Well, I officially miss the bot. Without going back to look at the player list, here's who has struck a chord with me so far:

Dargo - I was only half joking. I think he's probably scum since as town he would not be so keen on jumping into the game, at least historically.
Sarah - Seems similar to last game, but don't sleep on her being scum
Jamiet - I think he's probably scum. Too calm and level-headed.
Brainbomb - Town for now. Usually I get a firmer read on him later
Vecna - Seems town!Vecna to me so far, but further information needed
xorxes/Bozo - Both seem normal for their town meta
Neph - slight townread for possible townslip. Although now that he's explained it, maybe it was a scumslip? err....

Anyone I didn't mention mention, is null for now.
This, my friends, is the prime example of why we lose so often.

Here, 4/5 reads rest 100% on meta.

We have a weirdly incestual fixation on meta here and nothing regarding content.
Both are important, and I think we rely on both, not just meta. Content is generally easier to fake than meta. With exceptions, of course. Some people's metas are easier to fake than other's. There's also not a lot of meaningful content that we can analyze on D1.

Actually, we lose because people DON'T trust their meta reads.

Besides, I will only use meta for reads for the first few days. Once I have some data to work with I largely only use them for fallback.

Town-slip by Neph? Wouldn't scum know each other's roles and not need signalling?
Why would scum know each other's roles?
I was basing this off the fact that in worcej's previous GM game, the mafia opening post contained the team plus its roles:
https://quicktopic.com/52/H/8uwGYK8gt8Ha2
If presented like that there would be no information about how the votes work.

I find it interesting that Neph described exactly how worcej informed the mafia roles in that game though. And also that you would call what he said first a town-slip. Something I need to ponder more, but one or both of you may be scum here.

It would probably be a benefit to town, but I am not going to bother suggesting it because I have a good idea how that would turn out.
Why it's a good idea to town to massclaim in a closed setup?
Because it forces scum to come up with lies from the start, which they then have to maintain, probably even before they have a chance to coordinate.
Scum are always lying from the start...

Townslip?

Well, the first post seemed like a town-slip to me, but now that he's clarified that exact syntax like you pointed out, it's a lot less towny to me.

What? How can that be a townslip? There's lying and then there's lying. Of course scum have to lie in the sense of pretending to be town, but that's different than having to make up a role they don't have, or having to decide whether they want to reveal whatever role they do have.

It would be silly to tell you that, this early.
Please list everything that is not your plan.
Mental note: if either brainbomb or fox turns out scum, the other is not.

Even though this soft of whatever it is is obvious as fuck, I doubt teammates would be calling it out and ruining whatever stupid shenanigans the other had planned.
I don't understand your reasoning, Vecna. Jamie and Fox are just wanking.

Maybe I'll understand more as I continue up. Am reading backwards.

Donny, tell us of yourself and how you came here and what you know and who you support to lynch and why and how you think that should be done.

This is your first game, right?

I think I saw you reading the thread pretty often in the last game. What thoughts did that give you on this game?
This is some heavy questioning!

so in m41 there was a commuter that gained powers if it earned a certain amount of karma

mafia power thief needed 6 karma to activate

universal backup needed 10 to activate

scum probably has a role that gets powers with karma. chaqa may be giving out large amounts to bury who he is empowering. I think damo and fox used this strat with squiggs in m41
Somewhat.

I think it more likely Chaqa is indicating to his scum team that he needs +1s.

yeah this quoted the wrong post. It was meant to quote the interaction between bb and fox on that page (think it was 1 post earlier or later)

Meta reads are a very important part of Mafia. I just wish I had unlimited time to trudge through previous scenarios and tabulate how our resident islanders behaved when they were our brothers and sisters, and how the same people behaved when they were the enemy within. My memory is shot when it comes to meta reads. So, the wily old hands on this lovely island can keep sharing those gold musings of meta folklore while the amazing PeterBot is in iso of its own.
Meanwhile, I like the ongoing analysis of the Xorxes/Chaqa/Nephthys interaction for a possible first lynch vote.
Now, off to my teaching day...

GM Note:
The repetition was necessary because our generic rules have 2 spots where it discusses +1'ing and I only edited one of those spots. For continuity, I had to make a post about it because you cannot edit your posts in Forum Games.
I see, yes:

GENERAL RULES

9. All players must not +1 other players' posts. However you are greatly encouraged to +1 any GM posts. In fact, I would say this is mandatory but I doubt most of you will read this little bit in here hehe...

ELABORATION

9. You are permitted to click the "+1" on any other player's in-game posts because I (worcej) think it is fun and it will be interesting to see who reads these rules or not. Giving +1s to the GM is actively encouraged because I like karma. Like I said earlier, should be mandatory if you ask me...
When you posted the third 9, I went back and read the second 9, but I missed the first 9.

But now when checking that I run into this:
ROLE ACTIONS:
If you have any actions to take, please PM your action the GMs. Night actions will be processed at the end of the night and can be changed up to that point. Mafia's nightkill and roleblock will be voted on in the mafia chat.
That suggests that Mafia have a factional nightkill and a factional roleblock. Is that correct, or was that a leftover from general rules that may not apply to this game?
