unorthodax alliances
i'm looking to start a game soon in which players are encouraged to form unorthodox alliances. the games will be unranked so that players will not have to worry about gr or points, and be more free to experiment.
two day phases, classic map, unranked, don't care about anon or draw votes, full press, rr 90+, starting around monday the 26th.

Re: unorthodax alliances
I don't think any of the available alliances in Classic are unorthodox. Maybe F/T, but that's the only one I can think of.
Re: unorthodax alliances
Yeah I tried to think of an alliance I haven't tried and can't really think of one
Re: unorthodax alliances
i seem to recall folks saying i/t and/or a/t aren't viable, though that may have been reddit. also, triple alliances are encouraged as well. don't know if you folks were factoring that in.
Re: unorthodax alliances
I/T and A/T have their issues, but they're viable. And that's good, otherwise Turkey would just be forced into a Juggernaut every time..
Haven't considered many triples, no.

Re: unorthodax alliances
At the game I am in now, playing Turkey and Austria is my ally, the game is not finished but it had worked and it probably get us to the end of it.
Interested in the concept, count me in.

I thought I posted earlier. I am definitely interested, when do you plan on starting now? Still tomorrow?

Re: unorthodax alliances
We played a variant of this a year or so ago, in which we asked for a GM to roll assigned arch-villains. We could not win unless our arch-enemy was destroyed. Something similar would work with odd alliances... assign them randomly?

Re: unorthodax alliances
There is a sign up for general new games up above... Feel free to peruse and sign in. But THIS game will be started by the player who suggested it if he gets enough people to play. He will post instructions either here, in this thread, or with a PM to those who signed up.

Re: unorthodax alliances
That sounds awesome... even odder would be World Diplomacy (but that would be in the future.)dargorygel wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 3:24 amWe played a variant of this a year or so ago, in which we asked for a GM to roll assigned arch-villains. I'm in favor of this... what do you think, ziran?
Re: unorthodax alliances
presumably the archenemy would be a neighbour. it wouldn't make much sense for england to draw turkey.

Re: unorthodax alliances
Hey I'm all for shaking things up, but I think clear parameters are helpful. The arch-enemy thing sounds cool. I'd be down to do the game if we did it like that!
Re: unorthodax alliances
@Ziran
Maybe E picking T forces E to an anti-F game, favouring an AI gang up on T. And also forces a Strong ER relationship, at least for a while. But I concur, as the other's archirival picks may make english mission impossible.

Re: unorthodax alliances
Actually it makes for great diplomatic efforts if your enemy is NOT your neighbor.
