Folks, please imagine and recollect in your minds the experience of eating a freshly baked, hot chocolate chip (or oatmeal raisin) cookie, savoring it, and washing it down with a cold glass of milk. Now, if you still say that cake pie or brownies are better, I pity you, because you clearly don't have such a memory, or perhaps you associate that experience with some kind of trauma. I'm sorry for that, and I'm sorry I didn't include a trigger warning. To be honest, I don't think donuts deserve a place in this conversation. Similarly, cake is consistently underwhelming, and almost never worth the effort takes to make it. Pie is the only real contender with cookies, I think. Pecan pie and apple pie especially are top pies. Brownies are great, but they'll never be as good as cookies or pie. Ice cream is a good shout. Personally, I barely ate ice cream while Blue Bell took that hiatus to sort out the listeria problem (I'm sure the NY Times covered it. If you don't know about it, look it up) and since it's return I just don't care for it as much I used to. However, it does improve almost all of the items that brainbomb originally mentioned. What's really missing from this conversation though is cobbler; especially peach cobbler.
