Re: Twenty Questions - Game 110
I interpret 4 as English not being first language. Does the team agree?

The not-totally-binary nature of the answer suggest it do be that way, yez.
The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.
Re: Twenty Questions - Game 110
We should stop asking that question (and specifying "native English speaker" isn't much better), it just doesn't do much when it applies to so many people outside the anglosphere.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 11:40 amThe not-totally-binary nature of the answer suggest it do be that way, yez.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 110
I dare to disagree. The definite answer to 'a native speaker of English?' has been very helpful. But we are dealing here with the aftermath of a somewhat ambiguous question 'speaking English?', which, to my eye, was unfortunate. The answer 'they know English' can easily be read as sarcasm.Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 12:38 pmWe should stop asking that question (and specifying "native English speaker" isn't much better), it just doesn't do much when it applies to so many people outside the anglosphere.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 11:40 amThe not-totally-binary nature of the answer suggest it do be that way, yez.

How many apolitical live retired chess players can you think of off the top of your head.

#7 never confirmed they were an athlete. #13 shows they were never an athlete. So now #7 tells you they were either a sportsperson (analyst, coach, etc.) or a professional games-person.

I suppose my answer had a bit of a tone because so many non-natives know English.Szpoti wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 1:51 pmI dare to disagree. I will be generous and clarify that it is not their 1st language, since Dousing probably meant to ask that.

Re: Twenty Questions - Game 110
I think Q7 is the culprit of the confusion. We should avoid asking complex questions of this sort since they can generate a positive answer to any positive constituent.
