Clarificatory question: would people still be discouraged from posting live game advertisements in their own threads instead of the live game thread? I'm all for less work for the mods, but all of those threads would clog the forums.

We may or may not let people know that the Live Game Thread exists, just for their own convenience, but if we went with Option 2, there would be no expectation from the mods that that thread be used.

Truly, the amount of work is trivial for me. This is really a matter of how the community feels about how live games are advertised.

We use option 1 over at vDip, but we have a far smaller user base.

It's an outrage that you'd even consider letting more Diplomacy-related threads on the forum.

I plan on muting any live game ads that are not posted in the live games thread. It's spam and annoying.

Until we have separate forums, the live games thread is the best way. Players looking for a game know where to look. If only we could get sticky threads...

Okay guys, clearly abge already knows that many forum members are capable of making snappy remarks. I think what he's aiming for here is to hear some reasons one way or another.

Abge, correct me if I'm wrong, but the current reason for silencing live game ads is that on any given night there are at least 10 attempts to start a live game. So 10 new threads a day, possibly more that I'm just not noticing. Ignoring the spamming element, isn't it simply easier to know that if you want to play a live game you can go post in a thread that you *know* other people interested in live games will check?

Additionally, if you want to play in a live game you don't have to search the entire forum checking every thread before making your own.

If that doesn't seem reasonable please let abge know why. Don't complain when he makes a ruling on this topic if you don't take the time to let him know why you support one way or another.

To be clear, this has no bearing on live games in the distant future. For instance, if I wanted to start a live game on Sat but find people for it now, you can start a new thread.

All I'm talking about is live game ads for games set to start within several hours of the ad.

Actually...if you want to play a random live game...isn't it easier to , you know, use the Games tab that is designed specifically to find games? Unless you are trying to organize a specific game with non-random players, that what it is there for.

Despite my sarcastic and pretentiously worded monologue in the other thread, I'm actually all for keeping the run of the mill live game spam in one thread and silencing those that fall outside. However, I don't have a problem with people starting a new thread to advertise/recruit for any *private* live games or those with special rules/conditions.

I think the idiots that spray "ENJOY TO LIVE GAME NOW" all over the forum are not only annoying, but not very effective to their desired cause. If anything they hurt their chances of getting a game started by broadcasting that at least one idiot is already on the roster. And, no, you shouldn't want to play with idiots. If you're looking for easier competition, you'll be sorely disappointed by those who just ruin games with NMRs, CDs, lack of talking, and just general time wasting stupidity.

I just wanted to frame the issue within a larger consideration of forum moderation that I think should be discussed. I was hoping that more would add to that discussion. I'll still wait before I further elaborate my thoughts.

Live games are hard to find quickly, and special games need to be organized somewhere.
