Sniff In the Bathroom Stall...
...and other forms of "alert". Yeah, so I entered the john and heard the inevitable "sniff" from the far (and favored) stall - the, "I'm in here...stay away" sniff to a fellow shitter.

Two questions: What is your preferred form of "alert" to fellow man, and what is your preferred stall?

How to Deal With Heartbreak...
So yeah, it's been a while, and I'm probably looking a lot like Conservative Man with this post, but I just went through an awful breakup and I need some help. I've never really had a father figure and I know this is pathetic, but this is the only place I've found good advice that I haven't had to figure out on my own...

Welcome back, atom.

What about your father? He's enough of a father figure to teach you diplomacy.

I knew before a full month that this was the perfect girl for me, and a little while later, she started saying she knew it too. Now she's decided she doesn't love me anymore and couldn't even be bothered to apologize. I can't win her back, I've wasted enough time trying. I just need advice on how to cope with it all. I can't enjoy much food or TV shows, since everything I do is something we did together. The only thing I could think of that might work was to come back to this site, the only place where I never took her.

So I don't know what most of you all think of me by now, but don't take this with a grain of salt, I'm not the same person I was when I joined this site as a high school freshman.

"The only thing I could think of that might work was to come back to this site, the only place where I never took her."

I know you're still pretty young, but in most crowds, this sentence means that you just fucked her everywhere.

abge, my dad didn't teach me Diplomacy. I taught him Diplomacy. I really only recently realized this, but my dad has never been around for me emotionally. I literally have no one I can confide in.

Look, I know I'm going to sound ridiculous, but when you know you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you kind of put all your eggs into one emotional basket, so to speak...
I've been "in love" before, but nothing ever this serious. And I know the first thought is that I'll get over her eventually, but I know myself well enough to know that I won't. It's just hard to think that she led me on for so long and then just decided she didn't love me any more.

atom,

I'll give you the undeserved benefit of the doubt and assume you're being genuine.

Breakups suck and there's not much you can do besides give yourself time and distance. It doesn't help much now to hear it, but you're very young and in a year you won't even remember this person.

Shit. I fully understand you, and I'm in a similar situation. Getting distracted really helps, but getting distracted is very hard when his/her memory just pops up in every fucking random moment it can :/
Invictus (240 D)

How old are you? That determines the answer to a large degree.

Regardless of your age, you'll be fine. It'll hurt, and hurt for a while.

A friend of mine got engaged and moved in to a condo with his fiance. A month later they broke up and still tried living together. On New Years she brought a guy back and fucked him on the couch while a bunch of his friends were sleeping around them, and then after my friend woke up and confronted them she took the rando guy back to her room and fucked him again. They still lived together for almost a week as she moved out.

So yeah, your life sucks right now. But it could always be worse. And even for him things have turned around already.

I was trying to be vague on purpose, because I didn't want you all to jump on me for acting just like anyone would after a break up.
I was a senior, she was a sophomore. It lasted four months. But for two years before we started dating, we had our emotional buildup. When I asked her out, we were both unsure, but before long, I felt like an idiot for not asking her out sooner. It took her about a month to decide she was in love with me and two weeks ago, she decided she wasn't anymore. I just feel like if she had told me there was a problem, it wouldn't have built up to this, you know? I've let the best girl I'll ever get slip away and I can't help but feel like it's my fault. Even though it's completely hers...

Honestly I'm surprised how someone who has "go ahead mock me, I already hate myself...." on his profile managed to get a girlfriend in the first place....

And blaming your self-esteem or personal issues on your dad doesn't help but just makes you look really immature. For all we know your dad could've been a decent guy. And even if he wasn't I know people who've grown up without father figures and they're some of the strongest people I know.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions, abge. Yes, he may be more to blame than he realizes, but there's also a big maturity gap between a sophomore and a senior in high school, even if that senior is KA. And women are pretty bad decision makers too amirite

She's 16. She doesn't have a clue what she wants beyond hanging at the mall with her friend and, for a while, to say she had a senior for a boyfriend. Go bang the school slut and have a good time being single again. College awaits and you *will* forget about her. I'm fact, you'd have problem broken up with her the first time you got laid in college next year anyhow.

King Atom (100 D)

@rollerfiend, I don't blame my father for any issues I have. Yeah, he's a decent guy, but he's not a great parent. He's looking to be my friendly caretaker, which is as much his problem as it is mine.

@abge, I woke up this morning and planned out what special way I could tell her I loved her. When I first greeted her to tell her, she met me by saying "I don't think this relationship is working out." That was the first time she'd told me that anything was wrong.

Right now it feels like life sucks and you've been blindsided by the thing you thought you loved most. The best way to get over her is definitely to focus on the positives of the break-up occurring, and there are plenty of them. Her pulling you along is all done, you have your freedom again which is something to be cherished in your younger years, you're coming out of this with a lot more perspective on what it means to love someone than you did coming in, etc. There's no button you can click to feel better, but focusing on the positives of the entire situation will help a lot.

Hey Atom, you are learning a lesson that I took a very long time to. Girls tend to go after attraction, and you need to keep it up while not acting too desperate or too lovey-dovey with them. Just be a man, an independent man. Even when you two are together, you need to maintain your own sense of independence, as a man, and the girl will never leave you.

Everyone needs a pick-me-up every once in a while.
Get in a game with Krellin and let everyone yell at him or reread some of his ridiculous forum posts :)

On the other hand, (you could always use the other hand too if you know what I mean ;) jkjkjk) I can't say anything but give yourself time and distance. There are worse break-ups out there and at least it hadn't gone as far as other relationships yet. You're nearing college, and that's a major step in your life where you (and many others) will be forced to move forward without many people and things you are familiar with. Take that opportunity to distract yourself with other things and meet other people that will help you gradually get over her. Shame on you for being a fool, but shame on her for purposely fooling the fool.

Cheer up, King Atom. You're king of the world if you want to be. :D

Genetic Engineering for monkeys, *by* monkeys?
People worry about technology taking over the planet. But now we've got cut-and-paste monkey DNA. If they make this easy enough for the monkeys to do themselves, we might find that they're not squeamish about global domination via genetically engineered super monkeys. http://www.theguardian.com/science/2014/jan/30/genetically-modified-monkeys-cut-and-paste-dna-alzheimers-parkinsons

Scientific basis for communism
I can't find any evidence of a scientific basis for communism. Is it the case that communism requires historical determinism to be true though? Communism only seems to consider "false consciousness", a view that history is static, "class consciousness", a view that history is dynamic and deterministic, but makes no room for history being dynamic and unpredictable.
