I would suspect that from the wording Peterwiggin used that it was a mutual decision. Modding takes a lot of time and effort and sometimes people who initially thought they'd have the time to devote to the site just realize they don't have enough time to really be a contributing moderator. I personally asked several mods to step down as an admin. It's just part of the job of being responsible for keeping the site running smoothly, which requires an extremely active moderator team.

It's often also difficult to go from a mod chat conversation where everyone knows all the details to writing a forum post. Extremely easy to word something in facts that *you* know, but forget everyone doesn't.

I don't think it is fair to assume ill intent in PW's post, what does seem fair is to thank Vashta for his time spent improving the site, and to thank PW for helping run an active moderator team that keeps this site going.
