With all these clever people on this website, who always have opinions on how countries should be run, I would think it very interesting to see a country run by them. What if we created a sort of experiment of running a country? I would like to start from almost complete scratch for it. It would sort of run along the lines of Nomic (I think that was played here for a while), except the end goal would be a running state, not to win the game. This thread is to gauge interest and gather advice on how such an experiment might be conducted.
I have some ideas and some problems as well. As I said, I would like to start from scratch, so I, or we, would impose very few rules.
The first rule would be very simple. Each citizen of WebDipia (ie. forum members) gets one vote per vote taken, and each vote is equal in weight.
Secondly, I would implore the forum to vote seriously and try to build a state that they themselves would like to live in.
Beyond that, it is up to the forum. Will they elect a dictator? Will they form some sort of Parliament? Bicameral, or single housed? Who knows? After a government skeleton was created, what issues would they face? Would they create a Constitution? How would they handle the current political problems? Would they legalize gay marriage? Would there be a comparative 2nd Amendment protecting arms? *insert current political debate*?
The main problems with this, that I see, are tying it to something more solid. A government without an economy, foreign relations, or population is no government at all. Any ideas how to simulate an economy, etc.?
A second problem would be how to propose legislation. I am open to any suggestions.
This is just to take note of interest and for ideas. Please tell me what you think
