Not a mark against you that you understood it differently Rumi, but a “townslip” is when someone makes comments that inadvertently reveal they either mechanically cannot be mafia or that their mindset is irreconcilable with mafia. Usually it’s in the context of expressing an ignorance of mechanics that you couldn’t be ignorant of as mafia, such as a private chat that functions during the day. (I use “ignorant” in a detached sense, not judging you for your lack of knowledge, just calling it what it is. You are doing great.)

Often people fake these as a joke regardless of alignment, but sometimes newer players genuinely townslip. My heuristic after a lot of games with newer players is that I just believe them until they prove to me that they can fake townslips to their advantage, because it’s often very harmful to the newer player’s enjoyment of the game to suspect them of something like that, and because they so rarely do it. I’ve been burned by this before (ask Sabi, they still revel in it), but it usually works out.

In your experience how often is the question asked genuinely and without motive because in my very substantial experience the percentage chance of that being true is somewhere around 15% and I find it's better to never answer

I get asked this question in literally every single game I play outside my home forum I used to answer it. It's a toxic question more times than not and it is one of the only mafia things I refuse to compromise on or answer. I've died for it before I'm fine with dying for it again

it gets asked of every new player here because it establishes a baseline of what can be expected and provides data about the person in a way that everyone else can utilize.

I'm not surprised you were asked when it's an obvious question lmao. if you don't want to compromise on it, that's on you, but it's frankly counterproductive and bullheaded

Player 1 answers the question "I'm new" and is expected as a baseline to make mistakes and they do

Player 2 answers the same way the expectations remain the same they proceed to solve the game day 1 nobody believes their reads they are ignored they lose.

Yes these have both happened. One was in champs.

Player 1 answers "I've played many games" they are expected to contribute and understand mafia principles they do but they play in a strange way nobody understands they are killed for it they are Town.

Player 2 answers the same the expectation is the same they use the basic mafia ideas to easily hide as town and win the game in a clean sweep.

Yes these have both happened.

The question is not beneficial it only serves to form a false idea of how a player should play and can be used easily by wolves to spin a tale.

I don’t disregard it, but I don’t trust it. The fundamental problem for you though is relying on Sabi’s opinion if you by itself makes me want to flip you more on D1 to gain more information on Sabi going forward.

There are far better ways to get actually pertinent information out of me.

But let me ask you why are you more or less likely to believe my answer to that question over any other?

Yea the thing about Rumi is that if you take their personality at face value it seems very hard to believe they could be mafia

I think somebody who openly acknowledges difficulties with social dynamics and cues would be a lot less cavalier about pointing out their self-perceived contradictions. (source, there’s probably more but lol phoneposting)

Fakeable obviously but I think my position on first time players “faking” this is pretty well-established. Take it at face value and there’s no realistic way Rumi is not town. So is that post faked? Cuz I don’t think it is, it seems plenty genuine to me. Early confusion about why townies are questioning you makes a whole lot more sense once you realize that mafia know each other and thus don’t have to question people to learn their identities.

I will stand by my principles. I'm willing to answer questions about me so you can learn except where they are useless in reading me in any way and only serve to fit the narrative you desire to create.

My experience quite literally does not matter in any form. I can be the best new player you've ever seen and find the mafia in one day. I could be the worst veteran ever and single handedly lose the game.
