few weeks there has been a significant rise in incidents on the forums that have required moderator intervention. Personal attacks and abuse have become the norm and discussions have become extremely unfriendly in tone. The moderator team is constantly striving to make this site as great as possible; and we do not believe that such personal attacks advertise or represent our site in any positive manner. As a result, we have as a team agreed on an updated set of forum rules to clamp down on some of the worst excesses being displayed. Whilst discussion will of course always be welcomed and encouraged on our site; we are not a site that tolerates the harassment or bullying of our members, and henceforth we shall take a zero tolerance approach to any such behaviour. This zero tolerance approach shall include any personal attacks or harassment, and any forms of bigotry displayed. Sexism, racism, homophobia, and any other forms of bigotry are unwelcome on webDiplomacy as they both hamper discussions and threaten our reputation. Of course, we do not expect people to always agree on things - and we welcome all constructive and respectful debates. What we do expect is for people to behave with civility, and to treat other users in a respectful manner.
Myself and bo_sox48 (credit to him there) wrote most of these rules; but they have been worked on and agreed on by the entire team and by our benevolent co-owner, zultar. We believe this will make our site a more welcoming and open place, for the betterment and enjoyment of all users.
I have also reformatted the rules page itself to condense some of the information on it and update the policies & tournament sections to match how they are already enforced. This includes the recent ruling that TD's will not in future be allowed to play in any of their own tournaments on the site. The Site Rules section is unchanged from before, but we always recommend being fully familiar with it :)
As always, any moderator decision can be appealed by emailing
[email protected], where an administrator will review the decision and get back to you with their conclusions.
We hope that over time everyone can embrace these changes, and look forward to the continued success of webDiplomacy!
