The positioning of you being like "oh that's gotta be it" and the QM confirming it makes you look dumb lol

Sure, but there were only 5 seconds between the confirmation and the "Has to be her", so it was clearly a cross-post.

Fun round Jamie. I always enjoy having to do the searches and finding out about new people. I’ll have to research modern Iranian-British relations some more

It's an interesting story. She was accused of training dissidents but was really being used for leverage in a wider, very long-running, dispute. She was eventually released when the UK Government agreed to repay £393.8 million for the cost of some British tanks which the pre-revolutionary government of Iran had paid Britain for, which Britain then refused to deliver after the revolution had taken place.Wattsthematter wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 3:24 pmFun round Jamie. On this particular point, just to clarify, as a native Iranian she speaks Persian, which is an Indo-Iranian language. Wikipedia defines the Indo-Iranian languages as a branch of the branch of the Indo-European language family. However I was wrong to correct cdngooner (sorry) since Farsi is actually another word for "Persian", so gooner was also correct.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2024 3:08 pmI am not a language expert but this is not correct based on what Wikipedia says.

The error was entirely mine, sir. Before I had a chance to correct myself, the right answer had, in any case, been guessed.

Great pick! Next thread will be up somewhat soon.
On the language thing, there are other Iranian languages besides Persian and Kurdish spoken in the Middle East, but they're mostly pretty small. Also Greek is spoken in Cyprus, there are a few Armenians in Iran, and there might be a few other random populations.
