I don't accuse people of cheating, so you need to look closer at your role model and actually mimic him/me. I think you are confusing me with someone else.

I only jump on lynching bandwagon's for lynching mods. I stood up for maplelaff even though it left a bad taste in my mouth. And I stood up for you every time it has come up.

bay, glad to see that you joined the site. i would be interested in trying to join your first game if you make one. also, about this thread... sorry that it derailed so quickly. my advice is to just mute sandgoose and draug now, you'll have to do it eventually anyway.

Never calling someone a cheat. I only jump on the bandwagon for forum violations (press related shit like discussing ongoing gunboats) or if I feel a mod has overstepped. I find the best way to make your point is to be obnoxious about it.

But notice TVRocks hasn't done so, or he wouldn't have noticed the thread derailment.

Bayclown, I think by the responses here you'll be unlikely to get a game going by posting on the forum. Most players who regularly visit the forums are probably hesitant to get into a game with a new player with no track record. I would advise jumping in a couple anon games first and get a few games under your belt before you start advertising for new games.

starting out with gunboats could be a good idea, though i would reccomend trying both gunboats and full press.

Bay, if it is a Gunboat you are setting up I would be willing to risk it, even if you have no track record here.
It would be nice to know which players are participating beforehand though. That should reassure others aswell.

Just out of curiosity: why wait almost half a year after signing up to get into a game?

I tried playing one game very early on. I believe it was a five minute phase game. However, my power cut very early into the game and it was drawn and cancelled. I decided after that I would wait until I had adequate time to join a real game and devote the time to messaging and whatnot. So Party I'll pass on the gunboat for now but thanks for the offer!

Out of curiosity, what is the bad wrap on joining with a newer player? Isn't the forum the place to be able to get players who won't quit out on a game or also ensure there aren't sketchy players? If it is regarding me not having any games then that is more understandable

a gunboat does not involve messaging... It's a no in game messaging game. It does not take up very much time, usually less than 5 minutes per diplomacy phase and less for the other 2.

i reccomended it because you would be able to learn about how to play without having to worry about press. (they're also awesome)

I'd be interested in playing in a game, Bayclown. I don't really care if it's full press or gunboat, either would be fine with me.

@Bay - Because you are posting on the forum and have ben hanging around lurking (presumably) you actually have a *better* rep and I will play a full press game with you as long as it is non-live (meaning at least 24 hour phases).

The most important aspect is to password it when you create it so you can monitor who is joining. The problem with newish players who just jump into games (especially live ones) is they don't realize the commitment sometimes of playing in a game with 6 other players. It isn't chess where you can just resign and the other guy wins. So we tend to be leery of players who are brand new and haven't hung around or contributed in any significant way. But I've no doubt you would see it through at this point based on why you decided to wait until you could dedicate the time.

Oh, and the only reason won't do live with you is that *I* don't have the time to dedicate to a live game. Browsing the forums requires less dedication than a turn every 5 minutes for 3 or 4 hours.

Okay cool. Yes, I have been lurking for a while just to familiarize myself. Plus reading a lot of diplomacy strategy etc. I guess I will try stir up more interest over the next few days and like i said, start the game next week. I am thinking of 1.5 day turns

you wouldn't want to bet all 100 because then you will have all your points tied up in one game and will not be able to play in other games until that one is finished, and often players want to be involved in multiple games at one time. If you want to join this live gunboat gameID=143290, it could be an introduction to the site that would be quick but you wouldn't have to talk to other players.

Also, not all of us have a spare 100 . :-) Seriously, some of us suck at keeping points (lose the big games, draw or solo the little ones) so don't judge a player by his points. When you are ready to start looking at your competitions skill level, go to http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net and click on GhostRatings. Also check their win/draw/survive/defeat/resign stats. That will tell you a lot about their abilities.
