This game is going to need a new Germany
The game was paused for the xmas break, but one of the players never came back to unpause. We're probably going to get a mod to unpause so we can continue - does anyone want the German position? It's not great, but also not over yet.

A year old
I can't believe it's been a year since I've joined. It's been fast, but I feel like I've been here longer on this site than just a year. I like it here, and I will remain here for a very long time.
So, I want to hear other webdiplomacy members stories of the past and how much has changed.

Resign votes
It's been suggested often that there should be an option for players to concede their games without going into civil disorder and ruining the game for the others. Here's a mechanism that I think would be elegant, and not very difficult to implement. Suggestions welcome!

My game is http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=132706 and I am Rome. I have an army at Tarraconensis and a fleet in the Ligurian Sea, and both are adjacent to Baleares. The army is able to move to Baleares and so is the fleet, but when I go to support one unit in with the other, it does not let me. Specifics are in my reply.

@anlari -- As Italy you were really a jerk in this game. Have the balls to announce ahead of time that you are going for 34 centers ... don't just string the game out for 20 game years toying with your opponents who are playing by the normal rules. I wish there was a way I could ensure that I never end up in a game with you again.

What the fuck? How did it involve Civil Disorder Germany (and it is the system account) as Italy *and* making moves? I'm beyond confused how that game came about.

So, looking deeper into it, I see what you mean. And yeah, that was a dick move by Anlari. You have the win and you take it. You don't get more points or GR for more SCs on the win, even in PPSC, so why be a dick? Just take your solo and be done.

VBob is right to bitch about anlari's actions in the end game.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
27 Dec 13 UTC
What the fuck is going on with that? Draugnar's question needs an answer. The old system account "Civil Disorder Germany" actually played in that game *as Russia* and input moves.

What.
The.
Fuck?

VBob has the mods remove him and put CD Germany in in his place and for good reason.
Jamiet99uk (865 D)
27 Dec 13 UTC
What reason?
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Dec 13 UTC
Anlari could have gotten his win at anytime but was determined to control things and go for a 34 SC win, not just an 18 SC one. In other words, he wanted to take it all even though it made no difference to points or GR. VBob didn't want to NMR but had no desire to sit there and waste time just so Anlari could be dickish and claim a 34 SC win.
Draugnar (0 DX)
27 Dec 13 UTC
Although Russia and England could actually have forced Anlari to take the win at less than 34 or never get the win. Had they hunkered down in Scandanavia with their fleets in behind Nwy and Den, they could have prevented Anlari from getting enough units on them to take all 17 remaining SCs in one year.

I'm enough of an asshole, I probably would have done that to Anlari to teach him a lesson about being a fucktard.

That Anlari must be a very clever person to scrape a draw out of that situation, some people are just so artistic .....
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

This game was unique. There's nothing saying Italy isn't allowed to try to get all 34 centers, and it was apparently a personal goal of his. Interestingly we'd never had that situation come up before. VB handled it poorly by breaking site rules and posting about it while the game was still ongoing, and Italy handled it poorly by not realizing it would upset the other members. Kestas stepped in and swapped VB out with one of his magic system accounts with some kind of black voodoo that seemed to make everyone happy. Kudos to France for being calm and reasonable through the whole situation.

Cliffnotes: Kestas handled the case and decided both Anlari and VirtualBob had decent points so he found a unique solution to fix the problem.
JECE (1248 D)
28 Dec 13 UTC
Interesting dispute here. Was VirtualBob's issue just the extra time it took to finish the game? I think one of the updates made it impossible to win more than half the pot (at least in PPSC games).
MajorMitchell (1874 D)

good point JMO, there is nothing in the rules of WebDip that precludes a player from trying to capture up to & including 34 sc's.
Also there is, as I understand the rules, no requirement for any player to openly & honestly state their intentions and or aspirations as to how many sc's they want to capture.
what are we saying here, that players should all start out negotiations by stating their endgame goals ???
like that'll get you into alliances, "Hi guys, I intend to capture 27 sc's in this game, want to be my ally ?" oh yeah, I can see that working a treat, in creating an alliance to destroy you first

Hang on.... what?

What actually happened in this game to justify mod intervention, let alone intervention by kestas?

Again, what the fuck?

As far as I can see, Anlari behaved within the rules and there was no basis for a complaint against him.
MajorMitchell (1874 D)

I chose to not look at this game initially as I was wary
about discussing a game in the forum whilst it is in progress.
I've just had a look at the game & scanned the archive maps.
I think Anlari played very well, particularly in first 20 moves, it's never easy when you get Italy & Anlari coped well with a series of "reverses"

so in addition to my previous comment, I'll add this, there is no requirement in the rules of WebDip that a player, or players must finish the game within a certain number of moves, so it is quite within the rules to, once having gained some degree of control of the game, to run the endgame to suit yourself. This game was no ingame messaging and it's unusual to see a single player adopt the strategy that Anlari chose in that type of game, it's something I would expect to see in a messaging game where an alliance, usually of two nations/players control the endgame to suit their purposes.

I agree with Jamie99uk, I can see nothing to indicate a breach of the rules by Anlari.

jmo's comment that "VB handled it poorly by breaking site rules and posting about it whilst the game was ongoing" is a clear indication that VB breached a rule of the game,
and given that, I think he's lucky to get out of the game with any points.
If anyone has a "right to feel dudded" in my view it's Anlari
my advice to VB, take the points you were lucky to get, & move quietly on to the next game & PLEASE REMEMBER, do not discuss live games in the forum
If you play poorly enough to let someone capture literally every supply center on the board when the game automatically ends the moment someone gets 50%+1, you really don't have the right to complain IMO
Draugnar (0 DX)
28 Dec 13 UTC
Well, they could have stopped it in the north. After all, the could pile on the units they had and SH the hell out of everything.
Even more compelling argument for not doing anything then. I don't disagree with kestas subbing out people who didn't want to sit there and play out the 34-center win, but to have the audacity to complain about someone going for that because it means you have to sit through more turns when you could have prevented it from happening is beyond the pale to me
Also lol @ "have the balls to announce you're going for 34 centers" in a gunboat game
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
28 Dec 13 UTC
@Jamiet, you are right, and we (the mod team) decided that we had no grounds to interfere with the game. But we did send his appeal onto Kestas who found a way to take both viewpoints into consideration.

Not sure what more anyone could ask for.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
28 Dec 13 UTC
... Why did they draw? Wouldn't you expect Anlari to actually solo at least?
MajorMitchell (1874 D)
28 Dec 13 UTC
@ jmo I can accept the decision made by both you & the mod team
& kestas. I realise these things aren't always simple.
I also think, after some consideration, that VB does not have a valid complaint
& given that he broke the "do not discuss live games in the forum" rule I think he should quietly take the points and move on to his next game(s)
Draugnar (0 DX)
28 Dec 13 UTC
I didn't know about his violation of gum oat rules when I posted before. That was clearly wrong and he is lucky he didn't get docked points. And the more I think about the situation, the more I think he should have hunkered down in the minor stalemate line and forced Anlari to get the win with less than 34 or draw.
He and France could have easily held a stalemate line at Barents-Norway-Ska-Den-Baltic-St Petes and forced anlari to take the 18th center. There was just simply no way anlari could conceivably get 34 SC's, which is why I think VB was complaining.
nudge (284 D)
28 Dec 13 UTC
so what is the most SC's ever captured? Is there a theoretical maximum?
I believe anlari already has a game where he got to 34
Alderian (2425 D(S))

It was either mujus or maniac that has previously gotten all 34 centers. I can't remember which, but you can look through their game history.
