Ooooo, a whole three months. Wow, I feel soooooo bad for you. That sounds like such a loooong time. I can hardly fathom it.cdngooner wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 11:40 amYou call a desire to finish a tournament within living memory of when it started "a hurry"? These games started THREE MONTHS AGO. I don't think I'm in a hurry. I just believe that an event is best when you can still remember the beginning by the time you get to the end.

Right, and as one of the players in one of the gunboat games, I'm asking you to specify who you're mad at by calculating which team(s) theoretically benefits from delaying which game ending first.
I don't want (unwarranted) slander on my name!

Three months is nothing. Chill out.

Thanks for that. Having the "expand map" button is a nice one to have when I struggle determining which is an army and which is a fleet somewhere!

I'm also in California and will play on the team. Our team will all prefer me to play regular press games.

My guess is that both of these games will be wrapped by end of week.
Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
Am I correct in my understanding that games end with the Fall 1918 turn?

Re: Announcing the 2021 WebDip World Cup!
And look at that, a game has wrapped up, and our standings come a bit clearer. All but one team is now clinched.
* = clinched
*** - On the bubble
e = eliminated
Group A
*Greatest Lakes - 438
*Prosecco - 419.5
*Sons of Vlad - 355.5
***Ain't No SC Not Edible (if fried) - 346.5
e - Democracy Sausages - 256
e - God Save the Team - 217
e - Cheesesteaks - 203.5
Group B
*The Yorkshire Puddings - 460.5
*California - 407.5
*Eastern Canada - 370.5
***Greatest Lakes - 283.5
***Brazil - 236
***"Great Plains' - 231
e - Three-Fifths Australia - 20
The Czech somehow miraculously making the draw puts Southeast USA into 7th place for the Finals and also clinches Eastern Canada's spot (as even if Eastern Canada slips to 4th in Group B, they will have the higher 4th place score). A razor thin margin separates them from Sons of Vlad, secure in 3rd place. Just a few centers difference across a couple of games, or a single 1v1 could've seen them switch spots.
Southeast USA now must watch with baited breath for the finish of the Group B game. Greatest Lakes, Brazil, and Great Plains all remain within striking distance. Great Plains would need a solo to surpass them (a 2-way falling just 2 points shy), Brazil would need a 2-way to get in, and Greatest Lakes could sneak in with a 3-way. We shall see what happens in the coming days, as that match has come to a close!
And now for my obligatory mention of how horrible that 7-way draw was for some teams. Removing just Yigg from that game would have put Sons of Vlad 10 points from 2nd place, and SE USA less than 20 points. Remove Yigg and Merigar (the next most likely to go) and SE USA clinches 2nd place for Group A, and Democracy Sausages is 10 points out from 4th.

This is not me making excuses for a terrible terrible decision.

Thanks for that Goldfinger. I appreciate these summaries of yours. Keeps the flow going and gives context to the results.

While we're waiting for the last game to finish - *Captain of the team who isn't readying, please lean on your player* - the 6 teams that have clinched can start internal discussions on if you'd like to change your game assignments for the Finals.
Tentative start date right now for the Finals is the 12th, but we will see if that gets pushed a few days. Captains please give me a heads up over the weekend if you are swapping subs in, changing FP1 vs FP2 assignments, etc.
