This setup will be created by random.org list organizer, with co gm and kouncil member dargorygel serving as witness to the roll.

Mafia Day Chat is always on: The mafia can talk at all times, any time, by simply going into discord. The mafia chat does not close during days, or at nights, and is always on.

Phases are 24/24 and players may talk during the night in the game thread.

Participation requirements are unique, please read carefully, you don't have to post, but you do need to vote! If a player habitually fails to post as a strategy they will not be sanctioned.

Mafia may attempt to recruit a town player to join them once per game; this recruitment can be refused. A player may choose to join the mafia, or they can reject this offer.

The PR list is extensive, 3 of the roles from that list will be in play for Town, 1 role from the list will be a Mafia role. There are 18 possible roles that the actual roles could have come from. To avoid any gaming of the setup, the roles were randomly rolled and were not adjusted for balance. Anything is possible.

Day Chat is always enabled for Mafia.

Town vs Mafia, Amount variable based on game size.
If 17+ players: 13 v 4, 14 v 4, 15 v 4

Factional Abilities: (Mafia)
Daychat : Mafia will always have daychat enabled and may communicate any time during the game.

Mind Blast: Mafia may use a mind blast to roleblock a player at night, all actions that player attempts to take will be prevented. They will be told their action failed, not that they were roleblocked.

Tadpole: Mafia may forgo killing once per game and during the night offer to recruit a player from among the town to join the mafia. That player may accept the offer or refuse. If the player accepts the offer of recruitment their wincon will change to be that they must win with mafia. A town PR may elect to change sides, consume the tadpole and join the mafia instead. This ability may only be used up to and during night 4.

Nightkill: The Mafia may kill another player with this action on any night, they may not use a tadpole and also kill on the same night.

Town will have 3 PR in this setup,the Mafia will have 1 PR in this setup.(IF game size is larger than 20 it will be 4 PR and 2 PR for Mafia for a total of six). This can come from any combination of Roles and Subclasses but there would not be any duplicate role and class. Mafia PR could be any role listed below but there will only be 1, and the rest will be goons.

Because at least one of the roles from this list will be mafia,

wincon for Harpers is that the Illithid must be eliminated
wincon for Illithid is that they must eliminate the Harpers.

Vanilla Town: You are a member of the Harpers, you win when the Illithids are eliminated.
Mafia Goon: You are a member of the Illithids, you win when the Harpers are eliminated.

Paladin Roles: 0-3
Oath of the Ancients : Each night you visit a player, protecting them from a kill by you dying instead. If that player is not targeted by a killing action you will survive.
Oath of Devotion: May survive an attack on odd nights, If you are attacked on an odd numbered night you will survive the attack.
Oath of Vengence : all actions targeting a specific player on a particular Night redirect to you.

Possible Role Interactions:
If Vengeance or Ancients try to target latrophobe the action will fail.
If Oath of the Ancients/Vengeance protects someone who was targeted by Necromancer, the Oath of Ancients/Vengeance will flip instead and be blank.


Sorcerer Roles 0-3

Wild Magic: Once per game, may choose to freeze all votes for the day, allowing only people who have not voted to still place a vote. This will be processed as a live action.you must submit this action before the final 30 minutes of a day phase.
Iatrophobe: May not be protected from nightkills, may not be saved, attacks on latrophobe may not be redirected. Tadpole recruitment will fail automatically.
Controlled Chaos: Once per game may kill themself and another person, neither can be saved. you must submit this action before the final 30 minutes of a day phase. This is a day action only.

Role Interactions: nothing can prevent a latrophobe from dying if they are targeted by a killing action at night.
Wild Magic locks all votes, however if Eldritch Knight also activates all existing votes on anyone other than the Eldritch and their target will be unfrozen.



Fighter Roles:0-3
Battle Master : once per game, at midday, choose another player, you and another player will gain a chat together. In that chat you may choose one of you to be safe from elimination that day. This chat will expire once the day concludes.
Eldritch Knight: once per game, at midday, choose another player, and the wagon must be you vs them. If you activate this it will be announced, you must submit this action before the final 30 minutes of a day phase.
Archery: 2 shot day vigilante, you have two shots this game. You may only shoot once per day phase. If you wish to shoot another player please submit the action to the GM. you must submit this action before the final 30 minutes of a day phase.

Role Interactions:

If Eldritch Knight chooses a person who is protected by Battle Master, the target from Eldritch Knight will be a nullified elimination if this happens.


Ranger: 0-3

Gloom Stalker: You watch and observe a player each night of your choosing, you will see anyone who visits
Steel Will: You will be able to survive an attack once per game.
Urban Tracker: You follow a player each night of your choosing, you will see who they visit

Role Interactions:
Steel Will can survive an attack during the day or night once per game.
Gloom Stalker is a watcher, Urban Tracker is a tracker.


Wizard 0-3
Enchantment: At night you choose a player and learn their alignment
Abjurer: At night choose a player, if that player speaks during the night phase you will gain a chat with them. This chat will remain the duration of the game or until either player has died. You may create multiple chats, which will stay open both by day and night, but you may only ever add one person per chat.
Necromancer: 1 shot power word kill. At any time, any phase, once per game you may kill another player and they will be Janitored, and you will learn their role and alignment. They will flip as blank, and no information will be given other than their name.

Cleric 0-3
Knowledge: At night you may speak to the dead players in the graveyard, and they may speak to you as well.
Light: At night you choose a player and learn their alignment
War: you may visit a player and if they have a killing action that is unused you will gain it from them

This setup is called a semi open, where town has 3 PR specialists, and Mafia has 1 Specialist.

The semi open means you can see all possible roles in play but will not know which exact combinations of roles are actually in. The original setup draft had 36 roles, including barbarians, monks, druids, rogues and warlocks. to simplify the review process and make this easier to test the setup was cut in half to 18 roles.

I expect the game to have around 18 players, which would be 14 town v 4 mafia as far as the distribution.

This PR is ineligible to even consider being recruited to switch teams to become mafia. The role acts as a clear but indeed has no powers. the existence of this role in the setup does not exclude the mafia or town get stuck with this role as one of their specialists. Other than being unable to be saved from dying, there are still roles that can be utilized that can for example, watch this role get killed or witness an attempt to recruit it. Without going further into deeper specific strategic advice, the rationale for the roles existence is that its very weak, and could just randomly end up being in the setup on either team.

Setup is still under review and there is still a few adjustments I plan to make, I will always want more roles than players to prevent any attempts to mass hypo claim or break the setup in some way. This is unavoidable and people will always try to do some scheme like that, so I am still waiting on kouncil feedback if they see any cracks or reworks needed. If anything changes it will be well published and documented.

For transparency here is the list where I still had 27 roles possible the list at one time was 36 when warlocks, monks and bards were in it. It just seemed silly to need that large of a setup when only 4-6 of them will even be in play.

This appears to be an extremely negative-utility role. Is that intentional or am I missing some advantage provided by this ultra-weak anti-PR?
This PR is ineligible to even consider being recruited to switch teams to become mafia. The role acts as a clear but indeed has no powers. the existence of this role in the setup does not exclude the mafia or town get stuck with this role as one of their specialists. Other than being unable to be saved from dying, there are still roles that can be utilized that can for example, watch this role get killed or witness an attempt to recruit it. Without going further into deeper specific strategic advice, the rationale for the roles existence is that its very weak, and could just randomly end up being in the setup on either team.
Follow-up question:

If the Mafia try to use the Tadpole on this role, is the Tadpole used up, or can they try again on someone else, on another night?

Also:

If the Tadpole is rejected by a target (i.e. they don't want to be recruited), does the Mafia lose it?

If mafia try to use the tadpole on Iatrophobe it is used up.
If tadpole is rejected by a target it is used up.

The ability to use the tadpole may only happen N1-N4 and may only occur once per game. This ability is used up once the action is utilized, regardless of if it was successful or not.

A player may PM when they have been given a tadpole.

They will get a message stating:

"You have received a Tadpole from the Illithids, you may choose to ##Consume or ##Destroy.

##Consume means you will instantly become a member of the Mafia, and join their day chat.

##Destroy means you will reject their offer and they will be notified you have rejected the tadpole and destroyed it.

If you choose to do nothing, the Tadpole will die at the end of that day phase and will be destroyed. You may choose to Consume this tadpole up to the final 30 minutes of that day phase, otherwise if no action is taken the tadpole will die.
