Agree that taking risks can be useful, but they often need serious benefits to pay off. Something like moving for a forward position when someone predicts that you'll swing at a center can be tremendously useful for furthering your conquests in the long term. Earlier-than-expected moves to useful leverage spaces like Skagerrak, or convoying onto a non-center space to have a better chance of securing a beachhead (i.e. landing in Picardy instead of Brest, Syria instead of Smyrna), can win you the game in some situations.
On the other hand, something like moving a string of three or four units where one bounce can ruin it all is less likely to work out for you.
