Ok it's not Fritz Lang then...
The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.

Re: Twenty Questions: Game LXXX
I can say this person was never a national of either Germany or Austria, but the asterisk does carry over (you're in the right general part of the world)

I'm confused by this reply. It sounds like you're actually saying 'yes, he is associated with the German film industry'.VillageIdiot wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 5:27 pmI can say this person was never a national of either Germany or Austria, but the asterisk does carry over (you're in the right general part of the world)

Hint: His association with the movie industry is not what this person is most known for.

Is he primarily known for being involved in theatre (stage plays, musicals, Broadway, etc)?

Re: Twenty Questions: Game LXXX
Someone with direct movie industry connections, but not a director or anything musically related, but someone who is primarily known for theater... weird.
And presumably from France, Switzerland, or that general area. Maybe Italy
Question:
Was he involved in wartime film or propaganda, or anti-war film?

Re: Twenty Questions: Game LXXX
Free guess: Karel Capek?
He was born in Austria but was moved to the Czech Republic when he was 6 months old - there seems to be no sign he was ever an "Austrian" but it's hard to tell (maybe the mysterious asterisk?)
He is best known for the stage play _R.U.R._ in which he first introduced the term "robot" (although he later credited his brother for the actual invention of the word). He has also had other writings turned into movies.

Re: Twenty Questions: Game LXXX
Nothing so far presents the candidate from being in mainstream English-speaking entertainment... (just not a native English speaker)
Was he ever nominated for a Tony Award, Olivier Award, Critics' Circle Theatre Award, Irish Theatre Award, Academy Award (Oscar), BAFTA, or did he win a Nobel Prize?
