If I’d lied about a different role I didn’t have, 1) might have started a CC issue but more importantly would have narrowed his target.

I have a very high opinion of him as a player. Except he and I usually have trouble aligning as town. I think he does things that are unconsidered (read: bad) with mechs; he finds me condescending.

My low opinion of his ability to think through mechs and implications is part of why we've had trouble aligning; I shot him as an unCC'd PR because I thought his claim was impossibly dumb and couldn't be real.

If you reread his stuff, you can see he was trying to take a shot at me all game, and I didn't want to give him any insight to do it. I was hoping he'd not just gamble on my role...but what can you do?

So maybe the argument could be made that in what world would a true mafia do that? "Vote with me because I say so" doesn't exactly hold a lot of weight in a game of secrets and deceit. That perspective makes me maybe see the earnestness you're pointing to. MAYBE....

It suggests to me her real life is overwhelming her normally insightful reading skills (not picking up on yavu's post in context, nor mine).

But then the fact that she assigns VERY scummy!!!!!! assignment to both her errors is what's tickling at my brain.

as you are someone who has experience both with this general setup and with chomps as a player, i have a few questions:

1. is chomps snapping to revealing himself as gravedigger so quickly in character for him? idrc Abt alignment, i just want to know if it's something he would usually do

2. is snapping to revealing oneself as gravedigger generally a good idea in this setup if you get a scum flip d1, as chomps claimed?

3. in your opinion, how likely is a chomps/will pairing this game and why? (you can skip on the why part if you would like)

We don't allow posting at night on any site I've played on before, but as far as revealing anything he knows at his earliest opportunity? It's not what he did last game, but he also didn't wait very long either. IIIRC, he tried a single gambit which didn't immediately work and then spouted out with it shortly afterward before every other player had checked in, so it still could have theoretically yielded results.

In a game with an apprentice, it's not too bad, because generally a village apprentice is going to choose to back up the gravedigger vs other roles. (Last game there was an equivalent role to gravedigger so it would have been a worse play to reveal immediately.) There is always the chance that the apprentice is wolf sided, however, so that's a calculus. Most gravediggers don't take that into account, however. And really, because of the flipless alignment, outing yourself too early is less bad than in other games, typically.

I've never actually played with Will, just watched him play, so--take this for what it's worth? But my guess is that Will claims more conservatively about claiming than Chomps does by quite a bit and would have counseled against an immediate claim if they were in wolfchat together.

Yes. Yavu was so obviously claiming mimi was a mouse and that he thought she was the scummier of the two other mice.

Now...whether one should trust his read...whether one should trust he's town...those are things to discuss.

ah, i forgot about apprentice. that changes my thoughts on this a bit maybe. still think will/chomps is a rather likely pairing
