I could be un-banned? I've played on this site since 2007 and have very much enjoyed my time here. I got banned because one of my friends spelled his name wrong in the forum. Apparently this was seen as an act of disrespect to _The Moderators_. I never disrespected _The Moderators_.

Which dumbass thought we should call everyone who isn't white "People of Colour"?
1. Black isn't a colour.
2. White is all colours.
3. White people change colour when cold, ashamed, hot, sick, dead, and they're born pretty red. Black people stay black.
"People of colour" is probably the most offensive way to call black people, right before "nigger".

I'm truly sad that people find stories as important as this as just 'spam'.
A truly democratic and civilized society should mean that all people are equal in law.
Any right-minded individuals should be appalled by this, rather than close your eyes and shoot the messenger, Octo may find this 'spam' a minor annoyance in his enjoyment of this forum but I hope there are others that will be genuinely concerned by what is happening here, especially where Western govts give foreign aid and sale of arms is concerned...... do these countries deserve our help with cooperation with such inhumane laws, ask yourself that question, if you were President/PM would you want to do business with these people ??
Apologies to the people who regard topics such as this as spam ..... I pity you !!

''In conservative rural parts of Morocco, an unmarried girl or woman who has lost her virginity - even through rape - is considered to have dishonoured her family and no longer suitable for marriage. Some families believe that marrying the rapist addresses these problems.''

See, it's just a matter of perspective. Marrying your rapist is the best option, and in this perspective, it's not about abuse of women, it is about a systematic status issue.

Women only hold value in these cultures when they are married. Their status is intrinsically linked to this. Whether that is as a home-maker or baby producer.

You see it in western culture aswell, single-mothers are criticised, as are career women who choose not to have families. Each are stigmatized for not following the traditional family narrative.

"A truly democratic and civilized society should mean that all people are equal in law."

Equal in law is not enough, first the law should represent something of the values of a culture, and if it does not enforcing it becomes a problem. Equality in practice, beyond the law is what we are currently striving for.

Are we reading the same article? The one I'm reading states than an unjust law has just been changed:

"The parliament of Morocco has unanimously amended an article of the penal code that allowed rapists of underage girls to avoid prosecution by marrying their victims.

The move follows intensive lobbying by activists for better protection of young rape victims. The amendment has been welcomed by rights groups."

Gee....I remember the day when all the Libtards embraced multi-culturalism, and told me that I had no right at all to judge another's culture.

So who am I to tell the Moroccons how to runs their lives? After all, it was the bleeding heart Democrats that insisted I not try to change others...

--------

On a serious note...it's spam because it's spam...what do you want us to do? I bring this sort of topic up all the time (not rape) -- but the idea that all you duffuses on WebDip with your *special caues* that you are so concerned about...gun rights, racism, rape, whatever...you see an article, you blather on about it for a day or two, telling everyone that doesn't jump in to lock-step with you how evil and heartless they are...and then *YOU* yourself forget about it for another 5 months until you see another interesting link.

And what I strongly suspect you NEVER ever do is actually live out your cause in your real world life.

The gun-haters don't actually leave their house and go work for an anti-gun cause.

The race-baiters that think everyone is racist don't ever actually *do* anything to stop racism other than jump on line and spew their race-cards and call everyone a racist.

The global-warming-is-destroying-the-planet crowd never turns their computer off to save a little electricity, or sell their house to live in minimal housing and diminish their "carbon footprint".

So fuck you...it is spam. I dont' care if you throw it up and create another useless thread - that's what we all do -- but please dont' insult us and pretend that **this one** is *finally* a real, serious topic and we all need to stop what we are doing, quit our jobs and fight against global rape.

Because 99.999% of us are not rapists, and don't advocate abusing women. So fuck off.

If you have an issue with rape, talk to Putin, our resident public educator, who fully endorses rape by association.

Nigee - you do a very good job here of trying tin indict the world for the actions of a few -- typical moronic Libtard shared-guilt syndrome.

Nobody is responsible for their own actions...everyone is guilty for every individual crime, even those that take place in foreign countries, apparently.

Sorry, asshole, I'm not a rapist, and suspect that apart from Putin there are no rapists on this web-site.

Maybe if you want to address the problem of rape, you should personally takeup the cause of educating people in the real world where the problem exists - not in this small, private community where it does not.

Maybe you could do some research and find out where rape is more prevelant -- say, for example, the college greek system, and you could take up the cause of dismantling said system.

But fuck off with you typical asshole "you are all guilty" Libtard moronism.

'There is a large gap between countries that are in the 21st century and countries that are in the 9th century.'

Interestingly, i read recently an article on Islamic feminism - which goes on to claim that in the 9th century Islam was one of the most forward thinking of groups. They emphasise not that men are the head of the household and women are subservient - but instead, all are subservient to God (Allah).

The in the 9th century most women became property of their husbands upon receipt of dowry payment. But Islam brought the idea that the woman kept the dowry as her own property and had the right to divorce her husband - and take any property/income she had brought to the marriage.

Meanwhile in europe it was hundreds of years before this level of equality was seen; though i know that early irish law did infact specify many terms for how much a woman was entitled to upon a divorce...

But the point being, Islam as interpreted by men in the 12th Century and Islam as interpreted by feminists in the 21st Century are two very different things. As is what living in the 9th Century means.

'Man up and deal with it. ' - Is this the Masculinist answer. Does deal with it mean talking about it, agreeing with allies that it is a problem, and then decide on the best course of action?

I mean, i don't want to misunderstand you, so I'd love to hear what you have to contribute.

i'm really confused by your position nigee

we can't realistically invade and establish governments in our own image. even aside from how fucked up an idea that is, it doesn't work. see iraq and afghanistan and i can go on

the only other realistic way to bring progress to that region is through trade. globalization encourages a shift toward a market economy, which necessitates strong property rights, which then lends itself toward a philosophical realignment in favor of individual autonomy, which then opens the door toward social progress on women's issues
krellin (80 DX)
23 Jan 14 UTC
The only way to bring about freedom and equal rights to women is through the strong, authoritarian hand of a central government with a heavy hand to distribute punishment to those whose thoughts deviate from the accepted, defined government norm. It is only under such a regime can we truly experience freedom from oppression.
"we can't realistically invade and establish governments in our own image."
-I don't know what world you've been living in PE.

Oh, and Nigee, this isn't upworthy or Facebook, this sort of slactivism won't get you 100k likes, +1s, or whatever. So please, if you actually care about this issue do something about it rather than dicking about here pretending to.
orathaic (1009 D(B))
23 Jan 14 UTC
"which necessitates strong property rights, which then lends itself toward a philosophical realignment in favor of individual autonomy, " - i could disagree here, based entirely on a few thousand years of property and women being used as it. You can have very strong property rights in favour of family autonomy - I don't know how the logic proceeds to the individual. (or why it would stop there)

If you want a suggestion of what to do, i would highly recommend setting up a school which teaches (among other things) american ideas. Educate, and you might get people to listen for as long as America is seen as the most powerful successful nation on earth...

What else can you, personally, do? Talk to people about the problem(s) ask them if they have good solutions to offer, imagine a world where you can make a difference and then act there.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

PE - assuming you have some intelligence this must be one massive super-troll. Western imperialists have been trying and failing to create countries in their own image for so long you would have thought they would have learnt by now but as both Iraq and Afghanistan happened in the last 12 years it is obvious the lesson has not been learned. It is still the policy of the West to conquer and rule.

Your ideas about globalisation are so USA and so primitive, don't you think these natives and savages would have worked their shit out without a Starbucks and a McDonalds on every street corner, it is arrogant imperialist bullshit.
The USA trade heavily with Saudi Arabia and China, where is the philosophical realignment there you nincompoop, what this trade is actually doing is saying to countries like Saudi, you give us cheap oil, we'll sell you loads of arms and we actually don't give a fuck about your citizens because the greenback rules.
If the USA really gave a toss about places like Palestine & Tibet don't you think something would have changed by now, globalization isn't changing the world for the better my ignorant friend, it is doing lots of damage.
Whilst this arrogance of 'we're teaching our trade partners about human rights via free market economics' continues things will not get better.
It is this fucked up thinking that countries will be more democratic with a KFC and a Starbucks, maybe that is what should be happening in Syria right now, forget supplying arms to the opposition parties, go build a few fast food retail outlets in the biggest cities, if they don't all shake hands and learn to love each other within 12 months I'll eat my hat.
What about this, Cameron and Obama and the EU go to China and say we are going to introduce 50% import taxes on all of your goods until you clean up your human rights abuses, how long do you think it would take before we saw a change ..... the problem is these countries are all so fucking greedy they are all trying to strike deals to get stuff cheap, whilst their domestic manufacturing base implodes.
Every time Obama meets the Chinese leaders the issue of human rights comes up but nothing changes, he meets with Netanyahu and then more settlements get built on occupied land, did the invasion of Afghanistan stop the opium trade ??
No unfortunately PE this RedWhiteBlue tinted spectacles view of global change via capitalist imperialism is not the only way, the sooner you rednecks understand that the better.

Nowhere in that post was a singular coherent thought addressing anything I said... except maybe this gem:

"Your ideas about globalisation are so USA and so primitive, don't you think these natives and savages would have worked their shit out without a Starbucks and a McDonalds on every street corner, it is arrogant imperialist bullshit."

Aren't you the one bitching in multiple threads now about how backwards third-world states have a deplorable record on women's rights? Yet you're sitting here white-knighting for them when I suggest that Westernization is the answer.

You have no solutions or even a coherent point. You are wasting everyone's time.
