Wait. Is alot of this process really talking about random things to logic out the victims and the culprits?

I'm used to applicability of facts, evidence, motive, and suspects to figure out whodunit, howdunit, and whydunit. This feels like I have to use my lack of ability to engage in smalltalk x.x
Think of it as a soft science.

I’m told day 1 is built on small talk, tone reading (whatever that is), and supposition. We have no facts at his time. Day 2 is where we use the vote breakdown in day 1. Which given that the day 1 votes aren’t built on any existing analytic data on our voting breakdowns, may not tell us anything other than how to influence people to vote a certain way. (which itself is knowledge)

I suppose if we must “gain” or “lose” something, then we have learned that people can stick to agreements, at the very least when the stakes are perceived to be low in the beginning.
This is a generally correct summary of how Day 1 goes. But if we rig our votes to follow a set arbitrary pattern, what data do you imagine will emerge from that to allow us to conduct a more rational inquiry into Day 2?
To be perfectly honest, though I didn’t want to say it openly. The idea was to determine who wouldn’t play along. Not if someone wouldn’t. Who. Even if I were to convince everyone to do this, I firmly believe one or two people would change their mind at the last minute, or would have only been pretending to agree.

The idea was to identify them.
Ok, you figured someone would object then, and that we wouldn’t actually go through with the plan. Do I understand you right?

What would it reveal about the people who didn’t go through with the plan?

Sorry, let me try that again. You said they would be “scum, or have an ulterior motive.” Why do you think mafia wouldn’t go along with it? And what ulterior motive would non-mafia have not to go along with it?

Newbies are so wonderfully... serious.
Feel like this post makes them likely town though. It's the exact sort of post a newbie trying to solve makes to try to understand the game. One that would be much more likely to made if they had scum chat to turn to.

##UNVOTE for now, but my vote needs a new home

As members of a community more familiar with eachother than I am with you. I assume mafia might know who the better players at identifying them are.

Conersely, an ulterior motive for a townie isn't necessarily logical. Under the assumption townies don't have any way if identifying eachother, they might have seen something socially in how someone acts in day 1 and identify them as mafia.

Jumping to conclusions on why someone breaks the agreement will only lead to problems. So the offending player would be expected to explain why they didn't go along, and more importantly, why they choose the person they voted for.

Also a thing I would want to watch: is who comes to their defense, how quickly, and the attitude of other players towards the choice.
