At the time I was making my first level character, I was also enjoying the book Dinosaur Heresies. For my name, I flipped to the index and looked for anything interesting. And so, Deinodon Lancesis, 1st lvl Ranger was born.

Anyway, my name is a mixture of personal details.

I chose it because all the good names were already taken.

Someone had already taken the name of my favourite Carthiginian sex god.

And I figured you could change your name whenever, like on Steam.

Though I see why changing your name probably causes a lot of difficulty for a Diplomacy site, with player ranking, forum, and history. On the signup page it should let you know that the decision you make on your name is more permanent than your assigned name at birth.

Tragically the last of the five good emperors, Marcus, didn't adopt a successor himself. If I'm about to despotically lead a fictitious nation, I'd like Marcus to be my avatar. The portrayals of Richard Harris and Alec Guinness didn't hurt my choice either. I hate the scumbag that got to my webdip name first, MarcusAurelius, who hasn't been active since 2011. If the mods ban him, can I take his name?

I use the name Dud Bolt (a pod-racer from Star Wars Ep.1.) as a pseudonym in games. In one of my son's (civwarbuff) early games, he was England and Austria CD'd, virtually giving the game to Russia. I decided (not knowing the meta-gaming rules of the site) to create an account to take over Austria and tried, unsuccessfully, to assist to get a draw out of it. Since I did not want my son to know it was me, I altered "Dud" to "Doug". A PIN on my voicemail at the time was "7878". That's it.
