The king is dead game 2 and 3
I've decided to make 2 more on the American and modern diplomacy maps. The rules will be the same as in the last game, so to review it there will be 4 different roles, the king, the knights the rebels, and the traitor/ traitors. Rules continued below.

I know that some have a love --hate thing for krellin, but does anyone else feel that the forum is just a little bland when he's not around stirring the pot????

Black list
We need to be able to weed out the people we don't want to play with

Not just password games

I like to join some anon FP games and I've found some people so annoying I want to quit games, but I won't because of the other players. But in our own profiles we should be able to have a list,of known players to us ,that we don't ever want to play with again.\
\
Then when you join a anon game ,and it turns out that a person on your black list is in the game(without telling you who) it says you don't want to be involved in that game because someone on your black list is already signed up}

I have a feeling krellin would be on a lot of peoples lists hahaha

And a whitelist that tells you when people that you've enjoyed playing with have joined a game, or shows a special icon beside new games to let you know which games have at least one person on your whitelist.

But, yes, I know, program it...

Black and white. Great. I don't care if I disagree in the forum with somebody, or actually not like that person because of our differences, but that doesn't matter to me if they play diplomacy well. The game is anon anyway. Good players are good players.

kestas isn't really that active in writing code for the website anymore ssorenn, and he'll only add things that passes his test of "clean" coding. So even if you were to code it, I wouldn't be able to say if/when it would be implemented.

Got it. So should we refrain from further suggestions as it doesn't matter
talmina (206 D)

Is there a repo for the site's code? It wouldn't be that hard to program something like that, but anon is supposed to be anon. I could see this being exploited if implemented poorly.
talmina (206 D)

Found it.

The webdip code is at: https://github.com/kestasjk/webDiplomacy

I don't know what Kestas' policy is on accepting patches, but there's a forum for developers here: http://forum.webdiplomacy.net/

I would start by asking there if I were planning to build any extra features.
No, suggestions are always welcome, ssorenn. Just the "to do" list has been growing rather long as of late.

Will you tell me where that is(the to do list), or should I continue my thoughts here. I would like there to be more on your plate. Hehehe lol. Just kidding!!

Personally, I've never met anyone so annoying that I wanted to quit. I usually solve the problem by enticing other players to gang up on him/her based solely on the fact that they are obnoxious.
ssorenn (0 DX)
06 Mar 14 UTC
Well you said suggestions are welcome:

You know how in non-anon games, you can see the players on the bottom of the game page, and the last time they checked the game,as well as if they are currently logged in.
Why can we see this info in anon games without the actual names. Just when they last checked in or if they are currently logged on. That way you can banter with them and maybe get a quick response ?

@ssorenn: The mentioned forum has a public todo list for feature requests. I'll definitely have a look at the code; the prospect of tinkering with it is exciting. Wouldn't expect too much from me, though. I'm pretty lazy. :p

Online information is not available in anon games (I assume) because then it could be correlated with online information on player's profiles, other games, or the forum to easily de-anonymise players.

Erau - your open admission to meta-gaming disturbs me. Forum bullshit has nothing to do with games, and any *quality* player knows/that.

I guess we know the type of player you are.

It's been a while since I played with krellin, but his in-game persona is substantially different from his forum persona. Just don't stab him, the results are predictable lol

I don't think that abstract smack talk counts as meta gaming. His chatter has nothing to do with games that are being (or will be) played. Personally, I love anon games specifically because I don't know any of the players' records.

Was this fix never implemented? Has anyone seen incorrect civil disorder disbands in the last few years?

Also, is there no unified to-do list? All I see are several old threads on sub-forums.

Why do anyone needs a black list?
If you can't remember who you won't play with.....
steephie22 (182 D(S))

Too easy to abuse. You could figure out everyone in your game with a bit of testing. With a white list it's even easier. It would even be possible to make an external tool to automatically show the names in every game before it starts.

Ahhhhh, good times, good times. Remember when Obama helped secure $48 Million to help disarm the Ukraine? Remember when he started disarming the US? The hollow sound you hear from the White House these days is the empty sheath where our sabre used to be...and Putin is laughing his ASS off...

Diplomacy Statistics
I know everyone has their favorite country/countries, but I was wondering what is the country most statistically likely to win. Is there any way to calculate that from previous webdip games? Other than slogging through each and every one?

Some backstory for your review...
So, I am working on creating a new strategy game and, as we al know, there is more than just game mechanics to create a good game. If there weren't, we would be playing Diplomacy on a perfectly balanced board with some kind of geometric map, no a Map of Europe set just prior to the events of WWI. The following is the backstory for my game. Comments are more than welcome.

The Ukrainian People
So, we've been hearing a lot about the "will of the unified Ukrainian" people lately. Here's my provocative question: wouldn't the separation of Ukraine into two countries be the best for the Ukrainians? Look at these maps:

I wish there were a way to separate real draws
As a newbie, I've started a lot of low stakes games, which frequently end up in draws when we have lots of CDs. I wish there were a way to distinguish those draws that result when a solo effort fails. Sadly, people rarely are interested in cancelling

Scoring?
How are games scored here? If there is a draw, do all players involved score the same, or do we get points for how well we place? Similarly, if a single player wins do the survivors get points according to their final position?

What's the polite way to say buzz off?
In a couple of games I've had another player pestering me for an alliance. Unfortunately, it was someone I had already decided to fight (you gotta fight somebody), so I tried to ignore them.
But I don't want to be rude, and I don't want to explicitly say, "I'm going to send my troops to kill your children, steal your cows, and perpetrate tax fraud."
Is there a nice convention for saying, "I do not want an alliance with you at this time"?
