On The Forum
As some of you may know, I have been a strong proponent of a one forum system. After some careful reflection, though, I've decided separate forums are better. I have a proposal that would allow for the separation of topics without the segregation of the community that many fear. I realize this is a sensitive topic, so I would appreciate serious criticism only. I have taken the liberty of making a mock-up of my proposed forum here: http://i.imgur.com/rgcdsO2.png

The results were another three-way draw, with ckroberts, ssorenn, and Chumbles. Looking at it now, I am not 100% sure we were at a stalemate in the south.

The current list for game 3:
ckroberts
Chumbles
ssorenn
StackelbergFollower
Jeff Kuta
chluke
dyager_nh

The waiting list:
Steingrim
TrPrado*
aborinius*
abgemacht*
phil_a_s*

*Cannot play in the next game
** Cannot play in the next two games

Because I am traveling (sort of) early next week, I will be making the new game on Wednesday or Thursday or next week. If anyone on the current list can't play, feel free to bump things around and make the new lists. Anyone who wants to join the waiting list for game 4, add yourself.

In case we have anyone new to the site or unfamiliar with the game:

This is a 7 player, one game, never-ending series, 7 players in an anonymous, full press, 25 hour, low bet game (unless everyone just wants to bet big) on the classic map. We will play with Lusthog rules - no draws until there is a solid stalemate line. There is a minimum requirement of ten games played and at least an 85% reliability ranking in order to participate.

The winner or, in the event of a draw, top three players by SC count (tiebreakers, in order: RR, GR) will play in the next game, along with the top players from the waiting list. We will decide about maintaining the waiting list or doing an open call for the next game based on user interest and how long the current game takes, but my inclination is to keep the list. We can use League rules for pauses - everyone gets up to a week, no questions asked. If a player has to drop out, that player can be replaced from the waiting list, in order of sign up, with the same penalties as being eliminated. NMRs will be played through, although we will pause if a player who has to drop out in order to bring up the replacement. Any player who fails to win or make a top-three draw may rejoin the waiting list, but may not play in the next two games (unless there is a shortage of willing players) and may in no circumstances play in the next game.

On the hope that this becomes a self-sustaining thing, it will be the responsibility of the winner or one of those moving on to the next game to contact the next players and create the game, naming it by the formula "The Mountain Game #".

If there is a solo, the winner may describe himself or herself as the King of the Mountain or the Queen of the Mountain, to the admiration and envy of the rest of the site.

This game should not have been drawn. As acting TD, my last post was forbidding it from being drawn. There was not a stalemate position reached - Trieste was open for the taking - and per tournament rules, the game could not be drawn.

ckroberts - since you are the tournament creator, what is the punishment for this sort of infraction?
goldfinger0303 (3157 DMod)

Sorry, there was not a stalemate position AND the loss of Trieste would have completely unraveled the Russian line. Truly a shame the game was drawn.

And St. Petes was completely open as well. C'mon guys.
dyager_nh (619 D)

Maybe I dont understand the whole Lusthog thing but is Germany FORCED to help take Trieste even though he realistically wouldnt want to because it would likely mean he would/could lose his southern SCs when he stops being needed by France?
I guess I kind of thought it was more intended to mean you had to make any moves to advance with your own units....not forcing the entire board to combine units to make every possible combination of moves possible even if it means abandoning your own SCs to someone else.

Also...St Pete seems like a 3vs3 standoff to me.
Chumbles (791 D(S))
06 Jun 15 UTC
I agree with you dyager; I was basically at the point when I'd switch my supports to aid whomever was going to ensure my survival and I wasn't about to allow France to degrade my position to 3rd or extinct. I'd already got to the point where Russia was going to support my units to stop France!!! Basically Lusthog rules have to be interpreted n the light of the abilities and motivations of the players.
2ndWhiteLine (2606 D(B))
06 Jun 15 UTC
Lusthog requires no interpretation. If there is no stalemate, you can't vote draw. All the draw votes should have been taken down by the TD or an admin. The fact that they were even allowed to be left up for multiple turns is a disappointing lack of adherence to what is normally a very fun special rules game. The fact that it ended so quickly should have been an indication that there wasn't a stalemate. It's rare for a true Lusthog game to end before 1920.

As for the "stalemate" here, given Russia's orders this turn, France could have taken St Pete THIS TURN. Tyrolia and Albania were both weakly defended, so Trieste and Munich should have been taken. Greece next, putting France at 17. This game probably should have been a French solo once he takes Rome or Venice.
Chumbles (791 D(S))
06 Jun 15 UTC
I don't mind restarting from that position if it makes a difference? But I think the end result will be the same and at that point it was not 'fun', simply tedious. I also think that the Draw button should be disabled for such games and Draws should be by direct application to the TD.
dyager_nh (619 D)
06 Jun 15 UTC
Wow...I didnt realize it was that strict that Germany would have to essentially eliminate himself. Not my style of play. I will pass.

Oh man, you guys are right.

I didn't put anything into the rules about a misordered draw, so I am not sure what punishment is possible. Is restarting the game technically possible? If not, I don't mind clearing the slate for new Mountain participants.
kasimax (243 D)
06 Jun 15 UTC
i think we should somehow alter the lusthog rules for this game. sure, it does serve the purpose of not simply drawing when only three powers are left, but as seen from this and the last game, it doesn't work as well as in gunboat.
Chumbles (791 D(S))
06 Jun 15 UTC
Neither did I realise how prescriptive these Lusthog rules were. Incidentally, I really dislike the implication that I have somehow cheated. After one NMR over 3 years of playing, in spite of very bad health (including 9 months in hospital, 4 times nearly dying) and a high win ratio (20% currently) on this site, to find that I have to somehow justify my bona fides really makes me very. fucking.angry. Any 'punishment' and I am out of here. By the way, my name is Steve Doubleday. Look me up.

I would be willing to stay, in regular rules, but this lusthog doesn't work well with press

And for anyone to insinuate that the German lacked credibility is fucking absurd and they owe him an apology
ssorenn (0 DX)
06 Jun 15 UTC
Also the st Pete thing .....every other turn I hit Sweden with support, it would take a mastermind to think I wouldn't do it again. Therefore I refute anyone saying that st Pete could have been taken. It would have been at the cost of Sweden.
