Could the Axis have won WWII?
What do you think? Personally I think militarily the axis had no chance in with the historical alliances, but I think if the Axis could have taken different diplomatic steps I think it could have been possible.

RR
Reliability rating question

Reliability rating answer.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
02 Jan 17 UTC
Boom.
One of the main reasons I stepped away is because I find reliability ratings bull. I lived on an island with patchy internet for 2 years and as a result I missed a lot of turns in the live games I play customarily. Also playing live games, I'll leave before the final possible turn because, frankly, what is the point of pressing "ready" to delete your last unit. As a result RR plummets even though I believe for the most part I've been a reliable player. Since we are stuck with this profile no matter what we are stuck with that RR. Frankly I find the rating a bunch of bs biased toward the long term game player and against the gunboat/live game player just like the Ghost Ratings have always been.

Yeah, you're exactly the type of person RR is made to protect reliable players from. If this is how you view games, your RR should be low.
Protect players from what? People living on an Island? Allowing a five minute turn go the five minutes that it was going to go anyway, what the fuck are you on about abge?

Santa, you haven't asked a question. Your post is just a statement. Misleading thread title.

You unreliably enter moves; thus, your Reliability Rating is low. Pretty straightforward. It isn't the site or the other player's fault that you live on an island.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
02 Jan 17 UTC
Ok now you asked a question. As someone who is also from an island I think RR is useful and I support it.

If you don't have proper internet access it's probably better not to play live games, if you ask me.
The point, of course, is I don't live on an island any more, I have reliable internet, I'm far more reliable now, but what does it matter. Frankly, it's easy enough to make a multi account, so I could do that, but I'd much rather see some sort of time based amnesty put into RR.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
02 Jan 17 UTC
Well, that happens. Over time if your reliability improves, your RR goes up.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
02 Jan 17 UTC
OK, but that's a very different point than your first post was making.

The weighting of past games for RR could probably be improved. You're at ~83% now. How many games would it take to get back to 90%?
I don't think I should have to play massive amounts of games to allow myself to improve my reliability. I would think if someone spends 6months to a year and is completely reliable, whether he plays 10 games or 70 he shows that at this point he is reliable and what happened two years ago is irrelevant.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
02 Jan 17 UTC
I agree.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
02 Jan 17 UTC
The only risk with heavily weighting RR towards recent games would mean that if, for example, there was a player who had been here for 5 years and had a 100% record over that time, suddenly lost internet access for a few hours while he was in 6 games at the same time, his RR would plummet dramatically.

What the fuck are you on about? I just scrolled through all the new games and found only 1 that you couldn't join because of your RR.
There are occasionally 90% high skill games on weekends that I would love to play in, know I'd have a good time in, that I'm locked out of.
Yoyoyozo (65 D)

Then be more reliable lol. you have 16 CDs. It has nothing to do with your missed turns every now and again. You've straight abandoned 16 games out of 149 completed. that's over 10% desertion rate.
CDs happen much more often in live games. If you leave after your last territory is taken in a live game, that is usually a "CD" even if it has no impact on the length or play of a game.

"I would love to play in high skill games on the weekends..."

Become a higher skilled player then. This generally involves completing turns and not disappearing when you are on the losing end.

I mean we can waste our time justifying a stupid fucking system or constructively discuss other ways we can measure "reliability"

Quitting just because you see you are about to be eliminated is still quitting.
Or you HAVE been eliminated and you'd like to save 15 minutes of your life that means nothing to a particular game...

Most Useless Game Option
The site developers have done a great job on this site - and this is no slight on them. In view of the new 1v1 games, one option looks pretty funny for those games - "Hidden Draw Votes." Any others people have noticed?

1v1 ladder?
With the addition of 1v1 formats to this site, I thought we should have a formal ladder where people can challenge each other for bragging rights. There is one on Vdip. If there is enough interest, I'll just hijack their rules and setup and make it a thread here.

I'm just curious if there is a specific algorithm to assign nations on specific maps or do I just have to pray to RNJesus.
Why? Because every map I played twice I got the same country in my first two Games. can anybody verify that or am I just lucky/unlucky?
