Yeah I love Waterman. I only have three right now, the only expensive one of which was a gift, but they're great. (I may or may not ever get more, since for practical reasons, one doesn't need a ton, but I do love writing with them).

I have a Hamilton Mechanical Khaki that I wear daily and a Citizen Eco-Drive for dress. I also have a few pocket watches, which I'm fond of, but never seem to get around to using.

Watches, pens, old pipes (especially meerschaums) and aging cigars until they are perfect. I also collect diecast cars from the Franklin and Danbury Mints, Playboys with 007 stories, articles, or pictorials (only want the 007) as well as other 007 items (especially first UK and US edition books) and all things LoTR. I also have a pretty decent library of antique books including a later printing of the first edition Ben Hur - the first printing is so rare, I can't justify spending $1500 for a book.

@abge - I have been wanting to get a Hamilton Ventura, the triangular shaped one from Men in Black.

I'm not a huge fan of non-round watches, but I have been very happy with my Hamilton. Was a little too adventurous with it in the water over the weekend, so I need to find an horologist, though : /

I like old clocks but don't own any. I'm not a fan of watches for a whole slew of aesthetic and social reasons.

What are the social reasons?

It regiments life into blocks of time. It increases impatience. I find that, if I have a watch on, I'm always checking to see how much time such-and-such activity is taking, always anticipating the next activity, never enjoying what I am experiencing at the time and always waiting for the next thing. I find quite a lot of people with watches are looking at them frequently, always seem anxious.

This is actually a very timely thread. With my Hamilton en route to Switzerland, I'm probably in the market for a new watch.

Depending on your budget, Bulova makes some nice automatics for under $400. If you have a bigger budget, you can't go wrong with an Omega Seamaster. But that will run several grand.

My budget depends a lot on what I plan on using it for, but let's say $750 max.

When I get my Hamilton back in a month or so, I think I'll continue using that as my daily driver. What I'd like, I think, is something a little more suitable for outdoors/weekend use. I see both Seiko and Citizens make some nice dive watches, for instance.

I have a lot of 20mm Nato straps, so it would be a big plus if I could find a watch that fits those, but it's not really a requirement.

Go back to the Casio F91W. Can't be beat.
