WT
Why has the WT grown so popular in recent weeks it seems to be the trend and my curiosity is why? Also like all good trends they give way when people start to exploit the weaknesses, what are the WT's weaknesses and how can they be exploited. examples are encouraged.

FTF, all the rage!!!
As I now have played a few games with Jimthegrey and the Chicago Weasels, I find the games to be very tiring, and loss of concentration becomes an issue for me. I have proposed to that group to try to play a live FTF game, using WebDip as the platform. So no board required and everyone needs their tablet or phone and access to Internet.

Has anyone done this before?

Global Expieriement
I want to try to do a Wold Diplomacy board with global only. I have it set for 2 day phases to give time for 17 players to talk in the global chat. Personally I think it will be like giant GB but with sporadic bouts of diplomacy and negotiation. Anyone else want in?

R.I.P. Terry Pratchett
Fantasy author Terry Pratchett has died today. I'm sure many of us have enjoyed his books. In particular I think "Night Watch", one of the later Discworld novels, is a very good work indeed. RIP Terry.

I have an idea for a new game series, and I would appreciate some input.

So, while walking my dogs I have been thinking about a new game we might get started. I can't think of a better name, so I am going with The Mountain.

The structure I have in mind: We start an anonymous game (The Mountain 1) with seven players. Everyone who makes a draw or the winner goes on to the second game (The Mountain 2). The goal would be to stay on the Mountain for as many games as possible. Eliminated players are replaced from a waiting list ranked by GR. If gunboat people are interested, we could have two games going at the same time, one for gunboat and one for press.

My uncertainties: Will this style of game encourage big boring draws? I would think it would encourage people to play for solos, since that is the only way to guarantee you have been on the mountain the longest, but maybe not.

How would you determine who is next? My inclination would be GR with a demerit for previous losses in the series, but I am not sure how to weight that. You wouldn't want somebody eliminated and then be immediately allowed to re-enter, but you also wouldn't want a loss to mean you could never participate again.

Finally: would people be interested in playing this. Ideally, it would never end. Is there enough interest for such a series, in addition to the Leagues, the apparently upcoming Masters, and so on? It would be one game with seven people, so it wouldn't be quite that big a thing, but it might be tough for the people at the top.

This sounds really fun. More consideration needs to be put into how draws work, though.

Also, I would stay away from GR. Too many games rely on GR for seeding. That's how things get stagant. I would recommend a RR limit and min game limit. Maybe only open to RR 80%+ and at least 10 games played, for instance. It would then be first come first serve. You would then get a nice variety of players and you'd always have people in the queue for when people are kicked off the mountain.

I like that idea, abge. How long should the rotation be? It might be best to just having a running list, and people who lose but want to play again just go to the end of the list.

It could be interesting if done correctly, I think its important to try to make sure the draw wouldn't happen, but I don't know how that could be done.

In regards to people who lost and want to rejoin: Maybe an "Off the Mountain" game to follow the "Mountain" game, so that those who fell off can compete to re-climb the Mountain. The winner or draw participants are then eligible to be in another "Mountain" game. Of course, this would require more than one "Mountain" game to have passed by. Either way, this sounds really cool.
That's a great idea for a cup, which doesnt center around rating optimising. Interesting thought.

Some points:
- You can be eliminated by bad luck. Not a bad thing perse, but this argues for a shorter cycle. Don't have too many mountain games if it's (partly) luck anyway.
- You say it never ends - I dont get that. Isnt it a Last Man Standing format? That most definitely ends.
- I'd limit the draw. Perhaps make a system where three 'mountains' merge into one, then keep the top seven players out of three games (in terms of SCs). This would allow for some PPSC gaming, but not overly so imho.

I would suggest getting a list of 7 players at the start of each game. That way, you could populate the next game with 6 players (and one backup) if there is a solo. If you are kicked ofd the mountain, you can't play for one game, but you can sign up for the Queue for the one after that.

The winner of the most recent one should get the title "King of the Mountain."

Minister I don't think you understand.

Its a never ending series of one 7plauer game.

Let's say 3 people draw. They stay in the game and 4 new players join. So on forever. The goal is to stay in the game as long as possible.
Apologies, read more carefully now. I understand the neverending now. I'm not sure that would though, people like victories to mean something. So if you're going down this road, the goal would be to maximise the winning streak, correct? If so, then there's definitely an incentive to make a perpetual 17/17 alliance.
Also, you should make it Lusthog - illegal to vote Draw unless a solid stalemate exists.
I like this idea a lot.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

I think top 3 players should stay in a draw (by SC) and only 1 in the event of a solo. That would really encourage people to win.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Or Lusthog.
TrPrado (461 D)

ckroberts (3548 D)

TMOW, you'd have to make it anonymous with strict anti-meta rules. People could guess of course, but I'd think it would be better to avoid pile-ons for whoever is the current King.

I like a Lusthog idea, or maybe no draws before a certain game year. And I really like "King of the Mountain" as the title of winners.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

So, when each round starts, 14 people should sign up. The first 7 play game 1 and the second 7 make up the pool for Game 2. When Game 2 starts, 7 more people sign up as the pool for Game 3 and so on. If you are eliminated in Game 1 you can't sign up for Game 2 (and maybe 3?)
And to complete the GoT reference, if you're the newly acceding King, you could be called Kingslayer.

:-)

Or maybe draws have to be: After a certain year, with at most 3 remaining players, and a definite stalemate line must be present.
TrPrado (461 D)

We should start getting a list of those interested. You can definitely count me in.
