Why did you say that Jamie's flip totally blindsided you? It seems weird to me as I didn't get the impression that you have a townread of him on D1.

Re: Mafia XXXIV Game Thread - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Okay, Balki. I'm here to follow up on Tom from last night. Re: "Is Tom likely to be more collected as town or scum?"
Maybe I should reconsider Tom. I think he's strong player and a smart player, from what I've heard. Scum are motivated to create an appearance that they are town. If Tom is a smart player, and Tom is scum, why is Tom's D1 opening play look like a poor stab with little justification (other than he "trusts his gut")? He would know that it looks, if not outright suspect, at least questionable and he probably knows that it would be enough to generate votes on him. Or maybe it's WIFOM, and Tom knows people will eventually think this and has concluded that "Tom is too good to play this poorly as scum" is the perfect cover.
Moving on to the Tom's Scumread Listing Scandal of Page 33...
Brain claims Tom slips on page 52 and points out that Tom changed the order of his reads.
Tom replies (about 5 hours later) that the posts are pretty much the same, and that he "didn't think my post went through" and "rewrote my thoughts - not word for word" and that explains the difference.
Thamrick calls Tom on the fact that his second post seems to reply to a post that BB made in response to Tom's first, and thereby Tom's would have known his first post went through.
Tom claims that he did see Brain's post, which influenced how he responded, but still insists that the two posts "say essentially the same thing" and that he still didn't think that his first post went through.
Thamrick presses, and Tom gets incensed, and Brainbomb presses.
At which point Tom says "there was no order to either list."
Looking over Tom's play in M33 (D1-N1), there's only one comparison for the short list of reads, and he doesn't list them in order.
Tom was catching up a post that was 5 hours old, referencing posts that were 20 pages prior. He was under no real-time pressure. He might have been able to just let it slip by unanswered, since Brain and Thamrick hadn't really followed up on it. Why wouldn't he go back and look at what Brain was referencing, particularly if he was scum and needed to keep his lies straight. An obvious response to Brain's claim is that Tom didn't deliberately order the lists and so they just tumbled out of his head differently after 40 minutes, which Tom doesn't get to until the end of the exchange. If he had led with that, it would have been Brain's assertions about Tom's internal thought processes versus Tom's claims about how he thinks: an easy shouting match to wrap up in 10-15 minutes.
So, is scum-Tom smart enough to play too-stupid-to-kill?
Or is scum-Tom just fucking up?
Or is town-Tom just fucking up?
I think the first is possible.
I think the second is unlikely, for this given set of fuckups.
I think the third is fits occam's razor.

Re: Mafia XXXIV Game Thread - Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
I didn't have a scumread on him either. I felt pretty null about him, townlean if anything, but that's possibly because he helped me out a few times and that made me feel better about him in general.Tom Bombadil wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 3:16 pmrj:

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ:
We're lynching from the following pool today:
Ezio
Tom
Vash
Bozotheclown
CaptainMeme
Don't stop making cases on others if you think it helps, but focus on these players in your re-reads. These players (and others) can still make cases as to why I should remove them from the list. I might be dropping some later to consolidate.
Yours faithfully

I cannot get over how scummy Rjm looks to me, because these are all things I did as newbie scum. Including this bit where he justifies views on known scum by claiming that his feelings were influenced by kindness.

@foxtail - Rjm isn't in the pool of players we're lynching from. Please re-assess. Make a case on RJm if you must, but vote for someone in the lynch pool.
